Richie & disputes with Jon since 1990

New article about Richie Sambora, and disputes with Jon since 1990.

http://destroyerofharmony.wordpress....ichie-sambora/

Interesting this part:

“At the time Blaze Of Glory hit and things started to go good, Jon said he didn’t really know if he wanted to go on with the band again … not saying he didn’t wanna do it ever again but he wasn’t sure. That kind of left me in a difficult position because I didn’t have a record contract and I didn’t have a contract with Bon Jovi. For years I dedicated myself to that band and for three and a half years record companies were comin’ to me with all this money to do my own record and I would say, ‘No, I’m with a band.’ There was no time, so why load myself up with more responsibility than I can handle?”

Even back in 1991, everything Bon Jovi related was done on Jon Bon Jovi’s timetable. Sambora’s departure from the “Because We Can” tour goes back to the overdose of Jon Bon Jovi’s daughter in December 2012. When that happened Jon was in a different country. God forbid that if something really bad happened he would have been too late. This was Richie’s wake up call.

“There are times you really don’t know what day it is, let alone what time it is. It’s not bullshit it’s true. So my disagreements with Jon came in that light, i said, ‘Man, look, the money ain’t worth the f_kin’ time I need to get my head together. I’m drinking too much, f_king around to much.’ I was just outta control, I was becoming the very thing that you’re meant to be in that position anyway…”

Thoughts?

Frigging great and open interview, thanks for posting this. Really raw.

Hello there ! Been coming here from a few months and did not registered so far though there were already some threads I would have been intererested in participating but did not. Now I really thought it was time to as I have read the article you posted and one information makes me wonder.... and it is one of the elements you have stressed on : when that thing with jon's daughter occurred, I thought I did read he was somewhere, in the US, in California maybe if I remember it well. Therefore, even if it is not the place just at the corner, he was not abroad as it is mentioned there.... if I got it wrong, then ok, but if indeed he was in the US and not abroad, that shows once again that press is always trying to impact on people opinion by writing what they want, true or not..... that article is clearly pro richie against jon, all facts given are on that same level. It is just sad, boring, disappointing not to have real facts so that we can make our own decision, our own opinion. When you read contradictory information from an article to another, it is clear that press is trying to influence you or just do not have true elements to write and thus they invent anything to sell. That all battle between both men supporters is just so childish. Maybe some day their behaviour will appear as childish as that fan boards litterature .....but then what I read in that article makes me boil inside....
Then if I should trust what are reported as richie's words, he waited for 30 years, he swallowed his doubts, his unsatisfaction for 30 years ... poor little humble guy, who does not pay attention to what golden things all that money can bring him, who never wears expensive things, who always kept his private life away from the public eye, who has sacrified himself by refusing wonderful opportunities to let his boss shine ..... so pathetic ! I do hope this is all press bullshit, I do really hope my guitar god richie has not said all that shit... they probably argued, but in a more grown up way I hope....

No matter where was Jon, that's irrelevant in my opinion. Jon is "the man more busy of the planet". When he is not touring, he has other pending matters like charity, sandy hurricane, promo singles, movies, fragrances....... Not saying it's a bad parent, but let's not be naive, we all know that he does not devote much time to his family. In other words, Jon devotes too much time to business.

A bit harsh there Rolo, at the end of the day, whatever one it is that he is doing he is "at work". We are all at work, and some people away from their families in different towns or countries. That his family is able to live the live that they do is down to the work that he does. That he was away was bad luck. I'm surprised it didn't lead him to consider slowing things up a bit, although that was around the time just before the release of BWC if I recall so the wheels for that project for him would have been in motion so maybe it will do now given that Richie's decision may have forced him into it.

From that interview it could well be that things are broadly the same, Richie being the free-spirit type character who needs to be co-erced by Jon to fit into the band dynamic. But Jon the boss wasn't able to this time. Although, as with all interviews clearly some pinches of salt need to be taken with regards to how both Jon & Richie view themselves.

Interesting nonetheless, thanks for the link.

I don't get how this can be interpreted as a 30 years dissatisfaction.
It's about him talking about 2 back to back 16 month touring and how he got sick of it.
It's about his life, his physical and mental health.
It's about money and fame is no longer worthwhile when you have to sacrifice that much happiness and health in your life.

And why do you think they re-paced themselves in the 90s if other members were all so satisfied from such intensive and extensive touring....
Even Jon might have the same problem back then.

Overwork causes a lot of stress. They've been so long on the road, making records .... have neglected the most important, loved ones, family.

Jon enjoys the privilege that many workers do not have. he can afford to have several sabbatical years dedicating for his family. Other artists done, but Jon is a workaholic, sometimes I question your happiness with family. the people around you is also important.

I haven't read the article so I have no comment on it, but I'm 99% sure Jon was in Philadelphia when Stephanie OD'd so he wasn't that far from her.

dumy 02-04-2014 02:05 AM

It was Philadelphia or Las Vegas

SadieLady 02-04-2014 04:12 AM

Jon was in Vegas at a corporate gig. He got the phone call in his hotel room later that night and flew home. No one wants to be separated from family when something bad happens. He was in Europe when Hurricane Sandy hit and his family had to evacuate from their penthouse which was in a section of NYC that had lost power to NYC hotel. Richie was in California when Hurricane Sandy hit and destroyed his mother's house. Richie was also in New Jersey with Jon when 9/11 happened. Dave was on tour when his dad died and he had to wait 3 days for a break before he could attend the funeral.

Jon has long credited Dorothea for taking care of family which allows him to do what he does. In today's technology it is easy to keep in touch and when he is not touring, he is there for his family. They also periodically show up on the road with him. Richie has a whole different scenario: divorced, one child who is in her mid-teens and will soon be out of the house and living her own life. For him, family time is precious and all the money he would have received on tour didn't balance out being away from his daughter. As he had previously said, touring the world when you are in your 20s and 30s is one thing, but in your 50s it is another--it is just not as thrilling and adventurous going around the world for the umpteenth time. The 3 hours on stage leaves 21 hours to fill.
