I would add Born To Be My Baby, Lay Your Hands On Me and Living in Sin to the 80's list. They were all top 10 hits.

I would not count Something For The Pain as a hit, at least not in the States. It tanked. As did One Wild Night.

Def Leppard on the other hand haven't had a hit since When Love and Hate Collide. They've barely had a new song on the radio since that time.

I heard 'Now' quite a bit back when X was released, but I have no idea how the song charted if at all. I think the album fell flat on its face though :?

I heard Now a couple of times on 1 station, but don't believe it charted. To give them credit, X was a pretty sold album. Now was great, and Torn To Shreds was the best thing they've done in 15 years.

In the end, it's all about who people go see live, and Bon Jovi takes the cake hands down. Record sales mean absolutely nothing anymore.

Bon Jovi have the perfect image and sound for rock star.

Bon Jovi has his own label, much better defined than Def Leppard. This is not a quirk of fate that Bon Jovi are better known and recognized. Still a modern sound.
.

Do we have to refer to Bon Jovi as "him" all the time? I know a lot of the band's success is from his vocals, but hits such as "Wanted Dead or Alive" depend just as much on the rest of the band.

Anyway, Bon Jovi certainly have a wider appeal and a broader fan base than Def Leppard, since my big problem with Def Leppard is that their songs are all pretty harsh and sometimes ugly, but Bon Jovi are really a lot more diverse.

I can't name any Def Leppard song as being really "sensitive", not even "Animal", but there are countless ones that fulfill that criteria with Bon Jovi.

I think we're leaving off one key reason why Def Leppard isn't as Universal - Can anyone understand what the hell Joe is saying in half their songs? Think about it, their biggest hit, the majority of people can only make out half the lyrics.

Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad
Where Does Love Go When It Dies
To Be Alive

I'm gonna stop there because this post doesn't really make sense in more ways than one.

well - you can see it right there, it's all in that clip, all that's gone wrong with the Leps since 1992. Always one step behind. That, and wasting the talent of Vivian Campbell

From the Slang -era, one of my all time favourite Leppard songs. Written by Phil alone if I'm right.

Ice

Actually, yes I do. It's on my import version that also has a bonus live acoustic disc. "Just like it was meant to be." Love it! I'm looking forward to hearing what else came out of those sessions with the deluxe set.
