When everyone from America had just seen the last show in Lisbon there was no one thinking that the shows at Giants were even remotely special anymore. Good? Sure, but special? Nah...

You have a point but, if I had seen the Lisbon show this year I would have been dead disappointed. This European Tour was nothing compared to what we saw except for 2 or 3 shows.

Well yeah, but that's spread out over 3 shows. Show number 1 and 2 had quite predictable setlists. Granted, show number 2 was better than number 3 despite the third one having a better set (which was perfect proof that a show doesn't need spectacular surprises for it to be good), but out of the 3 shows none of them were as good as most shows I'd see in Europe a year later, or the better shows I'd seen in Europe just a few years earlier. And as for earlier shows at Giants...2001 and 2003 were very average compared to European performances of that same tour.

It's only people from New Jersey/America who have never seen a European show that think these homecoming shows are the best thing out there. When everyone from America had just seen the last show in Lisbon there was no one thinking that the shows at Giants were even remotely special anymore. Good? Sure, but special? Nah...

I never said they were better then Europe, or as special as Europe, or that they were the best thing out there. At this point it's basic fact that (almost) any show they do in Europe is going to trump (almost) any show they do in the US. But I will stand by that those first three NMS nights were very good shows, and had a decent (for the US) amount of rarities.

Oh, I agree with that. I'm not saying the shows were bad by any means as I enjoyed the first three a lot. But as for rarities...it was kind of the same old to me. I remember talking to other die hards and we pretty much predicted every single rare song out there with the exception of I'd Die For You. You can declare Just Older a rarity, but it kind of shows how daring the setlists really were, if you know what I mean?

As for them being very good shows; I felt the show in Calgary 2010, which was just 2 hours and 15 minutes long, was better than the first show at Metlife. That kind of put things in perspective for me as to how special the shows really are.

Sebastiaan

I definitely agree with you in the sense that a show being in Jersey doesn't make it special at all. Ditto for it being a sad reflection on the setlist that Just Older is a rarity, but I also think it's fair to call it one. And I get what you're saying about Europe (like I said, there's no argument that what they do in Europe blows away the US) but looking at it from a solely US perspective as far as where I could see them (which is all I can do as I can't afford to go any where else) I'd take the setlists I've gotten over the last three tours worth of Ny/NJ shows ( Dry County 4 times, These Days twice, Always 5 times, etc.) over anywhere else in this country. That said, I agree with you about setlists not making the show. NMS 10 night one and MSG 11 night one were both bland shows, as was Gillette 10. Uniondale 11 and Bamboozle were good shows, but no surprised of any kind, and of course MetLife Night 4 was a disaster. But the second two 2010 MetLife shows, second 2 2011 MSG shows, and last night's show were all quite good.

Anyway, as usual I'll be tweeting the setlist at @Titan4Ever2488 Warning: As usual, there will probably be more than a few snarky comments involved, for those who care about such things.

I went to one where Jon hurt his leg. And though it started out badly by bad sound and the admitted "cobwebs" in Jon's throat, they pulled it out of mediocrity, and I enjoyed it. I particularly recall an exquisite Love's The Only Rule.

Depends where you were. I can tell you that in the 300 and 200 levels, TD got a very minor response and TAALS got no response.

I was at the 17 section and when Jon listed TAALS, everybody around me was silent. I did not hear anything coming from the other sectors neither.

Just watch the videos. Clearly people are exaggerating.
