On his plate: A Book, A Benefit for Vets, A Boxed Set, A $600k Date

What Bruce has been doing with his downtime:
Quote:

Asbury Park Press: Springsteen is set to release his first book, Outlaw Pete from Simon & Schuster, an "adult picture book" based on his 2009 song with illustrations from artist Frank Caruso. It's out Tuesday, Nov. 4...

"I skipped most of college, becoming a road musician, so I didn't begin reading seriously until 28 or 29...Then it was Flannery O'Connor, James M. Cain, John Cheever, Sherwood Anderson and Jim Thompson, the great noir writer. These authors contributed greatly to the turn my music took around 1978 — '82. They brought out a sense of geography and the dark strain in my writing, broadened my horizons about what might be accomplished with a pop song and are still the cornerstone literally for what I try to accomplish today."

As far as musical releases, the "Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 1 1973-1984" is due November 17 from Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings. It's a boxed set composed of remastered editions of Springsteen's first seven albums from 1973 to 1984 on CD, vinyl and digital formats.

Live, the Boss plays the...Concert for Valor Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C...(with) Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Metallica, John Oliver, Rihanna and more...(It) will be broadcast on HBO and streamed on TheConcertForValor.com and @HBO or @TwitterTV on Twitter.

Asbury Park Press: Bruce Springsteen auctioned off an hour guitar lesson, a ride in the sidecar of his motorcycle and a lasagna dinner at his house — Colts Neck, we presume — for $300,000 Wednesday night in New York City at the Stand Up For Heroes fundraiser for the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

The bid was matched and the $600,000 will go toward helping military service members and their families on the homefront.

The Boss auctioned off a similar lasagna dinner in the past, courtesy of his mom, Adele Springsteen...(We) have little doubt it's a first rate dish...(her) maiden name is Zerilli, after all.

Hello all!

My university life is sadly coming to an end next spring so I'm now in that stage of securing myself jobs and experience to head out into the film industry with to achieve my dream!

So imagine my delight when I secured myself a film job working on a film in London based on the music of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN?

We have most of our budget raised but are needing that final home stretch to help make it the best picture we envision it to me. For this we need the rely on the kindness of strangers and friends to help back our project. There are different tiers of gifts and rewards available depending on how much you fund - it can be a fiver or a grand!

It'd be much appreciated and I hope that, in return, we can give you back a great movie set in a Springsteen-esque world to watch :)

Find out more information, such as the film storyline, budget breakdown, our aims etc here and this is also where you can contribute a few pennies :)

Would also be great if you could share this to friends, family, any communities you may be a part of, etc :)

Thank you!

Oli

Rawstory.com: Fox News...suggested that a song protesting the Vietnam war draft and elitism in Washington was performed by Bruce Springsteen on Veteran’s Day because he was “taking shots at the red, white and blue.” During a Tuesday HBO Concert for Valor on the National Mall, Springsteen, Zac Brown and Dave Grohl performed Creedence Clearwater Revival’s song Fortunate Son...

“Some are going, wait a minute, this is all about the vets, and that particular song was intended to be an anti-war anthem,” host Steve Doocy opined. “Is it really appropriate to be performing it in front of so many vets who volunteered to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan?”

“Yeah, you’re doing this for an audience of veterans, and it’s almost a slap in the face,” co-host Anna Kooiman agreed. “These producers should have known their audience, and known what they were getting with people like Bruce Springsteen.”
Quote:

Rolling Stone.com: John Fogerty has responded to criticism of Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl and Zac Brown's performance of Fortunate Son – the hit single Fogerty wrote while a member of his former band, Creedence Clearwater Revival – at the Concert for Valor earlier this week.

"Fortunate Son is a song I wrote during the Vietnam War over 45 years ago," Fogerty said in a statement. "As an American and a songwriter, I am proud that the song still has resonance. I do believe that its meaning gets misinterpreted and even usurped by various factions wishing to make their own case...

"Years ago, an ultraconservative administration tried to paint anyone who questioned its policies as 'un-American'...That same administration shamefully ignored and mistreated the soldiers returning from Vietnam. As a man who was drafted and served his country during those times, I have ultimate respect for the men and women who protect us today and demand that they receive the respect that they deserve...What a great country we have that a song like this can be performed in a setting like Concert for Valor."
LOL! Cut the comedy, Fox News -- who do think you're kidding? You know perfectly well that the song is about the sons who weren't financially or politically "fortunate" enough to avoid going to Viet Nam. What the song "slaps the face" of is the ultraconservative policies that helps create unfortunate sons then and now! And by the way, what have the conservatives done for the vets lately aside from continuing to create, ignore and mistreat them?

Here's the video:

and here's Bruce and Fogerty doing it back in 2009:

"A never-before-released live recording of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s first show at the Apollo Theater on 03/0912 is now available for purchase at live.brucespringsteen.net. The site launched today featuring The Apollo Theater recording along with high quality live recordings from 30 previously released concerts taped during the 2014 High Hopes Tour and Springsteen’s entire album catalog.
The Apollo Theater recording, mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig, also marks the first in a series of new archival releases that will be made available on live.brucespringsteen.net. Each of the 31 concerts that are live today are available as a 3-CD set with custom artwork or as high-resolution 24-bit downloads, MP3s, or lossless CD-Quality downloads."

Quite the cheap trick from the Springsteen-camp if you ask me. I bought several of the previously released concerts only to find out that they are available in higher quality now. I must say I am dissapointed. It would have been fair if they would allow you to re-download the higher quality version of the show when being the owner of an earlier bought release.

That being said, I really would like to get my hands on those higher quality concerts but that will cost me a fortune :(

I salute you,
TS

Yeah - I was just at the site and I saw the same thing. I have most of the 2014 shows that were sold and I sure as hell don't want to play for them again :(

That's very strange. It doesn't make much sense logistically to bring Bruce and E Street just to play Dublin. On the other hand, it also seems too late to announce the whole summer tour; probably every major festival has already headliners booked.

Obviously, he skipped Europe in 2014, but after 2012 and 2013 I still see a longer break from the best continent for concerts. However, I would love to be wrong on this one.

I'd love that to be true but it's really only just a rumour at the minute and it does seem very out of the blue. Four months to sell 160,00 tickets and no other shows announced?

Please be true!!

Given the source from which this article is taken, I think it is very reliable. It's been all over national media here and appears to be genuine.

I've been out of the bruce loop for a little while now. Are there rumors of a new tour in 2015/2016? New album? I had just assumed these shows would be part of a full tour.

Supposedly 2015 was going to be a rest year for Bruce where he wrote a new album. That's why this seems so odd. With no tour and album to support why do these shows? Unless they're one off and he's doing the promoter a favour in recouping some of the Garth Brooks losses.

I just hope there's some truth in it.
