Official October 25, 2013-Uncasville, CT- Mohegan Sun Thread

Bon Jovi will be at Mohegan Sun tomorrow and I will be there. This is the rescheduled show from 2/9, because of the snow storm. That was supposed to be the tour opener, but instead a free show was played for those that could make it, I was there that night also. This was the setlist from 2/9:

1. You Give Love a Bad Name
2. Lost Highway
3. Whole Lot of Leavin'
4. That's What the Water Made Me
5. Because We Can
6. Wild Is the Wind
7. It's My Life
8. What About Now
9. When We Were Beautiful
10. We Got It Goin' On
11. Keep the Faith
12. Amen
13. The Fighter
14. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night (Acoustic)
15. Army of One
16. We Weren't Born to Follow
17. What's Left of Me
18. Wanted Dead or Alive
19. Who Says You Can't Go Home
20. Captain Crash & the Beauty Queen From Mars
21. Livin' on a Prayer

Mohegan usually gets shorter shows anyways due to casino restrictions, but the last official tour stop in Uncasville came in May 2011 with Phil X, but the March 4, 2011 set was very unusual with many rarities including Hey God, Thorn in My Side, I Got the Girl, Wild in the Streets, Living in Sin, the first acoustic Superman, and all the hits were played in a row at the end of the main set.

Phil X and his wife had their baby today and no news has come out whether or not he will be there. My expectations are low but I would not be shocked if we get a semi-rarity since Mohegan usually always gets something interesting.

GabrielC 10-25-2013 03:13 AM

Oh my god, I forgot how awful the setlists from the start of the tour were.

I caved like the wussy I am and bought tickets on ebay. Screw it. It's Friday night. If nothing else, I'll have a fun night out at the casino having dinner, losing some money and getting drunk with a buddy. My expectations are nil for the show, so it can't possibly disappoint me.

I refuse to allow any set with Wild is the Wind in it be called awful. :p I'd take this set over any over the last couple of weeks.

Dang, Dan, I wish you would have told me you were thinking about going. I had a ticket in Section 14, Row H that I would have just given to you. I'm still in my "immobilization" brace for a few more weeks so I can't make the show as I can't drive, sit or well, just about do much of anything..lol!!

Eh, that's OK. Thanks for thinking of me. I wanted to go with a buddy of mine anyways, so I had to find 2 tickets.

Now of course, if the tickets I bought off of ebay don't show up today, I could be in some trouble.

You are funny. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a night out at a Bon Jovi show, even though they're not playing the '95 Wembley set list.

Yeah but people around here these days act like they'd have more fun going to the dentists.

Yeah, that's because, shock, horror, more and more people over here aren't like someone like you, who seems to think that a poor Bon Jovi show is still a good night out. There's not been any show played in America that have made me rather wanted to be in the venue as opposed to just sit at home and watch TV. And this tour is been consisting of nothing but poor Bon Jovi shows, minus about 5 shows, really. Autopilot, poor vocals and dreadful setlists. If you can't detect the first one, don't hear the second one and don't care for the last one, then yeah, I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Any night out to me is better than a night in with the TV. I can go and enjoy a night with local bands who are nowhere near the level of Bon Jovi, so it's nonsensical that I wouldn't enjoy a night with a band who, whilst currently nowhere near at their best - and I would never disagree with that - are still pretty ****ing good.

And this whole setlist argument - the songs their playing are the songs I fell in love with. I don't get tired listening to them on a record, so why I'd get tired listening them to the few times I get to hear them live every couple of years - also makes no sense.

There you go, and I agree. I'm off to the show myself. I desperately wanted to go to the first show - not because it was the first show but because I had open heart surgery less than 5 weeks previously and I was just glad to be alive. Even my surgeon said I could go and then the show was cancelled :( So I am going to enjoy this one no matter what. We are going to see some people we know and probably eat too much and drink too much and then have an evening of music. It's all good. :D

And Deb - I am sorry that you can't make it but keep looking at the positive. Once that brace comes off you will feel much better.

It does when the entire set is played on auto pilot and is filled up with songs you absolutely don't care for, and the ones you do care for sound dreadful live. Then that setlist argument suddenly makes a lot of sense, and it's the reason why most of my friends who still went to see the band 10 years ago no longer give a shit. But again, if you can't detect auto pilot and don't hear how off key Jon is nowadays, I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Why is it this feels like high school, when liking Bon Jovi just wasn't cool. Except I'm on a Bon Jovi board.

You only comment on something these days when you're trying to make out that somehow those who still enjoy the band are some sort of suckers or musical retards who can't tell the difference between a good show and a bad. It's some sort of superior elitist bullshit. You're in danger of sounding like a cantankerous old man.

I wasn't the one who started the "Yeah but for some it seems like they like the dentist more" thing. You've repeated that thing several times, albeit in different words, and I don't think I've replied to you like the way I did just now simply because I felt it wasn't worth the hassle.

Your words are making it sound like those that are critical of the band shouldn't be posting here simply because you, apparantly, don't see auto pilot or hear the off key kind of things others do. Which is fine, like I said. If you don't, you'll probably have a blast. You're not the only one, they're still selling 15.000-35.000 tickets on a nightly basis, and yes, most can't tell a good show from a bad show either. It's why Bon Jovi, and in fact plenty of other acts, still sell a lot of tickets.

However though, I do hear and see it. It's what made me sell most of my tickets and cancel almost all my plans for this tour. Your comment in regards to the dentist is what makes me respond, because I feel like defending my point of view. You don't seem to understand how someone could not enjoy any Bon Jovi show, whereas I don't understand how anyone could still enjoy any (American) Bon Jovi show. I offer my point of view, you offer bitching about my point of view as opposed to counter points. Yeah, that puts us back in high school.

I don't think I've ever really bitched about you personally, because you do seem to enjoy the shows, and it is what it is really. I don't get it, I'll never get it, but it's fine by me. Once you start ridiculing me indirectly for not liking the same things you do, you're kind of on thin ice, that's pretty much how Jovitalk has always worked, or any message board really. But judging from what most people on Jovitalk are saying owadays, and the impopularity in regards to the PBP's nowadays I no longer seem to be the only one here. Which is much to my surprise, really, because that's never been how Jovitalk has worked.

Kathleen, I'm currently wearing a heart monitor for a month as the Dr. suspects an issue. I'm hoping nothing serious shows up much less something requiring surgery. So glad that you are doing well and are going to the show. Have an amazing time tonight, celebrate life, good music, great friends, and create some lifelong memories. I'll be there with you, in spirit.

Deb, wishing you a speedy recovery...

No personal bitching at all, Seb. But saying "I" hear these things and "you can't" comes across as very condescending when I can hear exactly the same things you do, so that pushed my buttons the wrong way. I don't understand how someone can just stand at a show and not sing, dance, but I've seen people do it. Maybe that's where the difference is.

But I stand by what I've said and you're right I've said it a few times. But when it becomes wrong to like Bon Jovi on a Jovi board, then maybe it's time I left, not you.

I really don't get why anyone "needs" to leave at all. It's a difference of opinion, which anyone is allowed to have. I enjoy reading most of Seb's opinions on Jovi shows, Jon's voice and such, I may not agree with a lot of them but it provides a different perspective. But for someone who still enjoys what the band is doing (maybe not as much as before but I do still enjoy it) and someone who would love to see one of these American shows with Phil, I like reading opinions that relate to my way of thought too.....

I came to Jovitalk to vent and rant about the band. Now it's just morbid curiosity and some odd thread here and there.

But be honest, you want to see how low they can fall right? :D

So far I've heard Radio has been played.

EDIT: And he screwed up the lyrics to Because We Can.

Sissy3 10-26-2013 05:13 AM

For anyone who may care this is what's posted on Backstage so far. Apparently some of them are getting texts from friends at the show. I removed multiple exclamation points and all caps. The op was a little excited. LOL :D

1. Lost Highway
2. That's What The Water Made Me
3. You Give Love A Bad Name
4. Born To Be My Baby
5. Radio Saved My Life
6. Superman Tonight
7. It's My Life
8. Because We Can
9. What About Now
10. Captain Crash
11. Keep The Faith
-------------------------------------
On the circle:

12. Bed of Roses
13. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night
14. Thick As Thieves
15. (You Want To) Make A Memory

-------------------------------------
16. Army of One
17. We Weren' t Born To Follow
18. Who Says You Can't Go Home
19. Bad Medicine w/Pretty Woman
20. Sleep when I'm dead

Encore:
21. Wanted Dead Or Alive
22. Livin' On A Prayer

Show over

Javier 10-26-2013 06:33 AM

Phil and Takumi under the stage during I presume Thick as Thieves, dude still has hospital tag on, probably rushed by private jet from point A to point B and then back to point A again....

I got this from twitter:

"I should have known when it started snowing." - JBJ while he was talking about the tour.

bonjovi90 10-26-2013 09:56 AM

The official setlist listed I'd Die For You after Army of One and Have A Nice Day as the song to open the encore. Both were probably dropped due to the strict curfew of the Mohegan Sun Casino. Audibles (all unused) were BOB, IBTFY, DC and Just Older.

Shocking encore which is a shame as there are some changes to the main set. It ain't that hard to put a decent encore together...

Dry county
Wanted dead or alive
Have a nice day
Livin' on a prayer

Blood on blood

These are all songs that they have played and make a far better encore.

Doesn't really matter. In the Mohegan Sun the band is given a 2 hour time slot to play, if they start earlier they'll have to finish earlier as well. Just look up the history of the band playing there, they've always been shorter shows than usual, with 1 exception during the Lost Highway tour, I think.

Nice changes. Big fan of both 'Superman Tonight' and 'Army of one.'

Just a shame that even when new changes are made, Jon still uses his acoustic.

I was there last night, i will post a full review later, but I can confirm the comment "I should've known when it started snowing.". Jon said something like that, I can't remember the exact words. Show was good, came to an abrupt ending though. I expected more out of the encore, but I think that was a curfew issue. They were late onstage by about 15 minutes, the "Showtime in 1 minute" thing flashed on the screen then it took about 15 minutes for them to come on. JBJ did say that there would be some surprises, but I think the strict curfew made them cut out I'd die for You, HAND, and any chances of an audible getting played.

They would have been but someone threw up in the pit right before they were going to go on and the start was delayed because they had to clean it up.

If they were late and Jon wanted surprises he could have dropped a couple of songs off the main set (CC, MAM, WSWCGH) and fitted in the surprises (and HAND).
