Is anyone in Mensa?

If so, what exactly do you DO at the meetings? I'm thinking of joining, but I don't want to waste the money if the only thing you get out of is the ability to say, "Hey, I'm in Mensa."

i've never joined officially but I love taking the tests. I don't think its anything more that just a newsletter and access to more tests. I could be wrong though.

I was a member of Mensa UK from 1999-2001. They didn't really have meetings to discuss intellectual topics. Maybe a few members who lived in the same are would get together for drinks, but that was about it. I got a magazine every month which had the occasional interesting article like 'Are there aliens living inside mars?' (They present evidence)

p.s. The actual entry tests are a lot harder than the sample tests.

Hmmm... sounds like there's not much to it other than the affiliation. If I understand correctly you can use previous IQ or test scores if you can get a valid report. I haven't looked at any of the practice tests yet. I like a challenge and I actually enjoy tests. LOL I know... I'm a little "different." But, so is Ray. Hee hee. ;) Thanks for the info!!

Then I'm "different" too. I also love all kinds of test (especially mathematical  ). I never joined the Mensa, although I could have because I thought there were only old people talking about things that I don't know everything about! But I've understood that we have some meetings here. I know a girl who is in Mensa and she said she had joined because that gives a better possibility to get a job!

I already noticed in another thread that there are very well educated people here but it's good to see we're also intelligent!! :D

Proud to be "different". You should've seen looks I got in high school when I was the long haired rocker performing in clubs AND winning the regional chess championship.

I know exactly what you mean... I was the smart, sweet girl who always wore the black leather jacket and went to every rock show that came to town and had a rock band. To top it off, I was at a snobby academy. When someone like me is branded "the rebel" you know it's a pretty elitist group to begin with.
