Yup - awesome and nice to hear. The audience seemed to like it too.

Just amazing! Like him or not, he brings a new fresh note to the rest middle-aged band. Awesome performance!

I think Phil X is only 4-5 years younger than Jon. His being a rocker makes him seem younger.

Jayster 12-05-2013 01:57 AM

That does inject a certain energy into the evening.

Why think when you have the internet?

He is almost exactly 4 years younger than Jon. Which means that Phil X is older now than JBJ was on the Lost Highway Tour.

Interesting that they are now showing quite a bit of Phil X on the big screen. Remember how right after Richie's departure, Phil was sort of kept in the shadows? I'm glad to see the change. He deserves a little attention.

Sissy3 12-05-2013 06:54 AM

I wonder how many Richie fans imploded after seeing that video? :D

Sure makes a difference when someone that's still is able to sing belt out a song. Jon is simply awful at singing these days. Put the band to rest.

Lisa71 12-05-2013 01:12 PM

A closer view of Phil singing AC/DC. Jon does his impression of Angus Young.

Alphavictim 12-05-2013 02:19 PM

Phil X wasn't exactly a fan of BJ before he joined the band, and I doubt anybody here'd claim he is anything but a hired hand. But like the guy or not, I think it's a display of great treatment of employees on Jon's part. Which makes the Hugh situation all the more bizarre.

For some reason this has made me like Phil more. Great vocal performance, if Richie doesn't want to come back and Jon wants to keep churning out albums quickly i'd accept Phil X in the lineup so long as they aim for a rock record. I think Phil would suit a louder, guitar driven Bon Jovi sound.

That could be intresting, i agree.

I wonder what Phil would answer if Jon ask him to stand for permanent replacement. Probably he would say yes, but he already has the Drills...

SadieLady 12-05-2013 05:36 PM

I love that Dave and Phil X got a highlighted moment on stage. That is the way it should be for a *band*. On another thread during the Circle tour I had commented that I wished Jon would stay on stage during Richie's solo song (usually IBTFY) to show his support--maybe then it wouldn't just be a bathroom break for lots of Jon fans.

I am cynical enough to wonder if Jon was being generous or if he knew he had to save his voice so he let Dave and Phil X have these moments. Except for letting Dave sing a rare verse of ITA--and usually with Dave's mike so low you had trouble hearing him fully, I don't recall Dave getting any significant solo time.

DaveK 12-05-2013 08:40 PM

didnt even bother to do Tokyo Road in Tokyo. oh wait i remember jon hates that album

Supersonic 12-05-2013 10:26 PM

Aloha !

When not a Bon Jovi song, but a song done by Bon Jovi but sang by the replacement guitarist becomes the highlight of a show you should kind of realize you're in trouble as a band.

These 2 shows in Japan were just tryouts for Australia, especially the AC/DC part. Just warming up shows for the big shows out there. Which actually means it's just more of the same, but with one or two shows with slightly better vocals than everything else.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Not that I disagree...but there were many many many many moments before that should have made them realise they are in trouble as a band.

Having said that - even if it was cool, energy was at snoozfest levels....

Shook Me All Night will go down very well in front of 65 000 Melbournian's and 85 000 Sydney Siders though.
