Haha it's funny how our opinions seem to differ a lot. I think Radio Nowhere is the least good song on the album ;)

I salute you,
TS

steel_horse75 03-08-2012 10:24 AM

To be fair Ive only heard Radio Nowhere from the album!

Its catchy.........unlike anything on WB

You are saying that an album you have owned for 5 mins is as good as BITUSA.
I think thats a strange comparrison - the albums are over 20 years apart!

I didn't say it was as good as BITUSA, I said it was tied (in my mind) with The Rising as his best since BITUSA.

I cant see any of the new Bruce album going down well live. Its too quiet and slow.

Considering two of them have been concert staples for nearly a decade, and another was one last tour, I think that's an odd statement. Beyond that, I think Shackled and Drawn and Death To My Hometown are going to sound spectacular live with the ESB. A few of the others I have a "wait and see" approach as far as live.

Thunderstrucker 03-08-2012 02:20 PM

I think Death To My Hometown will be one party on stage.

I salute you,
TS

Couldn't agree more!

Jim Bon Jovi 03-08-2012 10:23 PM

Finally got it today.

Giving it a quick spin while I potter around. Was going to listen to it while working out but it's a bit slow so I won't have a proper review until the weekend.

So far the songs are sounding good.

I LOVE the acoustic drum arrangements on it. Some really great room sounds going on.

Panda 03-09-2012 06:20 AM

Like Working ON A Dream, I hate how the special edition is a dreadful, huge, odd size. too small to fit nicely with DVDs and too big to fit in nicely with CDs. I opted to by the regular edition because I didn't want some giant CD case sticking out like a soar thumb from the rest.

Listening to it a first time now.

Thunderstrucker 03-09-2012 08:24 AM

Yes. I dont get it either why they choose for this weird size. Af if its gonna be the new standard for CD-casing. Indeed a dreadful size.

I salute you,
TS

Crushgen24/88 03-09-2012 11:59 AM

I think the bigger sizes on the Special Editions is supposed to replicate vinyl packaging, and physically differentiate it from the normal version. It doesn't bother me much, since they fit fine in the CD shelving unit I use, but I can see why it would be really annoying.

Thunderstrucker 03-10-2012 08:27 AM

Setlist Bruce Apollo:

We Take Care Of Our Own
Wrecking Ball
Badlands
Death to My Hometown
My City of Ruins
The E Street Shuffle
Jack of All Trades
Shackled and Drawn
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
The Promised Land
Mansion on the Hill (Acoustic)
The Way You Do The Things You Do (Smokey Robinson Cover)
634-5789 (Wilson Pickett cover)
The Rising
We Are Alive
Thunder Road
Rocky Ground (With Michelle Moore)
Encore:
Land of Hope and Dreams
Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
Hold on I'm Coming (Sam & Dave cover)

Although its 'only' 20 songs the set looks good to me. You can see Death To My Hometown on brucespringsteen.net
I found it a bit to slow to really work/sparkle but then again, they are only just warming up!

I salute you,
TS

b-b-b-but where's born to run?

Jim Bon Jovi 03-10-2012 03:19 PM

I've still not been able to really sit down and listen to it properly but on the few background listens I've had, I REALLY like it.

It's not the type of album I was expecting, it's a lot more folky but that's not a bad thing and I can see a couple of the tunes really working well live.

Going to crack open the single malt and listen to it with a decent pair of cans later on because it should sound great. I might even borrow my brothers in-ear monitors to listen to it. I'm not quite sure how it happens but the track seperation is so good with them that it can actually sound like you're standing in the middle of the studio while everythign is played around you.

Some nice pics of Bruce posted by Maureen Van Zandt on her twitter account

i hope I'm not the only one who tears up a little bit on the sax solo to LOHAD.

Matthes 03-10-2012 07:05 PM

I like the new album a lot.

I admire Bruce for the courage to mix some traditional music with modern elements. This record isn't going the safe way and it shows that Bruce has to prove something, writes about important topics and that his fire is still burning. The whole record is one big survey and in its entirely it works really well.

Sambo-Chris 03-10-2012 07:50 PM

Tonight on CNBC Europe Jimmy FAllon Show with Bruce at 9 pm CET (8 pm GMT). Two series in a row, don't know on which one he will be though.

Crushgen24/88 03-10-2012 09:36 PM

Tenth Avenue from last night.

ticos_stick 03-10-2012 09:59 PM

last nights show is up on Jungleland. I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Crushgen24/88 03-11-2012 09:58 AM

To break the new album/your talk for a moment, I've been listening to the Tracks box set a lot recently, and man the second disc is phenomenal. If this was a standalone Bruce record, it would easily be in my Top 10.

ticos_stick 03-11-2012 09:58 PM

"Are we missing anybody!? are we missing anybody!? are we missing anybody?!"

"If we're here and you are here they are here"

Powerful stuff.

ticos_stick 03-11-2012 10:05 PM

Wrecking Ball is No.1 in the UK and Ireland :)

Jim Bon Jovi 03-11-2012 10:34 PM

Yeah I just saw that.

I'm really surprised, I'd heard on the radio earlier int he week that the military wives choir had the fastest selling album in years.

My sister is due to give birth at any minute now, I'm going to suggest she ditches William and calls the wean Bruce :D

Jim Bon Jovi 03-11-2012 11:01 PM

How does Jungleland work?

Once you sign up can you just download the torrents or is there something else you need to get in order to listen to the tunes?

Yup. half way through it and I'm mega stoked for London now.

There's some monster playing from Max.

ticos_stick 03-12-2012 06:06 PM

Mighty Max only gets better.

Crushgen24/88 03-13-2012 12:05 AM

I haven't ranked the albums but Magic in the #10 spot? I think it's one of his best albums - though it has some mighty competition. And yes - I think the Promise counts too.

ticos_stick 03-13-2012 09:23 PM

Magic would easily be in my top 5.

Personally, I think Magic losses a lot of steam in the second half.

The trio "Last to die", "Long walk home" and "Devils Arcade" is fantastic. The record finishs on a damn high level.

Mongoose 03-13-2012 11:05 PM

It's good to hear the Horns back, I loved Tunnel of Love/Tunnel of Love tour because of all the 'big' instrumentals (Ice will be out with a knife looking for me)...

I like the album, it's a real mix of previous albums..a bit of Tunnel of Love, a bit of Devils & Dust maybe, a bit of The Rising, very 'folky'; the real Bruce in a way. I suspect he's very proud of it. Glad the Big Man is on there too :(

Agreed. I am unapologetic... Magic IS my favorite Boss album followed closely by Born in the USA.

tigrs99 03-14-2012 11:42 AM

Bruce Springsteen Wrecking Ball was no 1
last week in US pushing Adele to no 2
