Now there you say something! I totally forgot about that possibility. I wish I could afford buying all those recordings but I would be broke quickly. Would be nice to find a group of people who all buy a specific recording and then share it with the rest of the group. That would help keeping the collection complete :-). I will be getting this one! Thanks for reminding me.

I salute you,

That Brisbane show is a must have as far as I'm concerned. What a setlist - and Fade Away. I had never heard that one live until I heard The River show at MSG in 2009. It was worth the wait it was so good.

Glad to see Alabama Shakes is included - I think they could do a great job on Adam Raised a Cain. I really like this band - one of my favorite new bands - they really rock.

Thunderstrucker 03-01-2014 10:44 AM

So, I guess a few of you intend to buy the Brisbane show (myself included) but wouldn't it be better if everyone who intends to buy Brisbane buys a different show instead so that we could share them with eachother and save some money?

I got the MP3-versions of February 11 and 12 and the quality isn't that impressive, yet I would like to buy the FLAC-version of Brisbane.

What do you guys think about it? All who intend to buy, buy a different show and then share amongst the ones who all bought 1 show in FLAC? Might be an idea.

I salute you,
TS

Rumour is that he will be in Europe in July, for example July 6th in Hamburg according to BILD newspaper.

Thunderstrucker 03-02-2014 10:01 AM

I am from this moment on the proud owner of the (FLAC) recording of Brisbane. If anyone fancies a trade I am sure we can work something out :)

I salute you,
TS

A bit of random Bruceness happened this week:

I was at a professional development course for work on Thursday working with software to aid children with limited or no verbal communication. It was US based software so at one point we were being shown how to create our own "buttons" that would be more relevant to the kids we teach.

We'd to make a button for Irn-Bru. The picture gallery on this software does a sort of auto find / correct thing and when you typed in Bru a little cartoon picture of Bruce popped up :D

Later that night my band was doing a rehearsal for a gig we have coming up on a bus (as in an actual moving bus as it does its route :D ) anyways we're missing a bunch of key members (we might be forced to go out as only a 15 piece :/ :D yes we are pretty ridiculous) so I was put forward to sing for the 1st time. The tune is Weight Ghost and I thought I did a not bad take on it. Later on in the Facebook one of the girls in the band posted saying I sang very Bruce like.

Bit better than the recording engineer who told me I sounded like Tom Petty years ago.

p.s.
I see the USA has gotten the most standard shows of the High Hopes tour so far. Did they play on festivals in Dallas and Cincinnati? That would explain the setlists a bit.

Dallas was a festival, Cincinnati was a proper show.

Dallas was fun to watch. The audience seemed very young which Bruce played off -

Now this is how you give die hard fans a 'holy shit' moment!
You start your concert with a song you only played live once before on your solo tour but this time with the full band. Goosebumps right from the start.

Springsteen sang Staying Alive at The Mohegan Sun 2 days ago. I had heard that he had sung it previously but frankly, I didn't pay much attention. My dislike of the Bee Gees is well known. However, shame on me for ignoring a wonderful song because I couldn't stand the production or the disco singers. I don't think they did the song any favors. After hearing Bruce sing it though, I realized that this is a song with guts and grit. It's exactly the sort of song that Bruce would sing and boy did he sing it. I missed out on a good song because honestly, I never even listened to it enough to hear the words. Now I have and wow.

But I still won't listen to the Bee Gees sing it - they pulled all the grit out of it.

Words can't describe - especially the emotion at the end last night. I have seen several tour ends but this one was very emotional. I am so happy that I was able to be there.

As usual I am going broke buying the soundboard recordings.

I take it you guys didn't record these but could enjoy the shows 200%??

Interesting.

I'm a huge Bruce fan but thought Barry Gibb did more justice to Bruce's song than Bruce did to his.

I can't listen to Bruce's Stayin' Alive. It grates.

Just had a chance to listen to Bruce's recent professional bootlegs, in particular, Hershey and Uncasville, and was really dissapointed by the quality of this. A couple of months ago I listened to one of Australian shows (Perth I think) and the sound was just as bad there. So it's no coincidence. Max's drums sound especially bad.

What happened to his mixing? It used be so good. His NYC and Hyde Park DVDs both sound great to my years (Barcelona not so much) and his most recent release of Born In The USA live from London also sounded great. And yet this tour the sound is so terrible. Max has always been one of my favorite drummers and if I heard him for the first time in these 2014 tour recordings, he would be one my least favorite ones.

Any die-hard Bruce fan is willing to explain me what happened? It would be one thing if it was some amateur bootleg, but these are soundboard recordings that Bruce is selling as live albums (for 10-12 euros I think), so I don't think it's acceptable.

Thunderstrucker 07-09-2014 10:12 AM

I am quite die-hard Springsteen fan but I cannot explain it to you, I even agree with you. The quality is quite bad for 80% of the recordings, 10% is good and 10% sounds fine. I think that the answer lays in the fact that they promise it takes 3-4 days for a show to come online. I doubt you can mix it properly in that time considering the plays more shows in 3-4 days then 1 so the mixing will get behind. Cash over quality it seems which is a poor decision. Overpriced soundboard recordings is what they are so far. I bought a few as I just wanted to have some of the live recordings of a few songs. It's more something to add to the collection then to really wanting it.

I salute you,
TS

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately, I think the issue is far bigger than the rushed release. Robbie Williams is actually doing the same thing - selling recordings of each show for the past few tours. I listened to a recent one as well and it sounded great! And he's actually releasing them as CDs in the venue just minutes after the show ends. So if Bruce is actually putting them a few days later, there's no excuse for such quality. It's just someone in 'the truck' is not doing his/her job well at all.

Seriously, these recordings make our Obie sound like a master :(

Jim Bon Jovi 07-28-2014 01:20 PM

So I've been at the Wickerman festival over the weekend and after having to suffer Kt Tunstall murdering something off of Nebraska and Amy McDonald doing likewise with Dancing in the Dark I joked to my girlfriend that we should put bets on how many Bruce tunes were ruined this year.

About an hour into Shed Seven's set they announced they were going to cover Born to Run and they absolutely knocked it out of the park. It was joyus, life affirming stuff.

Anyhoo I can't find any uploads of it from the gig but I did find footage of them soundchecking it at a venue mid week that I thought you might dig:

What you say is true about Robbie. I own the recording of a Robbie Williams concert I attended. The quality indeed is suberb but, and this is an important but, the CD costs like 20 pounds/25 euros/over 30 dollars. I was with a group of 6 so we all payed our share but it is heavily overpriced. It's twice as expensive as Springsteens recordings though Robbies comes in a nice digipack (without tracklist), but still. It comes down to value for money and although I agree with that Springsteens recordings are overpriced for the quality they come in, the recordings of Robbie concerts are overpriced even more.

I salute you,
TS
