Listen Take Me, it's worth it.

I like the E.P. Nobody can take that away from me ;)

It's not rock, it's not BJ, it's not 'classic' Sambora. Am I bothered? No. I'm I happy they've released it? Hell yeah :) Can I wait for more releases? No!!!

Take Me is strong - lyrics subtly deep...

“Take Me” seems very autobiographical

Richie: Absolutely

Was that one a hard one to write?

Richie: No, that one came flying out of my mouth. It was wild! It really did cause it came flying out of my heart and actually an interesting story too because I woke up one morning and I sat down at the piano and that chorus, I recorded it with the iPhone. Bob started putting the track together and that vocal is from the iPhone, that chorus vocal. Not the verses, cause I didn’t write that till later. We put the track together and you know what, that song kind of came out almost like on the fly. It’s the story of my life in a way, in a lot of different aspects. There is a lot of stuff I went through and there are a lot of things, I guess, I needed to get off my chest and I did. I like that song a lot. I think people will be happy with that.

I see it as a kind of response to LWTG but could have been written earlier, too.

It is not the first time Richie opens his heart this way. In Aftermath there are a couple of these songs too. You Can Only Get So High comes to mind.

When you write, nothing's random. Be it a diary, a poem, a story or a song. You always leave some traces of your own life in it. The thing is how much stays for everyone to see. Sometimes it's so brutally autobiographical it's sick but this is how it works. I won't write about something that doesn't touch me in any way.

Richie: Yeah, the concept of “Masterpiece” is a very interesting way to say, I love you, I need you; “I’m going to paint you mine, my masterpiece.” In other words, you’re going to live your life in love, you’re going to live your life that way.
Soo it's looks like Richie could have big impact in lyrics of few first singles post 2000+ He looks like a fan of thats lyrics ;D

Well he co-wrote them with Jon, i don't see anything too surprising. He's just as guilty as life, fly, die, try, spread your wings lyrics. Rise is one big bumper sticker. Great melody but just a snoozefest of positive cliches.

If 'painting a masterpiece' vel "expressing love in a poetic way' is Richie's idea, then there are a few songs that contain this phrase like those ones:

Letter to a Friend
"I'll be there when you paint your masterpiece"

Story of my Life
"And when I paint my masterpiece I swear I'll show you first "

Pictures of You
"I feel just like Picasso
And you're my masterpiece
I painted you a lifetime
Now what's left are memories, oh…"

BJ only performed SOML live and what's interesting, Jon always came close to Richie while singing this part. That must have been some sort of acknowledging him, then :3
