Picked up Greetings from Asbury Park last week and just sat down to listen to it properly.
Love it. I never expected it to be up to much since it's a debut but it's got some great tunes on it and you can already see where he's going to go with his songwriting up until Born to Run. |
Wrecking Ball has been named the album of the year by Rolling Stone Magazine - http://www.rollingstone.com/music/li...-ball-19691231

I just saw my first Bruce show ever last night, his last show of the leg in Arizona. WOW what a show! I was (and still am) totally blown away.

Scandinavia's going crazy for Bruce (as always)...
Second Oslo show just announced 29 April and THIRD Stockholm show announced for 11 May...just waiting for a second Copenhagen show to be annonced too I guess. |
Why is it that Bruce tends to play the song "Born In The USA" in everywhere but the states? I would have loved to see that live... but he played it in Mexico for some reason.
|
He played it when he was here as well as it was back in the set at that time. Though I have to say that I think he might as well left it out as it was quite a rushed performance. The heavy bass in the beginning seemed hard to mix together with the instruments of the band and they played it like he was in a rush. I'm glad I heard it live as it was on my 'want-to-hear-live'-list but it wasn't very 'Bruce-worthy' and not as special I hoped it would be. I can imagine he got fed up with it and took it out of the set again.
I salute you, TS |
When he played BITUSA in Dublin the crowd went crazy and I thought it sounded brilliant, Max's drum solo fitted in perfectly and the light show topped it off nicely. I suppose it's impact depends on set placement. It was played as an encore opener when I saw it.
I think he doesn't play it in The US because most people think it's a hard line patriot song, when it's anything but. |
I saw BITUSA live and to be honest, it wasn't great. One of the few occasions when I prefer the album version to the live version from Bruce.
I think Tico's Stick is probably right about it too. Bruce has spent decades writing about Vietnam, the failure of the American Dream and in a wider context, the little guy being sold short. I doubt he wants to be singing a song that is about how blind patriotism is stupid / America might not be all it's cracked up to be and your average man in the States gets a raw deal thanks to the powers that be just to see thousands of these people waving flags and screaming "YOO ESS EHH!!!!" back at him. |
Thanks for the info.
Another question. I was at the Vancouver show and everyone seamed to be booing in between songs. What's the significance of that? |
Quote:
|
No, they were definitely booing. I've noticed this in other live videos as well.
|
It isn't booing, it really is 'Bruuuuuuuuce'.
And for BITUSA, it opened the encore here as well and I was pleased to hear it kick in but the bass was too heavy and the song too sloppy. I salute you, TS |
It's definitely Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce
Does my tits in. |
I feel like a lot of people around me didn't understand that. Because I thought it was too, but all I heard was "booooooo"
|
Quote:
|
It's def. Bruuuceeeing.... it's standard...but I was just as confused the first time I heard it....
