Actually most people I know think Jovi are alright, a few think they blow, but none of them would likely buy an album. But here's the test - stick any U2 hit on and stick any Jovi hit on and see which one they sing along too. I bet the majority will be the Jovi song.

U2 always appealed to the serious critics - comes with the background of where they come from - they were always going to get more credibility even when they release dumb stuff like that song about the boots.

I think one of the things I like about Because We Can is it isn't trying to be cool...or fakely serious or so many of the other things Bon Jovi have tried to be at times.

Strip away the poppy production and it's unashamedly a big, loud Bon Jovi song.

Jon is not in the same league as Bono.

I dunno, Bono has written some cringe worthy garbage in his time.

Really? "I'm a mole digging in a hole?"

I think any lyric Jon has written is better than that.

Another article saying how it's shot to number 1

This is just a single and not the album!

All this means is that Bon Jovi has a shit load of fans and has nothing to do with the song itself. It could take 3 to 6 months before this song hits heavy rotation and that's when we'll find out if it's successful or not!

"The sweat on this old collar, that's my phd."

Jon has written lines miles worse than that one from Bono.

Different league lyrics-wise. Just deal with it.

Umm nope. I know plenty of people who are casual u2 fans as young adults, but I don't know anyone as young adults that like bon jovi

Umm well I'm not disagreeing with that. I'm sure that is the case. Overall U2 is given more respect, and probably deservedly do. Then again I know plenty of music fans who have correctly observed that the more recent U2 albums are awful.

Well I thought how to dismantle an atomic bomb is one of their best albums to date, and that's their second last album. I also really like all that you can't leave behind. which is the album previous.

There have been some true shitters on some of their recent albums, but Bon Jovi has those, too. Moment of Surrender and Breathe from their 2009 album are a couple of their best songs, even when put up with their great back catalog.

U2 on their day are pretty unstoppable. They're a pretty mediocre bunch of musicians but they wrote classic poignant songs about political struggle and pushed themselves beyond a place they ever should have got.

They have done some awful stuff but they haven't quite gone down the Bon Jovi route of pumping out albums and tours "because they can"
