Solos For Bobby
After watching El Bollock Scratcher extraordinare massacre yet more solos on the IOW webcast last night, I was trying to wrack my brain thinking of the solos that would actually suit Baboosh.
I hate Bobby as much as the next man, probably more so, and think he shouldn't have any solos at all, but there's gotta be some songs that suit him more than Bad Name and In These Arms? For instance, Wildflower. Yeah, not many people like it, but if rumours are right that he played the solo on the album then even he couldn't **** that up. Chuck it in the slow spot occasionally and it gives us a mix up too. If it wasn't for the talkbox I'd say It's My Life, its a pretty simplistic solo that he could wrap his sausage fingers around, and Livin In Sin doesn't stray too much from his beloved 1 long note style. Maybe Wild Is The Wind to a degree, although Jon's given up on that one after the US knit-a-thon. I don't know if he did the solo on When We Were Beautiful but that would be a go, a few WAN tracks should be capable enough of like Whats Left Of Me & Army Of One, as well as Thick As Thieves if they ever gave that a spin HAND seems to be his best go at a solo and prevents Phil having to use a double neck I guess, apart from In These Arms which Ive sadly conditioned myself to. Anyone think of any others? I'm starting to feel guilty about the extent of my Bobby hate, but Jon really shouldn't be giving him solos that he struggles to do when there are ones that play to his style a bit more. |
Memory. I suck at guitar and I can play that solo.

That was funny, and true. No solos for Bandiera, not even a place in the band. |

No solos for him, if Hugh (that has been there since 1995) is in the dark, he shouldn't be able to get out of his cage. He's no member of the band, he's no nothing, just play rhythm guitar, Bobby, and let Richie the solos.

Very funny post OP!
I could tolerate him doing the What About Now solo. |
I think BWC is alright but that's pushing it.

He shouldn't be in the band period. You look at other top global acts and consider how many have musicians that would f*ck up as many songs as Bobby does and you'd struggle to come up with any I'd imagine.
The problem is, Jon likes to surround himself with 'yes' men. That's why he has the likes of his incompetent brother running unofficial and disastrous PR. Until he starts getting his house in order and stops putting people in roles where they're out of their depth, they'll continue to be a bit of a laughing stock in the music world. Nobody used to come close to them live and everybody on this board was fairly unanimous that the live shows always eclipsed and somewhat made up for lacklustre studio albums but even they are gradually starting to unravel now. :( |
If Bobby stayed a rhythm guitarist, it'd be fine. I've heard in some recordings that there are parts where he actually does add to the sound. But to give him solos is egregious, especially considering Tico and Dave (members of the band since the start) and even Hugh don't get solos. Richie wrote great solos in songs like In These Arms, so let him (or Phil) play them.
