Interesting Interview From '90
I stumbled across this interview from 1990. Just some things I observed that I wanted to point out. It's a great interview, over a 1/2 hour. I guess it’s just different from the same old question / answers we’ve been hearing for years. 1. The entire Blaze album, from writing it to the finished master, only took 2-1/2 months. 5:10 2. Funny Part - No Bon Jovi band members called Jon to congratulate him on the #1 success of Blaze.... He ran into Tico and he congratulated him and Richie sort of did. But Jon says that they wanted to pretend it was the album that never was. As far as Tico was concerned, that wasn't a drummer who played on Blaze. 12:25 3. Jon was originally supposed to be involved with Richie's first solo album Stranger but opted out due to time and Jon also wanted Richie to have his own identify with the album 18:01 4. There was a mini Blaze tour (4 to 5 charity shows) that might have happened. All the musicians that contributed to the album up to Jeff Beck confronted Jon about wanting to play the songs live. (Elton was the only one who didn't confronted Jon) 18:35 5. Jon did a 1 month tour with South Side Johnny. – I never knew that took place. I always thought the footage was from Jon just making an appearance at a SSJ show 6. Jon has a “Nice Guy” reputation. 21:15 7. 7800 was Jons attempt to follow the Hollywood Glam scene. (Motley, Ratt, Etc) 21:24 8. Really enjoy what Jon said about him not being a prisoner of Rock and Roll and it also adds some clarity as to why Jon controls most of the bands activity. Jon claims he’s been robbed (not specific to who and how) but Polygram bailed him out . 25:03 9. The sudden snap of annoyance from Jon 26:42. 11. Who is the 2nd artist Jon is referring to? My guess is Billy Falcon 28:28 12. What a different Jon from today. This is the Jon I grew up with. This laid back, semi humbling, semi shy guy. I'd love to get my hands on those Blaze demos. I'd take that over a new album. I wonder if any outtakes exist. |
Great find, will watch it later.
2 short points. I recently discovered a radio interview from Jon in Montreal in the November of 1991 which also was one of the most interesting ones I heard from him. Must have been his best period with regards to giving interviews. To 8: I haven't heard what he talks about yet but the band had it's whole equipment stolen from their rehearsal cellar while being on the TV Show "American Bandstand" in 1984 and Polygram bailed them out by buying a whole new set of instruments for the band. |

That tour with SSJ is when Jon and Bobby became such good friends. They were roommates. You can thank that for Bobby still being around today.

He gave Richie "Rosie" which Jon did the original demo for and I'm sure at least co-wrote. Jon also showed up at one of Richie's concerts but stole the show so he decided not to do it again. It wasn't all bad Quote:
(off topic question to anyone - Are there any good audios from those early shows? '90 '91) Quote:

Billy and Aldo's records both failed commercially so it ended there. Quote:
But look at this interview with Julie Brown. This is a fun side of Jon that doesn't exist today. Politician Jon would be disgusted with this. I mean, he is down right dirty with her. I don't get the whole "gray summer" thing. He must have hid it very well. |
thats the Jon I grew up with and had that JBJ posters on my wall.
Love the 84-91 era so damn much! |

Oh, and the interview Rdkopper posted, I discovered that one a few weeks back and loved it, as well. I'm at a point where I can't even bother with most of the post-2000 interviews with Jon...but going back in time is fascinating. And somewhat emotional, too, I have to admit... |
