Top 100 guitarists according to Rolling Stone

http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/amplifi...181042395.html

Richie's not even on the list. Give me a friggin' break.

I love 1 person's comment on Keith Richards making the list - "One of the best guitar players of all time? He's not even the best guitar player in the Rolling Stones."

Of course The Edge is in the top 50.

Richie Sambora, Kirk Hammet, Noel Gallagher, Matthew Sweet, Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt????

Kirk Hammet doesn't even deserve to be in the top 10 000.

I think The Edge is great, but he is in no way better than Richie. That said, Rolling Stone has never been too crazy about Bon Jovi, while they think that U2 is sent from heaven.

I found it interesting you included Matthew Sweet. I know maybe two songs by him but always considered him a really strong pop/rock song writer. Is he worth checking out further?

I find him to be a great guitar player. It's obviously all a matter of taste.

To not include Richie, is just a joke. He might not be quite as versatile as he once was, but who the hell is? He could kick the crap out of half those guys in the 80's and 90's.

Come on. Granted, top 100 is debatable, but he's pretty much spot-on live. He's certainly better than James Hetfield (who made the list.)

James made the list probably based on creativeness (is that a word?) since he does (or did?) write metallica's riffs. Most of Hammets solos are basically the same, but I agree with you on that, he does deserve to be there and in terms of live performance and technical ability he takes it, as does Richie (Richie has the creative advantage as well him not being on this list is stupid and criminal)...

Doesn't count, but I do believe Richie is the only one on that list (or in his case, not on that list) to have ever co-written a #1 song, besides EVH (Jump), and Richie did it 4 times.

This. I have always been a big u2 fan and Edge is fantastic at what he does. Creating sounds the way he does, and that unique tone that only he has, but Richie is fundamentally a better guitarist, technique wise and also when it comes to pure guitar creativity. Of course Richie isnt at the top of his game right now, but who the hell is! Lol.
I too think that Rolling Stone not actually liking Jovi and never really did, plays a part.
