It's not even that I don't like Water, it's an okay tune but it's mid-paced, just like BoB was.

But as I said in my first post on the thread, it's not just about the song, it's about the energy and whether I was there or I wasn't (I have a feeling someone ain't gonna let that one go) if Jon crouching down a few times, bobbing his left shoulder a bit, staring out at the crowd with a little smile for the ladies and then walking over to Bobby is deemed as enough energy for an opening tune in some people's books, great; knock yerself out, have fun.

For those who say 'it's really easy to criticise when you weren't there,' or 'they'll never please everyone' etc... this is a discussion board... I don't think I am alone in believing that discussing how the band have transitioned as a live act is a valid point to make.

I have standards that THIS BAND set long ago... Just a shame it took Richie leaving again for Jon to start wiggling his shoulder a bit.

Then it starts to get a little Springsteen...

Then he brings it back a bit in 2011...

I'm all for sharing videos from the bands peak, but are you seriously comparing todays shows to ones from twenty years ago? Come on then...

Well done. Just take one segment from several posts, in isolation and spin it. Read the thread, hell, even just read the whole post; it was about their evolution as a live band. One of the live performances was from 2011.

God, it gets boring when people just troll through, pick out one comment and try to take you down. Put some flamin' effort in.

Depends what you mean...

Why am I negative towards the band?

OR

Why am I negative towards people who troll threads and try to pick holes in what people say...

OR

Why am I negative towards people who don't like anyone being negative towards the band?

I know I'm a broken record with this, but IML should be the opener. It's a massive hit that the crowd goes apeshit for anyway, so it would skyrocket the energy at the star of the show. Plus the crowd would be so into singing that the live deficiencies of the song could be masked. Plus think about it: Pitch black arena, crowd read for the start of the show:
*Bwuam Bwuam*
"This ain't a song for the broken hearted."

You see, I agree with you on this, but there's just one thing that stand in the way: It's a superb way to start a show if the next 5 or 6 songs are Bad name, Raise your hands, Runaway, We got it goin on and such. But if the next song is Whole lot of leavin or Lost highway or WWWB and such, it's a lost classic. It all comes down to Jon really. My personal favourite would be HAND to open the show, It's my life to open the encore. High energy both ways
