Us Brits love a good soap opera. Coronation St, Eastenders, Emmerdale etc....

WWE is increasingly popular in the UK with its comedy story lines and gruesome fights. Really WWE is like a soap opera. That's why it's so popular. More and more adults watch wrestling and no-one over the age of 13 takes it too seriously.

I've noticed a few "Fandango" mentions on this site so there must be a few of you out there!

What did you think of Wrestlemania? I personally thought it was weak. RAW the next day was better. We haven't had a good Wrestlemania since 18, when it was The Rock vs Hogan.

Bounce7800 04-25-2013 05:32 PM

Just done both nights at The O2. I'm on TV way too much, doing far too much fandangoing.

Also had a row with an Uso

Gruesome fights??? Not in the last 10 or so years, since they went all PG on it.
Was a time when Hell In a Cell matches resulted in plenty of blood being shed - now you can't even hit someone in the head with a chair!!!
Obviously it's all for safety reasons now though.......

It was always going to go PG because it means many more $$$ for Vince McMahon. However recently i've noticed the odd bit of blood coming back.

Ryback looks to be a poor heel character

Isn't it weird how much the UK go nuts for Fandango! It was plainly obvious that the RAW in New Jersey after Mania was full of British ex pats.

Only ever been to one live event. At Earls Court back in 2001

Two things I'll never understand aboot 'Murrica: Their Nascar and their fake wrestling.

Canada go nuts for it, mate. Seriously Canadian crowds are renown for being the most loud and boisterous. And a lot of the WWE greats from the past have come from our great Commonwealth.

By the way do you guys have the Queen's head on your dollars?

In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede proves this. The 10 man tag match with the Hart Foundation is made by the crowd. It gives you shivers.

Bounce7800 04-26-2013 12:36 AM

Yeah the Canadian crowds are usually great. But I agree with you on Nascar, as an F1 nut, I keep trying and failing to watch Nascar, leaves me cold.

Unlike Fandango :p Here's a pic from Tues night:

By the way: Smackdown's main event this week is very good indeed, give it a watch when it airs tomorrow.

KeepTheFaith2211 04-26-2013 12:43 AM

I've just ordered 'For All Mankind', a new documentary on Mick Foley. Can't wait to watch it.

Panda 04-26-2013 01:17 AM

Yes we have the Queens head on all of our money.

However, I don't know a single person who likes fake wrestling. Can't remember the last time it's been here either. Maybe it's an Eastern thing (Toronto, London, Montreal)

I think you mean 'scripted'. People have been seriously hurt wrestling.

It's quite good.

Anyway, I'm pretty big wrestling fan (not just WWE) have been for a ling time, though warning I can be very "smark-y" about it.

Actually, there's quite a strong fan-base in Western Canada. Was a hotbed of talent for a long time as well. WWE doesn't tour their often though. Draws huge when they do.

CM Punk's "Best In the World" DVD is superb and well worth a watch.

Hoping that he's over here next month - Lita (along with Tara/Victoria, Shelton Benjamin, Kid Kash & Doug Williams) is appearing at Collectormania MK in last weekend of May. She's still with CM Punk and I have a sneaky suspicion that, seeing as he's on a break, he will come with her. Don't for one minute think the organisers will announce that he's attending as they'd never cope with the chaos that will ensue!

Brilliant DVD. I love that Punk was able to talk them into paying for the Indy and ROH footage. I'm actually meeting him in June.

My personal favourite match of all time, involving the three greatest of all time bar none. Amazing story, drama, great match, leading to two amazing feuds and the biggest moment in wrestling history. Plus, a shock ending. It doesn't get better than this.

Pre-sale tickets, cost £70 plus fees, ended up just shy of £160 for the pair. Same for Raw. Just got lucky with the pre-sales, sometimes I get them in the general sale. Always go for the most expensive floor seats, usually end up a few rows back, was front row in 2009 and got lucky again this time with row B for Raw and row A for Smackdown. Most people around us were from Viagogo though so probably paid a fair bit more.

I downloaded Main Event and the camera has very kindly zoomed right in on me as Khali comes out as I'm pretty much saying "Not this prick"

I'll have to catch up with Superstars for my Uso-baiting, and Smackdown where parts of the Del Rio match and the Undertaker match were right in front of us at the barrier

Jim Bon Jovi 04-27-2013 05:24 PM

I loved wrestling when I was a kid when Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Texas Tornado etc... were all kicking around. I was quite into it early in high school around the time the Undertaker had the ministry / Stephanie kidnap story arc going.

Whenever it comes on and I'm channel hopping these days I give it 5-10 minutes but I just can't get into it. To me wrestling was all about the characters and none of them are particularly good from what i can see. Most of them are very similar.

Any of you guys ever do e-fed wrestling? I did it on and off a few times (won some belts and shit too :D ) I last did it to waste a bit of time when I worked out in Saudi but I had to stop as my wrestler was an Islamic fundamentalist and I was genuinely concerned about the powers that be in the Saudi government feeling my collar if they were watching my e-mail and internet use.

Undertaker was on Smackdown recently?

Yeah. He had a pretty good match with Dean Ambrose. Shield Triple Powerbombed him through a table to the end the show and write him off TV.

Bounce7800 05-06-2013 09:29 PM

Yep, had a tag match with Hell No against The Shield on Raw, and then a singles match against Ambrose on Smackdown. Both were decent matches, and he seemed fine in both- I don't see why they don't use him sparingly in tag team matches, he can still go and can be protected in a tag team match.

Ambrose too has had 2 great matches in a row now, last year he was the dark match for us at the SD tapings and now he is main eventing the show against Taker a year later. Glad that they are using him well, all of The Shield members should have great careers, I just hope they don't break them up too soon or **** them up like they did the Nexus.

This weeks shows were pretty poor I thought- some absolute dirge on Raw, Tug of wars, RRod/Colter in matches. A load of dirge. Ryback/D-Bry on Smackdown was decent though

Walkerboy 05-10-2013 09:45 PM

Reason they aren't using 'Taker again now is because he's going back to hospital for more surgery.....

Bounce7800 05-10-2013 10:50 PM

He's held together with Chewing gum. Lets hope they can get some more use out of him outside of WM, he was great to watch the other week. The show is really struggling without Punk. I do wish they would use Brock on someone other than HHH, its the same problem I had with The Rock- he really should have had some decent interaction with some other superstars, maybe some squash matches here and there. At least Brock has interacted with 3MB and The Miz which is good. Be good to see if they do something with Ryback, despite being terminally dull. Or a Punk/Brock Heyman team would be wonderful.

nickolai 05-11-2013 12:38 AM

Ryback is pretty woeful on the mic - and the whole "Ryback Rules" is shite. Its a shame because if he had half the charisma and arrogance that Punk had he'd be the meanest heel since HHH in the Attitude Era. But he hasn't.

IT'll be interesting to see if Punk comes back as a heel or face. I think he'll return as a face very much like Triple H did in 2001.

But yeah the shows are weak at the moment.

wolffex 05-11-2013 08:48 AM

I used to be a huge fan of it back when it was WWF. I really want to attend WrestleMania 18 in Toronto but couldn't cause the tickets were very expensive but what an impressive show that was. Rock vs Hogan was just electrifying! I saw them back in 2010 in Toronto and that was a nice card. Edge vs Christian, Undertaker vs Edge, Bret Hart winning the U.S. Title!

I don't really watch it much as I find it really boring, I don't think I have religiously watched an entire Raw and Smackdown in almost half a decade. 2004 for me was their last really amazing year after that it was alright but recently it's boring for me

Wrestlemania 21 in 2005 was amazing up until the half-way point. Angle v Michaels, MITB1, Undertaker v Orton and Eddie v Mysterio were all great. Afterwards it went to shit.

There hasn't been too many great Wrestlemanias when you think about it.

Depends on your definition of great IMO. If you're going solely by work-rate and match quality, there have been a few. But if one goes by spectacle and overall good show there's probably been about 10.

I enjoyed Wrestlemania 24. And 22 was okay in spots.

Bounce7800 05-20-2013 07:03 PM

Any thoughts on the Extreme Rules PPV?

Walkerboy 05-20-2013 07:25 PM

Was it on Sky PPV??
If not and it was on Sky Sports I'm annoyed at myself for forgetting....

Bounce7800 05-20-2013 08:09 PM

Nah it was box office.

Crushgen24/88 05-20-2013 09:49 PM

Sounds like it was a terrible show, outside of Shield going over. Not that that they were firing on all cylinders before, but creative is in a worse Post-Wrestlemana rut then usual this year.

Bounce7800 05-20-2013 10:00 PM

Its slumped so much since I saw them at The O2 a few weeks back. Raw has been just awful lately. The PPV was Ok, could see what they were doing with The Shield a mile off, hopefully it might make them move on from their current M.O of turn up at end of show, beat down whoever is in ring, leave. It was great when they were actually righting perceived injustices, but that just got left to the wayside for nothing in particular, which is a shame as they could have made so many other stories arc into that. That being said, The Shield are still the best thing on WWE at the moment.

Cena-Ryback was about what it was always going to be, you were never getting a decent wrestling match there but I was really disappointed with the ending to be honest. Even more so when the box headed twat will no doubt skip down to raw tonight without a scratch on him.

HHH-Brock had me bored as well for the most part. Oh look, kicking out of more finishers again. Yawn. They need to get Brock in a decent new programme and HHH needs to stay out of the ring for a bit.

Very cool. I reckon CM Punk is a very down to earth guy. He also seems a very intelligent guy. He's better as a heel though. Best era was when he quit with the WWE belt. Epic stuff
