My Interview with Obbie about Box-Set

During first Bon Jovi show in Poland I meet Obbie and of course I asked him some questions... Here you have:

- He said that he don't want to talk too much about Box-set because that isn't confirmed yet and he don't know if they realise it or not. But after tour end he will look on all BJ stuff which he's got. Probably he will work with them.
- Almost all unrelased demos which they have were put on last Box-set
- Obbie said that he didn't put New Jersey demos on last Box-set because all of them are on web. I said that of course they are but in poor quality. He said that he will work on them to make better quality.
- When Jon say that they have 25 songs on almost each albums he mean that they wrote that amount of songs but many of them are only on papper. Many of them even are not recorded as a demo.
- I said that we know about many demos which they didn't realised like Cadillac Men, Nothing or first versios This Ain't Love This Is Live - He said that he have them all.
- I told him that fans could decide which demos should be on next Box-set. He said that he thought about interaction with fans on this project. He'll make list of all demos which he's got and then they'll decide what they'll do.

I think that's all.
By the way he's nice guy.

Thank you SO much for this, great information. I'm really hoping they'll do the boxset, I think we need another one, and maybe they could record some of the songs they have "on paper" for it?

Great, thanks for the info.

And I think Obie always comes across as a very nice and polite person when you see him or when he interacts with fans, just saying...

They have plenty of unreleased material if they want to put out another boxset. Back in 2010, Obie said that while he was searching the vaults for the live songs to be included in the Special Editions he found 25/30 demos they completely forgot about. The thing is, Island/Universal is not willing to invest a lot of money in a project that only diehard fans will buy.. But still, they could release it only on the digital stores in order to reduce the costs a lot...

About Cadillac Man, I remember an interview where Jon said they never recorded a proper studio version of the song. Could be wrong though.

I'd be happy with a digital release if the making of a physical boxset is too expensive nowadays. All the cases and booklets are lovely, but getting the songs are the main thing and I can see cost of making the product being an issue to something that won't sell much.

Island/Universal... it's really amaizing me how artists like Richie Sambora (last record) or for example Placebo or MSPReachers can realise they normal albums as a Vinyls, Box-sets, CD with specials Books ecc and band like Bon Jovi which last album is in TOP25 best selling albums of this year realise only CD without even good booklet ;/

If I remember correct Bon Jovi Box-set is gold in USA and reached TOP60 in billboard... Sambora AOL reached #149 and was realised as Box-set in 2 versions.
MSPreachers also realised National Treasures – The Complete Singles - big great Box-set

Why Bon Jovi can't do this? Why not with every album? Why not as a Box-set which will celebrating their 30's years.

I hope they will realise Box-set next year.

About Cadillac Men. There is french cover of this song recorded with Richie Sambora (Ca Ne Change Pas Un Homme - J.Hallaway).
It sound very similar to live version which Bon Jovi play in 2? shows. So it lookslike they have demo of that song (which they gave him).

I know I've been saying this since the last box set came out but putting them up as an iTunes exclusive would cost them so little. It's not going to sell regardless. It just won't. But it'd cost far less to just throw them online than to make a special case like in 2004. The diehards will get 'em and that's who they are aimed at.

It doesn't even have to be iTunes, sell it via the Bon Jovi store and done!

Or go retro and re-open AXP and give them away!

That has always been my attitude - just give (or sell) me the damn music and screw the pretty packaging LOL. They could do like Dave Matthews does and sell mp3s or flac files. Bingo - everybody is happy :D
