thanks for the video links...jon actually doesn't sound too bad

My Review
Having been to now 15 shows, this was by far the worst performance I've ever seen...The band sounded great, the stage set up, and lights, were top notch as always, but to me it was Jon being totally lazy the whole night. I kept waiting for him to move around even a little. Dissapointing big time for his lack of energy the whole show. I went with a Jovi first timer and she said to me "why isn't he jumping around at all like the youtube videos you showed me from past shows?" I didn't have an answer, and after talking up the band so much to her I felt like a dumbass because they didn't live up to it at all.
I thought the opening was actually good with Bad Name, but them the life was sucked out of the show with back to back LH and WLOL, which at the beginning of Whole Lotta Leavin' Bobby one note Bandiera came in late with the intro. Jon looked pissed after pointing to Bobby to start and getting nothing. The new stuff I thought went over well, but I think Jon should REALLY drop the guitar for at least Because We Can and What About Now. Only adds to the lifeless crowd that most of which doens't know the songs. Water Made Me and Army of One sounded great, especially liked the end of Water with Jon and Richie sharing the mic...Had to laugh after Army when Jon said to the crowd "Here's one everybody knows" before launching into We Weren't born To follow with the cheesy keyboard part sounding way too loud by David Rashbaum. It was at this point I left to go use the bathroom, and return to be still laughing at Work for Working Man. I actually like The More Things Change, but except for the part at the end where Jon was ripping on Justin Beiber and Madonna and Lady Gaga, I thought it sounded like shiat! Other observations... I have never noticed at any show Richie having lyrics attached to the bottom of his mic stand. I'm guessing they were for the new songs but I didnt' like it, if you looked up at the video screens while he was shredding away it blocks the view of his playing. You can see this in any Youtube clip, really WEIRD to see. Great moment from Richie I thought was during I'll Be There For You his guitar had no sound at first nice exchange on the much under used catwalk between the two, Jon asked if he was ready to which richie answered in his silly voice "I ready", then jon asking you sure? and Richie saying "fo' sho". Did anyone else notice Jon wearing a balance bracelet? Looked like either a magnetic or ionic power bracelet. Perhaps the old man has some sort of med issue that is keeping him from moving around as much on this tour... Encore rocked although like many others those songs belong in the main set. All in all I don't know if I could ever say it was a bad show, just a let down in comparisons to all the other shows I've seen. I've seen better, more effort, more passion, in every other show I've seen. The only time I've ever really been let down by the band and it was a sad day for me. |
Thought the show was much better than Wash DC! yes, Jon could move around more. He even stands at the mic for songs he isn't playing the guitar, like Bad Name and It's my Life. It was nice to see the band making setlist changes. Jon and Richie seem to be getting along well and were joking around onstage.
I'm having second thoughts about going to the Charlotte show. Jon REALLY needs to at least walk around the stage... |
