How the Greatest Hits compilation should've been, according to last.fm.

Yes, this is yet another "I can't sleep"/"I'm bored" threads. I remember how disappointed I was when the Greatest Hits compilation came out, not only because it didn't had any Bounce song, but because it had songs from the albums that had been "compilated" in Crossroad.

I remember Jon saying in an interview that we wouldn't get Runaway or the old hits, that this compilation was supposed to be about the post-Crossroad albums, and that was a great idea, you have Crossroad for the first albums, and then "Crossroad Part II" for the another era. You put them together and had the Ultimate Greatest Hits collection.

So, let's imagine they released a Crossroad Part II. I went to the 2010 Bon Jovi charts on last.fm and I found out that the tracklist should have been something like this:
  1. It's My Life
  2. Have A Nice Day
  3. We Weren't Born To Follow
  4. Misunderstood
  5. Thank You For Loving Me
  6. Everyday
  7. These Days
  8. This Ain't A Love Song
  9. Lost Highway
  10. One Wild Night
  11. Who Says You Can't Go Home
  12. Superman Tonight
  13. (You Want To) Make A Memory
  14. Something For The Pain
In bold, songs that didn't made it into the original compilation. This tracklist is on popularity order, it should be arranged in a way the songs blend nicely. Also, we must add the two new songs: What Do You Got? and No Apologies.

Then I started thinking about variations. If the album were only of post-2000 era, the tracklist would have been like this:
  1. It's My Life
  2. Have A Nice Day
  3. We Weren't Born To Follow
  4. Misunderstood
  5. Thank You For Loving Me
  6. Everyday
  7. Lost Highway
  8. One Wild Night
  9. Who Says You Can't Go Home
  10. Superman Tonight
  11. (You Want To) Make A Memory
  12. Say It Isn't So
  13. When We Were Beautiful
  14. Welcome To Wherever You Are
In bold, songs that didn't made it into the original compilation. This tracklist is on popularity order, it should be arranged in a way the songs blend nicely. Also, we must add the two new songs: What Do You Got? and No Apologies.

And if they needed or wanted to do a Greatest Hits the way they did, according to last.fm, it should have been this way (popularity order + 2 new songs):

CD 1:
  1. It's My Life
  2. Livin' On A Prayer
  3. You Give Love A Bad Name
  4. Wanted Dead Or Alive
  5. Always
  6. Bed Of Roses
  7. I'll Be There For You
  8. Runaway
  9. Have A Nice Day
  10. Bad Medicine
  11. Keep The Faith
  12. We Weren't Born To Follow
  13. Lay Your Hands On Me
  14. Born To Be My Baby
  15. What Do You Got
  16. No Apologies
CD 2:
  1. Misunderstood
  2. Blaze Of Glory
  3. Never Say Goodbye
  4. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night
  5. Thank You For Loving Me
  6. In These Arms
  7. Everyday
  8. These Days
  9. This Ain't A Love Song
  10. Lost Highway
  11. One Wild Night
  12. Who Says You Can't Go Home
  13. This Is Love This Is Life
  14. The More Things Change
Also, in bold, songs that didn't made the original compilation.

That's all. Found it would be interesting to share it.

This is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, most of those old songs are popular BECAUSE they were on a greatest hits album...

This was done with the charts of October 2010, before the compilation was out.

I'm talking about Crossroad. Also, the internet wasn't around for the first one, so the later tracks might et an advantage.

Yours is a good listing. When the album came out I did my own because I didn't like it either. Mine is 4 CDs all overburn to 90mins. Just for fun here's the track list.

CD 1 was an extended version of Cross Road featuring 2 extra songs and all of the regional extra tracks.

CD's 2 & 3 were hits from 1995-2010 (and hits that didn't make the original Cross Road cut). CD 4 featured fan favourites (taken from polls on drycounty.com). I've update CD 4 to feature songs from Richie latest album and What About Now. The collection acts as both a Greatest Hits and Best Of and Deep Cuts.

Titles written in bold didn't appear on the original Cross Road album and titles in italic are regional bonus tracks released at the time,

CD 1
01. LIVIN' ON A PRAYER
02. KEEP THE FAITH (EDIT)
03. SOMETHING FOR THE PAIN
04. ALWAYS
