Soul's On Fire vrs The Soul Truth

Souls On Fire...I always thought this was a well written song that Jon might have had a hand in writing.

His Backing Vocals are radient on the studio version off the Southside Better Days Album. Jon also kills it when he takes a few verses on the live version that him and SSJ do during the Hope Concert show back in '03.... Jon, SSJ, and Bobby are in the zone on that one. Jon really ownes it.

Although Little Steven has the writing credit, one could only assume that Jon was involved. It has a similar feel to a song he did in Red Bank called The Soul Truth. Because the timings were so close, does anyone think Jon help write it or gave up parts? Or tried to steal it for Faith? Or are they not even related?

Opinions?

There's definately similarities between the songs. It's hard to say who borrowed from whom.
Better Days was released in October of '91, the Red Bank show was December 21st '91, but that doesn't prove anything.

Who's playing the sax on the Sole truth?

Never even realized there was a sax. Just went back to listen... very cool.

Who is on piano? Is it Jon? Maybe Dave was playing the sax through his keys?

The sad thing is, I was at all those shows (also both day and night) and have no memory of that song being played but I remember BOR like it was yesterday. (Which is still my favorite live performance to date. He hits different notes / keys that have never been repeated.)

My favorite Jon is '90 / '91 Jon. This was his peak imo. Vocally, loved the Blaze album and what he did with Levon, loved his production on Blood On The Bricks, loved the fact that he did that mini SSJ thing, and I thought it was his best look...oh, he wrote half of the great ones for Faith during that period. I just wish we had the internet back then to enjoy it all in real time. The sad thing is, Jon hated this period.

I could talk about this time period forever. I feel it gets ignored the most becasue people don't discuss the solo albums as much as the band ones. I will admit to being a huge Jon fan back in the day and I also love the DA period too. Another period i love to discuss.

The Soul Truth and SSJs Souls On Fire with JBJs backing vocal is on YT (after second verse....Jons voice is so radient) but the killer performance they did in '03 isn't which is a must hear for any diehard fan. If I was home, I'd put it out there for u.

Unfortunately I'm not home to do so. I'll try to get it to you within the next few days. The quality isn't too bad either.

Please please upload it when you get home.I really love both songs and I really want to see Jon performing that one.
The Sole Truth,I think I'm one of the few people who would've loved to have that as a bonus track or even on the official album.I think Fields of Fire would've been a great replacement for Blame It on The Love of Rock n Roll and The Sole Truth could've been instead of Woman in Love(which I personally think is their worst track on the album),hell I would be very thankful for a version without those girls screaming like someone is choping their hands off :D,but since I don't have a clear version of it I listen to it as it is,and often sing it by myself :))
Since i've heard The Sole Truth I always imagined them performing it during the KTF tour, with the spotlight on Jon who is exhausted and David playing the keyboards...
