January 11th, 2014, Richie Sambora & Orianthi, Musicians Institute Hollywood, CA

As requested in the other thread about Richie not being on tour anymore, here are some amazing perfomances from Richie with Orianthi a few days ago in L.A..

To all the moaners, I am not interested in reading your opinions about who did what to whom in the BJ camp. Let's enjoy the fact that, every now and then, Richie's still got it. Critical insights and comments regarding this particular show are more than welcome.

Aloha !

I think the reason Richie's better than usual here is because he has the risk of looking like a has-been among Oranthi. He needs to get out of his comfort zone for this, which makes him a better guitarist. The same happened when he was jamming a few years ago with 2 very good acoustic guitar players. He suddenly showed he does remember how to play, he just doesn't do it often enough which makes him rusty.

Sebastiaan

Strangely... I agree with you.

cheers for this one. Orianthi is a great player. Seen her live with Alice Cooper about 2 years ago and was like 'who the hell is she'? Was mightily impressed.

Now I see her on stage with Richie...and it just makes it more evident what an accomplished player and overall musician Sambora is....

Is it like a totally sexist thing to say that I am falling in love with Orianthi?
I LUB HER

Not at all :D Same happened to me when I saw her live. Was like 'who the **** is this?!?' and 'Would you go out with me please!?'

Don't mean to derail this given I suggested having a separate topic in the first place - but I have a total crush on this woman here. Someone sent me this link and ever since I just can't stop listening to it. When she goes into the bridge before the chorus - it's like mountains are crumbling and falling to pieces...

Right...back to Sambora. I love the outros where Orianthi starts and then he takes over and finishes things off. So much class. And everyone knows Wanted is my favourite song of all time. I was so tired of the Bon Jovi version. Now this comes along and Richie bursts into that solo and I get goose bumps all over...

She is the opposite of Nikki Lund. Richie seems to be in the right direction. I also love Orianthi.

I can't see the point of having Orianthi there. Why can't Richie do it on his own with just a rhythm guitarst? This looks like a father playing with his daughter who has zero stagepresence

I'd say look into Orianthi a bit. She was asked to play for Michael Jackson's O2 residency exactly because of her stage presence and skills. And as a guitarist it's a lot more fun to play with a capable guitarist than with one who only seems to be capable of remembering chords and signature riffs cough cough Bandiera.
