What's your favorite pre-2000 ballad? Why?
Let's get out for a while about the richiesetlistsjonvoicephilbobbysucks topic a little bit. We've been talking lately about if we like Never Say Goodbye, about how Living in Sin is the best ballad for somes, how other love This Ain't A Love Song, how others don't think that is that great, etc. so... why don't do a poll?
I know that there're other topics where this have been discussed, but the lastest with a poll dates from 2004 and there was other 4 years later but it didn't have a poll. Also, I'll break the post in two, on post-2000 and pre-2000, as I'm only able to add 10 poll options. I personally love This Ain't A Love Song, and I think that it's by far my favourite Bon Jovi ballad. Other that I consider to be great is Living In Sin, it has that strength that makes it amazing, and let's not get started with the backgrounds guitar on it. And Lie To Me gets me to a melancholic state hard to explain, so I think that makes it a great ballad. I think those are my top 3. Never will get the fascination for I'll Be There For You, as I find it boring but interesting live, specially on the 2011 Tour. I love Always, too, but lately I haven't been feeling it that much. Footnote: I love them all. I'm a romantic sucker that loves ballads. |
If pressed, I would have to say Living in Sin is my favorite ballad at the moment. Honestly my favorites change over time, like if a song has been overplayed (like Bed of Roses), but I usually come back to LIS.
Sometimes I just like how a song makes me feel - with the combination of vocals, harmonies, instruments, etc. and the lyrics don't much matter. LIS just makes me feel good, if that makes any sense. |

I'll Be There For You, easily. Fantastic song, Bon Jovi's best ballad. Bed of Roses and Always are tied for second.

Living In Sin for me. Never heard it live, probably never will either. But in 2008 Jon nailed it on the MSG DVD and it was immense.
Am I the only person that absolutely loves Without Love? Cant get enough of that song. Amazing. |
NSG for me, always will be. Always is a very close second, though.

I equally like Bed of Roses, I'll Be There For You, and Living in Sin. The last sounds the most pleasing to me.

They are all brilliant but I went with Silent Night.... It's not played out and there isn't a bad live version out there that I'm aware of. The real Bon Jovi to me is Self Titled, 7800, Slippery, and NJ (And Blaze).
I remembered the first time I heard it like it was yesterday. I owned Slippery and Jersey and was hanging out with some older chick. I was 15 and she was 17. She picked me up and while we were driving this song came on. I didn't even realize it was Bon Jovi at first because everything sounded like that back in the day and I wasn't as fanatical. She was hot, she was singing it, and I thought the song was excellent so I asked her who it was. She said Bon Jovi... I thought it was new but once I realized it was 7800, I ran out and got the entire cd. I liked Bon Jovi but wasn't a die hard until Blaze. I was a fan of all the hair metal of those times but I discovered 7800 and the first album after Jersey but it was Blaze that took me to that next level. |
My winner is Always. It's such a powerful song and captures a feeling perfectly, you can feel the desperation bleeding out of it.
Bed Of Roses, I'll Be There For You and Livin' In Sin are also phenomenal. This Ain't A Love Song is just below those three for me, but still a fantastic song. Then Never Say Goodbye and Silent Night are a little below that, and my least favourite off that list is probably Lie To Me |
Bed Of Roses for me wins hands down, something about the song I absolutely love.
Living In Sin would be second choice. |
