There are some killer tracks on it. And some really weak songs.

I'd be great to hear Seven Years Gone, Learning How To Fly and You Can Only Get So High live.

I concur. Seven years gone and Every road were at first the only stand out tracks for me..but after repeated listens I think many of the tracks, if performed 'right' are going to rock live! Even Sugar Daddy might be 'fun' live..in the same way that WGIGO is.. *shudder*

What happened to "Our Secret Place"?
From the old snippets back in may that was the song that sounded the best and most natural to me, as if it could have been on "Undiscovered Soul". Obviously it's not on the album, which makes me kinda mad. It's not even a bonus track.

Captain_jovi 09-13-2012 08:06 PM

We never had any indication it was going to be on the record, it was just one of the songs licensed in the deal along with many others. He's got LOT of songs in the can from a decade of false starts on a solo album.

Simon 09-13-2012 10:54 PM

Yeah right. It just sounded so good that it just HAD to be there...

Captain_jovi 09-14-2012 02:58 AM

Personally I didn't care for it at all but that was based on such a short sample. The other three hooked me way faster. I'd really like to hear it in full one day.

tico_6 09-14-2012 05:04 AM

I agree, i thought the other 3 were better from the sample but like anything now that i know it is out there i want to hear it.

Alphavictim 09-14-2012 05:16 AM

Maybe Forgiveness Street was used for the BJ album. I doubt it, but at least it'd make more sense than to just downright cut the best track from the whole album's writing sessions.

Ehhh then we're back to opinion vs fact. I hear you, it was the most artsy/less commercial song on the entire album. I think it's funny that they cut the catchiest (Backseat Driver) and the less sing-alongable tracks. It almost seemed like a pointless move.

bonjovidudes 09-14-2012 01:38 PM

Just received my copy from bol.com and it comes in a small digipack. The booklet has some nice (though very predictable) pics of Richie looking all moody and serious and wearing shades in the studio.

I held off listening to the leaked version and must say I'm pleasantly surprised. I instantly prefer it over Undiscovered Soul. It sounds more "now" and Luke Ebbin has definitely listened very well to Wasting Light by the Foo's, it's more raw and less polished than all Bon Jovi cd's since These days. Not putting Backstreet Driver on the international version is a big letdown however.

Good to hear - the sound is very muddy on the leaked version. I still haven't bought it. I might wait until the Japanese version is on eBay for a decent price.

Yeah, and well rehearsed as well. It sounds a lot better on just an acoustic, it's got way more groove than the album version. I remember thinking the same when he played If God Was A Woman on an acoustic. For some reason his more bluesy stuff loses some of it's hook when he plays it with a band.

Sebastiaan

My god Seb you are such a Yankee :).

I don't know though his voice sounded shot already. A lot of notes where strained pretty badly.

Yep, that's me, Seb the Yank. His voice sounds rough indeed, I doubt it's gonna change much. If we're getting songs from Stranger In This Town they'll either be downtuned or he'll be screaming the words like he's done on the Lost Highway tour.

Sebastiaan

I thought he sounded ok...atleast he played something new, not Every Road. All Jon played when the Circle came out was Born To Follow.

Supersonic 09-14-2012 07:06 PM

He's got his entire band with him I think, there's percussion, bass, slide guitar, organ. It sounds pretty good. :D

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

samboraisgodUK 09-14-2012 07:06 PM

Takin' A Chance on the Wind up first

Really good actually, he did the whole "singing with the guitar solo" thing like on Bad Name on TLFR.

Awesome outro solo right now too, hope someone's recording this.

It sounds fantastic so far, much better than I thought after seeing that acoustic performance a while back.

I'm not sure what you mean as it's not him on slide guitar, he was playing the acoustic. :)

Weathering The Storm is dire though.

Ah, no no, sir, there appears to have been a misunderstanding!

Richie's having fun.

Supersonic 09-14-2012 07:16 PM

Aloha !

It's such a shame that although some of the songs are of decent quality the production on the album ruins them a lot. That said, when listening to this it's also very obvious how much they messed with the vocals in the studio to make them sound the way they do.

Taking a Chance on the Wind
Weathering the Storm
Every Road

samboraisgodUK 09-14-2012 07:18 PM

Every Road is great, love the electric guitar work in it.

Oh and Seb, I know that it's not Richie playing it ;) haha

nrm123 09-14-2012 07:18 PM

Guitar levels too high, Richies voice is lost

Thierry 09-14-2012 07:20 PM

The sound isn't too good. A lot of peaking and electric guitar too much up front.

The solo of Every Road was pretty sloppy.

Yeah, it's good that he hired someone to play the slide stuff now as opposed to thinking he can do it himself. It's not that difficult though, no idea why he never managed to nail it. Wanted played like this breathes new life in the song. :)

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
