Your reaction to a very very loved song being played
This is a video made by a friend of mine during the Barcelona concert, when Jon announced I believe. Well, I really really love this song, and I had no hope at all of hearing it live, so it was a huge, unexpected shock for me. You can clearly hear it on the video. The scream at 0:39 it's not mine BTW, thank God !
But I think it would be nice to know how you reacted to a song you really really wanted to hear being played. And BTW, this video captured how crazy the crowd went for this song ! Regards Eduardo |
I had the same thing happen to me with the same song!
Sydney, night 3... I Believe was my #1 request (I even made a banner requesting it haha). Anyway, the song hadnt even been played once yet on the tour, so my hopes werent high at all. I had heard that the band played some rare tracks during sound check but I Believe wasnt in it so I definitely wasnt expecting it. So the 3rd song finishes and there is a quick break and so I get my camera ready to start recording the song in case its a godo track. You can hear me say on the video "Aw I hope it will be I Believe" .... literally 2 seconds later that opening guitar shreds in and im like "o.m.g...". I dont even yell or anything Im in such shock haha. Was the highlight of my night and the highlight of the tour - I went to three shows. Just my luck as well that I forgot to recharge my camera so the bloody thing died just after the first chorus haha. So I have half the song taped on my camera and the other half on my sisters camera. |
These Days, Dublin night 1. I had predicted that song would get played for months before the show but when Jon announced it my jaw just dropped and I stayed like that for quite a bit.
I had that feeling many other times during the Dublin shows :p EDIT: Right. Can't forget to mention getting Dry County in Las Vegas 2011. That was my first time hearing it and it was amazing, save for the drunk people next to us who tried to steal my camera... |
Always @ Soldier Field (night 1) on the Circle tour. It took me 10 shows over ten years and a trip to Chicago to get Always, but it was worth every penny. Most of those years it was pretty rare, but by that time I knew it wasn't totally out of the question. I am biased, but I think it is one of the better performances post 96.
I had a similar reaction that very night when they went into Sympathy For the Devil in KTF. It was something I'd been hoping for since the first time I saw it on the OWN tour. It wasn't as powerful as it was in 2001, but still good. This medley performed in 2001 is to date my favorite BJ moment I've witnessed. |

One of my fondest memories is when they played Dry County at Giants Stadium in 2006. Matt and I heard the opening notes, looked at each other, grabbed each other's hands, started jumping up and down and yelled "DRY COUNTY!" We were the only people in our section who had a clue what the song was and I'm sure they thought we were nuts. That's the only time I've ever heard that song live when I was with someone who got what it meant. If I never hear it live again, I'll be fine with it because that one moment with Matt couldn't be topped anyway.

Hearing 'Diamond Ring' was pretty special. I remember when I was first getting into Bon Jovi, I didn't think it would be a particularly cool song to love but from the first time hearing it I just loved it. I thought 'hearing this live would be unbelievable, but there's no chance it'd ever happen'. I wasn't someone who checked the setlists back then so didn't know it could happen. It was special with Jon and Richie sharing a mic. I just stood there thinking that this is what it's all about. It then led to 'Always' which topped it all off.

LIE TO ME @ Udine, Italy.
It was one of the three rare songs I wanted to hear, but I was sure they were not going to play. The other two were Letting You Go and This Ain't A Love Song. When Jon and Richie were trying to remember the song in front of Tico I couldn't understand what they were doing, but some other guys in the Diamond understood it was Lie To Me. So when Jon went to the microphone and said "I don't know if you remember at all the words, let's try a verse" I was thinking they were going to play Stick To Your Guns. Don't know why. Then Jon said "It's called Lie To Me". I wanted to cry and I started to shout "WOOO.. LIE TO ME... I'M DYING, I'M DYING..IT'S NOT TRUE, IT'S NOT TRUEEE" and then I sang along the song, the chorus... unbelievable! I didn't die. But it took some days to me to realize I heard THAT song on my first Bon Jovi concert! |
Hey God - Dublin #2
After Damned this These Days fan boy was content but then boom, they played Hey God. Thankfully I brought spare underwear. |

These Days in Giants Stadium in 2006 - at that time I never expected that song at that venue. And that was the night after the first Dry County In 10 years - the same night that Becky is referring to. Those were 2 magical nights in Giants Stadium. |
