This proves that the sugar daddy song is on the new album. That makes me the think the others are too.

Becky 05-28-2012 01:39 AM

They sounded a lot like Bon Jovi songs to me. I was expecting something different.

Captain_jovi 05-28-2012 02:06 AM

Let's break this down people. Of the list of songs on the site, if you take out what's already been released:

ASCAP:

According To The Gospel Of Love
Best Days Of My Life
Black And Blue
Con Air (instrumental)
Dirty Fingers
Discipline
For All Of The Love Departed
God Is A Girl
Going It Alone
Let's Get Inside
Lucky Ones, The
Oh, Yeah
Our Secret Place
Pain Where There Once Was A Heart
Rear View Mirror
Unprotected
Willing To Try
Trail Of Broken Hearts

Brand New:

Forever Mine
Get On Up
One Night Understanding
Only Love Can Do
Someday
Somewhere Tonight
Trying Not To Get Over You

My gut tells me the the fist list of songs were just acquired from his catalog that was unreleased but still registered in the directory. I'm digging the new songs. Yeah they're Bon Jovi-esque but sung with a more bluesy register which I've been missing in the bands recent stuff. "Don't give a shit about me" is such a killer line.

well if you see my post above I've proved that the sugar daddy song will be on the album.

And Trail of Broken Hearts isn't a new one.

Just saw the link, really happy to hear that. So it's possible these previews aren't even in the song list. I'll move "Trail.."

Captain_jovi 05-28-2012 02:23 AM

4th one is "Our Secret Place".

powernoize 05-28-2012 03:38 AM

i'm guessing Forever Mine is the SITT demo also listed as Maybelline.

Spidey5150 05-28-2012 04:48 AM

Don't like "Sugar Daddy" - i mean, i don't hate it either, but it's not what i'm looking for - the other 3 have me enthused, especially the first track. That ought to be a single...

My theory is it's the lead off single. They play it as the first and the last "example" in this promotional video. Fingers crossed.

RSROCKS 05-28-2012 05:45 AM

Idk about this song with the "sugar daddy" line but obviously someone pissed him off enough for him to write a song about their relationship. I like anger.

Panda 05-28-2012 08:32 AM

I was listening to them, wasn't that excited and then it started getting good 5 or so songs in. And then I realized.... wait, those are from his already released albums. The songs sound too much like Nickelback. Gross.

tico_6 05-28-2012 08:45 AM

They sound good but it is hard to tell with short clips. I think his voice sounds great!!

Can't wait for the album!!

samboraisgodUK 05-28-2012 09:57 AM

The third song anyone else's favourite?

Discipline and According to the gospel of love were released on Desmonds solo record with Richie playing guitar and Desmond singing. Willing to try was also released, I think even twice (one in Richie's version and one version by Bo Bice). I think the God is a girl track was released by some female artist/s, too.

I guess we'll see but if anything, this made me less enthusiastic about a Richie solo than I was before.

Totally agree, sound is very compressed and the guitar don't sound natural at all. Meh sofar - if these are really samples from his new record.

DryCounty 05-28-2012 12:55 PM

Wow these songs sounds amazing!

Ain't too fond about Sugar Daddy but the rest three, WOW! His voice is amazing. Especially no. 3 & 4 is amazing! This made me so excited!

StickToYourGuns45 05-28-2012 01:01 PM

I think they sound pretty good, maybe a bit more poppy than I was expecting, but that 4th track sounds like an epic. Pretty excited by these snippets, can't wait for the album.

I guess we should have expected this when Richie announced to be working with Luke Ebbin. That guy would even make milk taste manufactured. And I don't only mean the guitars, also Richie's voice sounds heavily processed. When I saw him play those acoustics for those charity gigs and when he announced he'd do it with an Indie label, I had really really high hopes of getting something right in between Stranger and Undiscovered Soul. I think I was wrong. If he makes it to Europe on his tour, all will be forgiven though :P

They are. I never had any high hopes for it period when he chose to put Ebbin on the wheel. It turns out that, like always, I am right. Like Becky said, it sounds like Bon Jovi, so it'll just be more songs about a guy trying to avoid his midlife crisis.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Unfortunately I agree with that. I got the impression from the last few albums that some "lazy songwriting" was due to them being in a middling crises; for me it was very clear in this documentary when Jon was standing there saying "....or do I wanne stay here FOREVER?"

But from Jon's last interview I thought he seems much more at peace with himself. But I also thought that the new Richie album will turn out to be a good one. But from listening to those samples I'm starting to doubt that....

nrm123 05-28-2012 05:06 PM

sounds good to me!

TwinFan 05-28-2012 05:17 PM

I think they're pretty good. Yes, they do sound a bit like Bon Jovi songs, but I don't necessarily see that as a horrible thing.

That said, I won't pass much judgment on a few 10 second snippets. I'll wait until I hear the FULL songs before I deem them good or bad.

Same for me...the snippets didn't grab me but I want to hear the songs in full before I say if I like them or not. In the past, I've never connected with Richie's solos but willing to give this one a go!! And I definitely want to see him live!

Haja 05-28-2012 05:28 PM

The snippets.. they're not bad but definitely not what I was expecting. Still, I can't wait to hear the album in full!

Johny 05-28-2012 06:05 PM

Hehe, I'm strong enought not to listen to the snippets so I don't know what you're talking about :)
On the other hand, I need to find the songs from the list you mention as already released. There are some I don't know of.

I have the demo of Discipline but not According to The Gospel Of Love. Both tracks are from Desmond's album which I really like! I also have Willing To Try.
But what are the others? Are those songs written by Richie sung by other artists or did Richie record them?

As far as I know:

Let's Get Inside - This was the theme song to "The Insider" when Pat O'Brien hosted it. You can find it on youtube, a short video of Richie in the studio working on it with Luke Ebbin from...2005ish?

Our Secret Place - Unreleased but it's the 4th snippet in the video.

The rest are unreleased. If they've been covered by someone else I haven't heard them.

Don't you think it's odd that this song was named in the list and the other three supposed new album snippets weren't? Why just that one?

Are the clips gone for anyone else? Just went back to the website and nothing. I haven't been able to get the first song out of my head all morning

Captain_jovi 05-28-2012 07:33 PM

Hm. If it's gone from youtube I'll see if I can upload the Insider video later. I have it on my computer at home.

I did think it's weird one of the songs listed was up, yeah.

EDIT: Previews are still on youtube.

What's the point of making a solo album if it's going to sound like Bon Jovi? kinda defeats the purpose.

Hopefully those snippets aren't indicative of the whole sound of the album.

I kinda worded it wrong. Of course, it shouldn't sound exactly like Bon Jovi. But I don't care if it has Bon Jovi-esque influences in it. It's somewhat expected. Richie has been working in Bon Jovi for 3 decades. The style is in his blood.

interesting that they pulled it down. Has someone gone ape shit at them for airing the clips too soon?

Captain_jovi 05-28-2012 08:43 PM

That's what I'm thinking, yeah. Cripes after a decade of waiting I'm glad they goofed.

weird. it was only three 20 second clips and as you say we've been waiting 10 years. I hope the company Richie hired to promote his album outside the US actually do some proper good and promote this album properly. Train did a good job of promoting their most recent album I thought.
