a LOT of people are complaining about Jon's lack of movement

It's everywhere - comments on online newspaper's reviews, youtube, forums..
people claim they feel ripped off about paying 300 dollars for an old lazy man who doesn't want to move.
do any of you feel like Jon would be better off doing his solo, low-key concerts ? I mean, maybe that's what the man would like to do. it doesn't matter if his peers are much older and much more energetic than him. that argument is old and pointless. people are different. although he lives up to his peers and therefore should put more effort on the concerts...

It really doesn't bother me too much. Obviously it is nice to see a bit of movement and showmanship, but the majority of bands that I love (Oasis, The Strokes) have never really had a frontman who does much more than stand at the mic, and it has never hampered my enjoyment of a concert. After all, it's all about the music.

As a side note, best current frontman for showmanship is Brandon Flowers. He bounces around the stage going from side to side and standing up on the amps during songs. But he is about 20 years younger than Jon so...

I don't care if he doesn't move or plays guitar a lot as long as he sounds like he is 'really' enjoying the time he spends on stage.
He is 51 years old by the end of this week, he has good genes but cannot fit in the skin of a guy in his early 30's anymore - people have to get a grip....Yes Bruce moves more, ok.
I think it's because Bruce is less pretending on stage - he is less putting a mask on - to fit what the people fantasy about him.
Jon pretends for years now - the same routine to please the crowd the poses smiles and winks for photos etc - so he seems to me that today he has much more hard time to be convincing - so I'd rather have him spontaneous and static better than moving and looking awkward (the dance on the pillars IS awkward to me - but the Hallelujah routine was awkward too - awkward feeling is not linked to the moves for me )
Ifit is formulaic and staged - moving or static - I will cringe.

he doesn't necessarily pretends every night. i've seen him being as genuine as possible on some concerts. when he leaves auto pilot mode that is.

I believe "movement" the way it's being used here includes a lot of other things, like passion and just making people believe he wants to be there doing that.

I can see him just going through the motions, just getting the songs over with, he doesn't have to move around a lot to connect and entertain.

Yet, I think that he is a little let down of the new songs live reception and totally self-aware of his voice condition so he can't enjoy it. His problem is that he wants to be relevant so hard, and he wants his new stuff to be loved and it doesn't work that way. Playing the old hits and stuff should be something he really wants to do, because they were awesome songs back them and they are awesome songs now. There is nothing to be ashamed of having a glorious past and a not so bright present.

Also, if you are selling the new songs live and unreleased, please make awesome performances for them. He looks bored doing even the new songs, no awesome intros, no passion, nothing.

I still think his back is hurting him.

If that is the case, then he should say so publicly. I sense something is wrong with him, not sure if it's his back or something else, though?

I honestly couldn't give more of a **** about him moving or not, what I care is him singing with passion, that you can see in his face that he's enjoying playing. They could do an acoustic gig where the whole band is sitted in chairs and I'd enjoy it anyway.

I'd rather have a static frontman than a fat old man that can't sing half of its notes because he's running out of breath.

They can't say it, bad for business. Imagine being told the lead singer has a bad back at a show you are going too? It will turn off ticket sales (for any band, not just Bon Jovi) His not a statue, his is not struck to the spot but his not like he used to be. It could be age, it could be what he wants to do now but I think there is something going on. I have heard a few reviews where they said, you could tell he wanted to move around more but held back.

What has he done to his back?

I don't know what's wrong with him lately. Don't know if it's taking a while to get into it or not. Or whether he is taking it easy until the album is out and that's when he might feel a bit more confident. It's a puzzler.

For me, I think he may of been warned about his knees. Either that, or he is lazy.
