Sunderland 13th June - Official Thread

This gig seems to be getting a bit left out...anyone else going from here???

Kryten2340 06-05-2013 12:30 AM

I'm going. First show in the north east in 13 years. Just hope Richie is there although as time goes on that looks increasingly unlikely.

KeepTheFaith2211 06-05-2013 12:43 AM

sos...rat pit

aladdin 06-05-2013 08:30 AM

I'm going looking forward to it but not looking forward to entering sol not good when whole family are nufc fans

Walkerboy 06-05-2013 11:17 AM

Groupon £32.50 GA tickets now available for this gig as well.....

beanz_on_toast 06-05-2013 07:16 PM

I'mgoing to this one with a £15 seat whoop! Tho now thinking of getting a groupon but more tHan 1200 sold...there's gonna be some q to collect! Hm unsure what to do now do I stick with my seat on the floodlights or spend all day q'ing up for GA and being so small might not even get a better view!

This was my seated experience of Kings Of Leon at the Stadium of Shite a couple of years ago.

Looking at the stadium layout on ticketmaster I don't think where I was are the £15 seats. I suspect these are higher up on the adjoining and opposite stand.

Hope this helps make your decision.

Chris79 06-06-2013 02:42 PM

Yes, I'm going (this and Hampden).
Be warned, the logistics around this place is terrible.
The transport to get out of 'The Rat Pit' is the Metro train line.
At other concerts, it's been a 2 mile queue.
At Bruce's concert there last year, we ended up walking the majority of the way home - about 6 mile, but still quicker than waiting.
Terrible place to get to.
Terrible place to get out of.
Terrible place.

The Metro is not the only way out. Go North East will have late buses on.

Chris79 06-06-2013 02:50 PM

True. Forgot that.
After the show, just get out quick - Bus, metro, walk, run, swim...

Maybe's not swim. I wouldn't want to swim in the wear.

I think parking at Sunderland Enterprise park and walking along will be what I'm doing.

aladdin 06-06-2013 03:58 PM

Parking at stadium of light metro (stupid me) as going over quite early and will need to nip back to car probably take us hours to get out though  never been to stadium of light for concert and only one band would step foot in there for

last year I was here for Brucie and i parked at uni car park - £5 from 3pm til end of the show and wasnt to bad getting out either. it was just a few mins walk from the SOL. No idea if they are doing it this year tho as I am having to get the metro bak to Newcastle after.
Also does anyone kno if there are night buses runnin to Newcastle after or jus the metro?

Go North East will be providing extra late night buses. To get back to Newcastle you will want either the 56 or the X3.

Thanks, its not as bad as I thought but the cheap seats are the highest up bit which wud be not thay good. Decided to take my chances and get a groupon!

Yeah I'm going too, Manchester on Saturday then SOL on the 13th. I think this is the real reason Richie pulled out of the tour, playing Sunderland is enough to freak anyone out. :D ;)

Only kidding, wonder if Bon Jovi mentions the Wear before singing That's What The Water Made. If he comes out wearing a Sunderland Football Shirt, I will probably vomit.

Can someone in DC take a Newcastle shirt and throw it in Jon's direction?

aladdin 06-06-2013 11:42 PM

I'm in DC and have many Newcastle shirts in my house but will be too scared I get eaten alive lol

I'm in DC too, I'd be scared to do that also. If he does reference a river before That's What The Water Made Me, I'd LMAO if he said the Tyne instead of the Wear.

Not much longer now

KeepTheFaith2211 06-06-2013 11:58 PM

Jon won't wear a sunderland shirt, but he will say the word. 'Bad enough as it is.

Kryten2340 06-07-2013 12:05 AM

He could play Local Hero though, well Phil could.

Kryten2340 06-07-2013 12:06 AM

I've never understood why Mike Ashley doesn't try to get gigs at SJP. Is it because the stadium is smack in the middle of town and a residential area backs onto it?

Chris79 06-07-2013 12:17 AM

Apparently the acoustics would be terrible.
Bryan Adams went a few years ago, and apparently the stage set up was weird and the sound wasn't good due to the size of the place.
That why these new stadiums are built a certain, to get concerts during the summer (Coventry, Etihad, S*nderland).
It worked well at St James in the 80s (Queen, Stones, Bruce)

Chris_Newton 06-07-2013 08:37 AM

I have a feeling this gig will get a very basic set list.

Sunderland and Newcastle are more or less the same thing. Same accent and all.

I'm glad you were haha!

Kryten2340 06-07-2013 05:01 PM

I wonder if Jon will tuck into the local delights that are cheesy chips after the show.

He might even come out and say Whese keys are these keys?

I bet 99% of people on here won't get that.

beanz_on_toast 06-07-2013 06:37 PM

The metro are running extra trains until nearly 1am to herd everyone bak to Newcastle '

Awful thought

JoviMackem 06-08-2013 01:36 AM

Ah... the mentality of the Mag... and in this case, the plastic Mag from Shields... LOVE IT... although you missed out the blue pop jibe

Any way, hope you enjoy your visit to the Stadium of Light and fingers crossed the band are on form!

Quick question... have you ever seen a Mackem punch a horse?

*awaits witty reply about 5-1 or Mackems in Milan*

Chris79 06-08-2013 02:55 AM

Bite!
We've caught one lads!
