ANOTHER TRIUMPH, BY JOVI
By DAN AQUILANTE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Bon Jovi in concert. - Anthony J. Causi February 12, 2003 -- SEEING Bon Jovi play the Meadowlands in front of a home-grown Jersey crowd is like relishing a Nathan's hot dog at Coney Island: The place suits the purpose. http://www.nypost.com/photos/web02120340.jpg Monday's show, the first of a two-night, sold-out engagement at the arena, was the second leg of the band's world tour supporting the "Bounce" album. Since the band played the Garden only last fall, you wouldn't think the show would change much. You'd be wrong. Bon Jovi remains one of the tightest groups in rock. The biggest switch-up was in the program. Last time around, the show played like a greatest-hits concert with a dribble of "Bounce." At Monday's show, the new songs were a major element. The obvious tunes, like the title track, certainly played large with the crowd - but so did the little songs, like the ballad "Misunderstood," Jon Bon Jovi's musical apology to his wife for being so dumb. Bon Jovi played it smart by getting a new set with clear sight lines, featuring the band playing in front of three very realistic satellite dishes. (Those giant antennas can also be seen on the "Bounce" disc cover.) Despite their presence, those tubular steel structures were unobtrusive - when the 25-foot dishes were tipped and swiveled throughout the two-hour show, they provided some unusual video displays. If you missed these shows, there's still one more engagement set for Giants Stadium, Aug. 6 and 7. Tickets go on sale in a couple of weeks. You heard it here first. |
When did the band play the garden? They have not played the garden in years, expect for the concert for nyc. Misunderstood a "little song"? I don't know if i would consider that a ballad. Seems this writer has his facts confused. :?:
