If you listen to the music Phil writes he's not going to be a fan of post - 2000 Bon Jovi. Then again, neither are most of us here.

The problem is Phil X doesn't even try to play like Richie.
As a fan I feel uncomfortable to see a guy playing who: 1.) isn't able to play the guitar parts like Richie after 7 years who is supposed to be a professional studio musician 2.) doesn't even like the songs or the band and the solos he is playing 3.) thinks his voice suits Bon Jovi (except for prayer his mic should be turned of) I accept that Richie is not in the band but what fans deserve is the best possible replacement. A average Bon Jovi cover band wouldn't hire Phil X as a backup guitarist. |
It's funny you guys are talking the difference here bc I decided to spend the whole morning listening to Richie's guitar playing on youtube. I play some myself, know the basics but it doesn't matter much here. I've always been drawn to some musicians more and can recognize their voice and/or playing everywhere. I've watched some vids comparing Richie and Phil playing various solos in BJ songs and read countless comments and most of them were about one thing: nobody denied Phil's technical abilities, yet the words like 'god' 'magic' 'soul' "melody' were pretty frequent when it comes to Richie. His playing is warm and thick, it's like flying like one guy said. Not every performance was his best and there are quite a few vids with him playing rather sloppy but he's still a hell of a guitarist. You become a legend for a reason.

I've often thought about how Phil feels about the music. I really feel like post New Jeresy BJ aren't his thing and his shot at Richie was about signing vintage instruments more than a knock against him. Though I recall him call him Richie Samboring, or am I making that up? Those videos got pulled so fast after he started playing with the band.
EDT: I brought this up in 2011. Cool cool. https://drycounty.com/jovitalk/bon-j...korina-t53528/ |

Yep, he did call him Samboring. He didn’t like RS signing his Flying V. I’m trying to wrack my brain remembering, but I’m sure there were other instances of him being pissy about Bon Jovi/RS. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
