It's some sort of effects. Richie has a custom effects pedal that is used to control effects for different songs he just hits one button and all the effects he needs come on so I guess there was no room to add extra buttons being custom built so they gave him another pedal. I noticed Dave stomping on a pedal in keep the faith and it was either a coincidence or it was set up to the lighting rig and everytime he hit a certain pedal a bug flash of lights would go off watch the faith video from the other night and concentrate on him

I think he's triggering samples with the pedal.

But if you don`t have more room in that pedal, you just put another pedalboard ...Also, I didn´t see other guitar players of any band using that kind of thing.
On the 2nd picture taken by Terri, Richie it´s looking at that "thing", maybe it has the lyric that, just like someday said over here.

I finally went through my photos from Wednesday night. I didn't get much, because the lighting is completely different than on past tours. I was in the first full section of seats on Richie's side - 6 rows up. Essentially, I was even with the pit but 6 rows above the floor. This would have been a good seat in the past, but as soon as the show started, I had very bright white lights in my eyes. There are spots on both sides of the stage that are pointed toward the stage at an angle. Much of the time they're white - very much like having a camera flash in your eyes. They also turn blue and red. Overall, the lighting is much darker than in the past, so when those spots weren't blinding me to the point of not seeing the band, then the lights were so low that they still weren't very visible. I've always been impressed with Jovi's lighting in comparison with other bands I've seen in the same venues, but not this time. Here are some examples of what it was like:

Sorry about all the pics at strange angles. I started doing it in an attempt to avoid the lights, but then I got kind of carried away with it. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but not so much.

Terri, great job under difficult conditions. Your fave pic is really awesome! Also love the one of JBJ and Richie during IBTFY, with all the red light in the background. Looks cool!
