Why aren't Desmond Child and/or Billy Falcon made official members of the band? Desmond Child in particular, just about every song they write together becomes a hit. Why not bring them on officially and collaborate more frequently?

Instead they have Hugh and another guitarist in the band, who aren't credited as members. Seems odd to me. It's not like Desmond and Billy are just song writers, they're both musicians in their own right, and Desmond has a great voice.

I know it's a weird question, but it's something that bugs me from time to time.

Becasue they are not BAND member musicians. They are outside song writers who only contribute to a certain aspect of the final product. Why not include the engineer and producer too. Obbie and Shanks should be band members based on your theory too.

This is kind of a rhetorical question because almost all artist use outside songwriters. The real question is, why isn't George Martin a Beatle?

In a word, $$$$$$$.

As a condition of joining BJ, Falcon and Child would probably have to give up writing for anyone else, which I doubt they would like. And it would cut down on the band's share of the profits -- which, since songwriters don't compose, record or perform the songs, I doubt THEY would like.

Makes sense, I imagine most things do come down to money. But idk. Desmond and Falcon don't record with the band, but they could and I imagine they would if they were full fledged members. The rest of the band would have to accept a smaller cut, but if Desmond could help them produce more hits, they'd be accepting a smaller price of a bigger pie. (And I'm really thinking more of Desmond here, since he's helped write their bigger hits)

I also wonder if they'd be respected more as a band of these guys were official members, instead of the band having to rely on professional song writers.

I've thought maybe They don't want to be a part of the band, but then I think, who wouldn't want to be in Bon Jovi. Lol.

Are you aware what Desmond Child looks like and how much money he makes writing songs for other artists? I think neither the housewife demographic would care for him (ie. the band would not make more money) nor would he particularly like giving up being a full-time producer in order to be a touring musician.

And didn't somebody on here mention that Billy Falcon is actually a widower? No idea how many kids he has, I know he has one daughter.

Desmond looks like a band musician to me. He looks a little more like a pop star than a rock star to me, but whatever. He's got a better look than Hugh in my opinion. Desmond might look like a middle aged pop star, but Hugh looks like a middle aged accountant.

And yeah, maybe Desmond wouldn't want to, but maybe he does. He's done the band thing before, who's to say he doesn't still have the itch for it? And who's to say he couldn't continue producing on the side, the other members have side projects. I think it's more likely that Jon doesn't want to add more band members and just hasn't asked them to join.

Also, idk how much a producer makes, but a touring member of Bon Jovi isn't exactly making chump change. Richie was reportedly making 2 million per show plus a share of profits. And I don't know how steady Desmond's producing gigs are, but there were over 100 shows on the last BJ tour. It's my understanding that steady gigs like that are very attractive to people in the entertainment business.

Are you trolling or was that a serious question?

Captain_jovi 01-02-2014 05:18 AM

Desmond would make way way way way way way way more money writing and producing hits than joining the band.

It's not something I could forsee ever happening for numerous reasons. Billy Falcon isn't the type of player that could play in the band either. You can be a musician but it doesn't mean you can tour with a band. Just ain't going to happen.

Desmond's net worth is more than double Richie's. Why in the world would he (especially at his age) give up countless jobs and massive income to work only with Bon Jovi?
