New Arena Show Announced for Sydney

1 Attachment(s)
Announced only 4 weeks before it's taking place. Must be some kind of a record.

I was expecting it to be Allphones Arena.....

The first show is at Anz - capacity of 83K - the encore is 21K. I found reviews of the second venue and doesn't rate well?? Purhaps some from the area could let us know the real deal. I guess, since they are there anyway. Why not? Curious to know what those in Sydney have to say and which show they would go to. Or Both now? I personally have always liked a smaller venue even knowing may not get the "big" show.

At this moment I could have been on the road to Raleigh, missing RS plus my check book not only said no, it said H no. Looking forward to someone posting about tonight. Still kinda melancholy.

Those reviews are of AllPhones Arena which is next to ANZ Stadium where they are playing.

They're not playing there, they're playing here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_...ainment_Centre

Capacity 13, 250.

I don't think I'll go. I can't really bring myself to see two shows on a tour without RS. Phil is a great player, but he doesn't know nearly as many songs and setlists are limited.

I really, really struggle to understand why people think it's because of Phil that the setlists are limited. It is not. At all. Phil can learn any of Bon Jovi's songs in probably a half hour or less. If he could learn a whole 20-something song setlist + more in less than a week, which includes more complicated songs like Keep The Faith and Lay Your Hands On Me, he can learn any song. It ain't Phil. It's Jon's laziness.

This.
They played two identical sets in New Jersey, and Phil knows a lot of songs that could have been played to change the sets (I'd die for You, In These Arms, ...) ...

This! The Cologne show how much diversified the setlists can be even with Phil X around!!!

Sydney Entertainment Center is a great venue, I've seen a few bands there including Crowded House and Steely Dan. Really great atmosphere both times, and I'm keen on the fact that it's a tiny venue compared to ANZ Stadium. I know that it is probably highly unlikely that the sets will be that different, or that they will be anywhere near as good as the shows in 2010. But Jon did say in London that they had something special in store for Sydney and it will be the second last night of the tour so I'm pumped and definitely going!!

I'll be happy if I get to hear Always, Bed of Roses or Diamond Ring. Three songs that I thought were definitely going to be played last time but weren't.

I agree it's probably because JBJ doesn't bother to ask him to learn new stuff - but with a month of the tour left, he's hardly going to start now, is he?

So yes, it is because of the absence of Richie and the presence of Phil that setlists are limited.

No chance of Richie taking lead vocals for a song is another example of a setlist limitation.

It's also the excuse that JBJ peddles.

At the London Fan Club Q&A he had various song requests and he said "Maybe if Richie were here, but Phil is probably locked in his room up the stairs afraid I will ask him to learn yet another song".

Yeah, which is him pretty much kicking the ball in Phil's court, making it look like Phil is always in his hotel room learning songs. He's not. About 90% of what's been released after These Days is piss easy to play for someone like Phil. Chances are he's busier remembering the actual song than remembering how to play the song itself.

But besides that, what efpg0708 pointed out is that there's a catalog of songs Phil X can already play, yet Jon doesn't put in the set simply because Jon's a lazy ****er completely uninterested into mixing up the setlists nowadays as his focus is too much on the supposed perfection there's supposed to be on stage while the biggest failure every night is himself. And yes, I know that's harsh, but we all know it's true.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
