Well, here's night 1 at the Meadowlands. Who knows what to expect or not. Hopefully it'll be a special pair of shows for their homecoming. The last time they played this venue was on July 9, 2010, which was the disaster of a show with Richie's ****ups, Jon's mood and his broken leg. Here was THAT set...

1. Raise Your Hands
2. We Weren't Born To Follow
3. You Give Love A Bad Name
4. Born To Be My Baby
5. Superman Tonight
6. In These Arms
7. When We Were Beautiful
8. Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars
9. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
10. We Got It Going On
11. Bad Medicine
~ Old Time Rock and Roll (with Kid Rock)
12. Loves the Only Rule
13. Lay Your Hands On Me (Richie Sambora on lead vocals)
14. Open All Night
15. I'll Be There For You
16. Squeezebox (acoustic)
17. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night (acoustic)
18. Have A Nice Day
19. Work For The Working Man
20. It's My Life
21. Who Says You Can't Go Home
22. Keep The Faith

Encore
23. Wanted Dead or Alive
24. I Love This Town
25. Glad All Over
26. Livin' On A Prayer

However, the last time the boys played the New York City area was May 6, 2011, when they played the Nassau Coliseum, approximately 20 miles east of New York City proper on Long Island. That show also lacked Richie. Here was that setlist.

01. Lost Highway
02. We Weren't Born to Follow
03. You Give Love a Bad Name
04. Born to Be My Baby
05. Superman Tonight
06. The More Things Change
07. It's My Life
08. Runaway
09. We Got It Going On
10. Bad Medicine ~ Roadhouse Blues ~ Old Time Rock and Roll
11. Lay Your Hands On Me
12. What Do You Got?
13. Bed of Roses
14. I'll Be There For You
15. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night (with Lorenze Ponce)
16. Who Says You Can't Go Home
17. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead ~ Dancing in the Streets ~ Start Me Up
18. Have a Nice Day
19. Keep the Faith

Encore:
20. In These Arms
21. Wanted Dead or Alive
22. Livin' on a Prayer

So it's been a while since New York / New Jersey had a show with Richie (February 2011 at MSG). Hopefully the band can deliver these nights.

sooo excited! can't wait!

Supersonic 07-21-2013 11:55 PM

Aloha !

That last show at the Meadowlands, together with Foxborough 2010, were the worst shows I've seen in North America, and ultimately made me realize that no matter what venue or location Jon is playing there, it won't make a difference in regards to the quality of the performances. I've got zero expectations for this one and have never regretted not going after seeing 4 shows in the Metlife Stadium 3 years ago.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

milomom 07-22-2013 02:14 AM

I don't wish another show like that night 4 show on anyone. The setlist was a disappointment because they did none of the goodies that they'd done at the O2, but in the grand scheme of U.S. setlists, it definitely wasn't as bad as it can get. IMO there was something major wrong that night. There was absolutely no magic whatsoever. It's hard to explain, but it was as if there were no connections among the people on the stage and no connection between the stage and the audience. The show was history long before Jon hurt his leg.

Poor Kathleen had a house full of pissed off Jovi fans that night. Yikes. *HouseGuestsFromHell

I still remember that car ride home from the venue.

It wasn't just the guests that were pissed off LOL. We were all disappointed and grouchy. You are right though - there was no magic that night at all. I have been at plenty of vanilla shows that still had some magic - but not that one :( There was no communication between the band members on stage or with the audience. Maybe we just expected too much.

Couldn't have put it better. What a shitstorm that show was.
Bought a ticket for the 25th on a whim after finding it cheap and having the night off from work. Not expecting anything really, but it'll be my only show this tour so hopefully it's good.

Email I got from the fan club says Bon Jovi aren't on stage until 9pm!? Is that usual for a US show cos after 3 UK shows this tour I was all geared up for a 3hr one again as part of my New York holiday. I know they have support playing but seems a short set is on the cards. Glad I've not shelled out for the Runaway Tour package!

Jonty 07-24-2013 07:25 AM

Mmmmm praying for good weather now!! After travelling from UK for this I'd hate for a storm to make it short!! Thought it was a 8.30 for BJ?

That's pretty normal for US stadium shows. They pretty much never go on before the sun goes down, which is about 8:45 this time of year.

I'd say that's usual everywhere but the U.K. Your curfews are often at 10 while in the rest of the world it's either 11, 12 or even 1 o'clock. The last show at that venue started 9:30 and ended at 12 or something like it. The only thing that'll matter in regards to the length of the show over there is Jon's willingness to go on. :)

I just realized this show is exactly in the middle day between July 20th and July 30th, so it should be pretty special. Not set list wise, but in the "holy shitting gang snapping clue game! It's the middle day between July 20th and July 30th" kind of way. Man the moon is looking awesome tonight! In about nine months some new people are gonna be born....

:) On a scale of 1 to 10??!

About a medium.

Lucid, aware, but also stupidly giggly :)

I do agree with this. Besides the firework display during KTF and the energy of the crowd, I've always expected a little more from the band.

Maybe some real random songs, first and only time being played such as Edge Of A Broken Heart or something.... Or some guest appearances... Or have Jon fly through the audience. Something a little more than the usual.

It's going to be the same standard set-list and then he'll make sure that he changes 5 to 7 songs for the people who are attending both nights such as myself. Tonight I'll get Always and Saturday I'll get Bed Of Roses.

That's quite optimistic considering their form this entire tour.

No guest appearances please!! The last time there were guest appearances, they did half of the show, mostly covers.

The only unexpected person I'd be glad to see on stage today is Richie.

But EOABH sounds like a great idea.

Being strapped to a harness might help him hit some of those notes. :D

How many back-to-back dates have they done this tour? Usually this would result in quite a few changes but I can only think of Toronto (?) where they played mutiple nights and there wasn't too many changes if I remember correctly.

Actually, from all the shows I've seen in North America, the energy of the crowd was at its lowest at the shows at Metlife. Despite the show being dreadful, Foxborough had a better atmosphere. The shows in New Jersey never felt like some sort of homecoming to me, there was zero atmosphere there.

Montreal and Toronto have been the only multi-show cities so far. They were the 2nd and 3rd, and 4th and 5th shows of the tour, respectively.

Crushgen24/88 07-25-2013 10:50 PM

I don't know, I still think the 2nd and 3rd MetLife shows in 2010 were pretty good. Nice setlists, some rarities, band in good form, etc.
Anyway, as usual I'll be tweeting the setlist at @Titan4Ever2488 Warning: As usual, there will probably be more than a few snarky comments involved, for those who care about such things.

Savvi 07-25-2013 11:40 PM

Will be heading to Penn Station in a few minutes to make my way to the show. I hope everyone else going has a great time ^_^

I'm putting all the dramas aside and will take it for what it is. I'll be having a good time :)

Jonty 07-25-2013 11:52 PM

Time to head to the show. Hopefully a half decent show, the irony being the rain normally falls at the Dublin show for us so instead we cross the Atlantic to......rain while it is still sunny at home!!

There has been a rain cloud hovering over most of this tour.

But good luck to those going tonight! Hope it's the best of the tour so far!

Kazyyy12 07-26-2013 01:29 AM

Wish I could be there tonight, but I'll be anxiously awaiting the PBP, hoping for a great show for everyone going! I'd think there is a good chance for songs like Radio and Die For You over these 2 nights, and if we see These Days or TAALS on US soil, it'll be in Jersey so here's to a great set and performance!

Support act are half way through song 3.

There's a very cool breeze and dark clouds but no rain so far :)

The lack of atmosphere could be due to the fact that so many dignitaries/family/friends and the paperboy feel the need to show up because Bon Jovi is playing in New Jersey that true fans are displaced to further back in the stadium. It's just a theory brought on by the fact that I met Jon's dentist at a show in NJ on the Lost Highway tour.

Waiting to see what the review is for tonight before I drop the cash for tickets to Saturday's show.

I think if there will be changes in the main set, they'll be in the ballad spots after KTF or maybe the main set will be longer tonight with 20-21 songs with about a 6-7 song encore for a 26-28 song set, just my thoughts

Yeah. I say they get Always and Saturday Night in the encore, and then Saturday they'll get Dry County, Undivided or NSG, Radio, etc.

rightsideofwrong 07-26-2013 04:55 AM

will we see Ill be there for you or Living in Sin possibly? Jon hasn't sang much of IBTFY...It always seem so much less magical when I dont hear that live, and I didnt think tour. Bummer. Richie is too integral to that song though, and I think he knows it..The backing vocals harmonics / guitar work is unmatched

It might be the first song out of the encore... we've seen that a couple times lately.

And thank you Esther
