The last time the band played this venue was two nights earlier. No setlist info because it hasn't happened yet! This is the last show before a 2.5 month break, and perhaps the final show with Phil X. Will they pull out all the stops or just give a nice, decent show? Stay tuned to find out...

Aloha !

Dude, what's with the amount of topics in regards to the American shows? Are you going on holiday or something and are you afraid no one else will give a shit? :)

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I have a feeling the setlist will be special, it is 30 years since the first album was out. Something like this is predicted, most likely even expected.

Roulette
She Don't Know Me
Shot Through The Heart
Love Lies
Breakout
Burning For Love
Come Back
Get Ready
Bad Medicine
Blaze Of Glory
I'll Be There For You
Who Says You Can't Go Home
I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
We Weren't Born To Follow
Keep The Faith
-------------------
Have A Nice Day
Dry County
I'm With You
Wanted Dead Or Alive
Living On A Prayer

Yeah, and after this they will all play the full These Days album backwards with Bobby Bandiera playing the riff of Hey God on a saxophone.

You can't be serious now, are you?

A cousin from my friend's dog said he saw Obie with Alec in the soundcheck, too.

Kazyyy12 07-27-2013 04:31 AM

On a serious note, the changes I think that happen in tomorrow's main set are Amen in one of the ballad spots, maybe What's Left of Me somewhere in the main set, Radio instead of WLOL, I'll keep track of how many of my hunches come true!

As I said for the July 25th thread - when hell freezes over LOL. This will be the last show for a month and a half, why the fcuk would Richie bother to show up for this show?

For my money, this band has gotten very tight with the current lineup - leave it alone - it's very enjoyable. Yes Richie is missed, mostly his vocals and harmony's. His guitar is not missed at all in my opinion, Phil has better tone which is what has been missing for quite a while.

I am looking forward to tomorrow night and whatever changes are in store for us :-)

Pretty much agree with all of this. Hoping you get Dry County, This Ain't A Love Song, Love's The Only Rule, and maybe something off the radar. I love the 2nd night of back-to-back's. Enjoy round 2!

Crushgen24/88 07-27-2013 07:50 AM

My predictions: Blood on Blood opens, Radio, What's Left Of Me, Amen, IBTFY, and LTOR in the main set. Dry County and TAALS in the encore,

micro cuts 07-27-2013 11:43 AM

This is the last show before a long break and it's in new jersey so that makes it really special, after seeing first night's setlist I think tonight it's going to be stellar set. More songs from what about now, something like room at the end of the world and some rare old stuffs like i believe or hey god would be nice and I guess they gonna play either living in sin or wild is the wind, anyway it will be an amazing night. have fun for the ones going.

How quick can one fall from grace.

His guitar not being there, and the lame WAN album are the main reasons for me to skip the tour. A first since since 2000 and I hate that, after all the passion invested in this band. The Jersey show are supposed to be a blast. So I wish you have fun on night #2, but that Richie comment is painfull to read. Either all of them or nothing (for me anyway).

nikos greece 07-27-2013 02:55 PM

i also find it difficult to accept how many people dont miss richies guitar at all...how can this even be possible? the guy was up with the legends for many years, in his bad day richie is still better than all these shredders with no personality...richie may have dissapointed many of us but all these comments are hard to read...who wrote all these songs? all these licks? is there a single song that is performed better now than with richie??? jon may always want to prove himself but this tour was a disaster for the band.., they sound like a cover band, and jon sometimes is so delusional that thinks that people want to listen to kings of suburbia...for gods sake...
richie let us down with his attitude and all but there is no band without richie...just some backing musicians.

I miss Richie as much as the next person does but no way do they sound like a cover band, you've got to be kidding me with that comment. Pisses me off that Phil doesn't get the respect he deserves.

I partially agree. I feel that all the demand from people wanting Richie back is based upon performances of over 10 years ago or just based upon a gut feeling saying "it doesn't sound the same" while it's only the visual that's different to them. Phil's tone is much closer to Richie's tone from the early 00's than Richie's own sound is nowadays, it's only the build ups in the guitar solo's that's not good as the ones for Richie, probably because Phil has "only" played most of the stuff live for just a year and is not as familiar with the band like Richie, and in fact we are.

Richie's last truly great tour was in 2003, when he could still properly improvise and was actually willing to show off. Ever since the Have A Nice Day tour Richie has more or less sucked as a guitarist because, with the odd exception here and there, Richie has been on autopilot as much as Jon has the last few years. His tone only got a little bit better since the Lost Highway tour, but was back to being terrible on The Circle tour, albeit the odd song played on a Fender or Gibson. If he'd just drop that ESP and effects rig and would go back to just plugging in his Fender and Gibsons into his regular amps, chances are his signature sound would come back as well.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

nikos greece 07-27-2013 05:30 PM

no disrespect t the other members of the band , its just that you cant simply replace the guy who co wrote almost every hit...you are so wrong about the visual...we can hear the difference and every little mistake phil x and bobby make in almost every song....richie may not be the guitarist he once was but still is great imo...
and what is all that frenzy about phil x? the guy seems like a nice guy, he is a decent guitarist and is paid lots of money to go out there and build up his name and reputation. he is not doing it for free and there are hundreds of guys out there who could do the same, even better...
imo its sad when people listen to the band now and listen no difference...the bj sound they fell in love once had richie in it, now not only its different its inferior as well

Really, 100%? So the other members, including Jon, wrote and arranged 0% of Bon Jovi songs?

That could be the most ridiculous thing i've read on this board ever

nikos greece 07-27-2013 06:29 PM

it would sound like a cover band if anyone was missing, from jon to david...
when jon said richie is replaceable not like the edge(god forbid)...that very moment he betrayed the whole concept of the band and the brotherhood...i know we have extensively discussed it but i believe this comment alone made every richie fail look minor in comparison to that statement...and in that case richie was the bigger man cause he didnt fuel/continue the controversy like he could...

Supposedly Jon's words were taken out of context. What I read (and I am fully aware it could be incorrect) was that the Edge's daughter was ill and they chose to cancel the shows until the Edge was able to come back. Jon was trying to say that this situation was not one that Richie had to leave because his daughter was ill. Were his words really taken out of context, who the hell knows.

rightsideofwrong 07-27-2013 07:29 PM

Amen, living in sin, loves the only rule, I'll be there for you, what's left of me, this ain't a love song, blood on blood, dry county, in these arms, radio, I'd die for you ... Just a few songs off the top of my head that have been played this tour and should be included in tonight's show to mix things up instead of showing them the exact same snoozer main set he played 2 days prior.

I've come to the conclusion that these people never appreciated what the band used to sound like. They were there for different reasons than some of us. Their opinion means nothing to me.

Even with Richie the band hasn't sounded like "the band" for at least a decade now. Once Bobby was added to the lineup and Richie seriously changing his sound in 2005/2006 the typical Bon Jovi sound was mostly gone. There's only glimpses of it now and then but Richie's not the reason why the band doesn't sound like Bon Jovi anymore.

I have started threads about this - such as "What has happened to Richie's guitar tone"? When he was playing his own brand of guitars the tone changed dramatically. I really complained about Bed of Roses - that guitar used to come in, in the beginning and cut the night air like a sharp knife. And yes 2003 is probably the last time I heard that. He did come back to using a Gibson rather infrequently. When I saw that Phil had a Gibson for Bed of Roses last night I cheered - and it sounded wonderful. My comment was that it sounded like Richie USED TO sound. This is not a matter of disrespect or of how quickly our idols have fallen. The damn guitar sounds better and it was Richie that used to play it like that. He doesn't anymore.

And a corrollary here is that whoever the front of house sound engineer (mixer) is should be shot (or at least replaced). The sound where I was sitting Thursday night was terrible. For a while Hugh was so high in the mix all I heard was bass. Half the time Jon's vocals were drowned out (maybe intentionally) and the entire show was boomy and bass heavy. I know making things sound good in a stadium can be difficult, but I heard reports from all over saying that the sound was awful. That also used to be one of my pleasures going to a Bon Jovi show. Their sound was pristine. This was not.

Phil X‏@TheRealPhilX2h
night 2 at MetLife Stadium tonight. Thursday night was KILLER! what a crowd. I got a feeling tonight's gonna get CRAZY!

PhilX's latest about tonight. At least the Richies here hasn't hit this thread yet. Hope it is great for all going.
Keep hearing about how sound is not same as prior, Jon's voice ... = getting older, fact of life even with trainers, coaches... None of the older greats sound the same to me. Still stronger than most of the young stuff out there. My fav. Richie sound: http://youtu.be/8-R4cRthxhA

nikos greece 07-27-2013 09:39 PM

i agree that the mix could be much better...there is no cruntch in the sound, the general volume is average to low, jons acoustic guitar is unnaturally high in the mix and generally sth is missing ...
richies guitar tone has change, he uses all these stompboxes, effects and amps and still it sounds quite the same and muddy, phill x tone is more rough, under modulated. when we talk about the guitar sound its off course subjective but imo the tone is the player, the feeling/timing and the fingers as well...remember some promo shows for the gh in 2011 when all of a sudden richie was higher in the mix and most of us were ecstatic about how rockier/raw it sounded???
