Who Will Win The Premier League?

Who do you think will win it?

I'm so nervous and we still have 5 more games! I personally can't see us winning it. I just think we will end up blowing it (probably against a smaller team like Crystal Palace) but I just don't see us doing it. I know we play City on Sunday which I will be going too and cannot wait for, and if we win that then people will start saying that it is ours, but we still have Chelsea to play and they are still in with a very good shout.

I can just see us blowing it against a smaller team, though. Fulham, Sunderland and West Ham have all been close games and they are games we should be putting out of sight in the first half with how we've demolished some big sides. I know it doesn't work that way, though. Some games like that prove that we have the desire to keep going. It's just typical Liverpool to blow it against someone we should beat.

Man City have a very good chance, of course. IF they beat us on Sunday, then I do think it is their title. They have two games in hand as it is so that would be a huge advantage for them.

Chelsea, like I said are in with a shout. Certainly cannot rule them out as much as you could with us. One loss and it is wide open for another team.

I do think it has been the best season for the Prem, though. Not just because of how well we have been doing, but just because of how some of the games have panned out. Huge shockers from the start (City losing to Cardiff) to now (Man Utd's position). Every weekend has something different and that's how it should be.

Everton have looked so strong from the start. If it wasn't for injuries, they would have Europe tied up by now, easily. They looked the team to beat until we demolished them at Anfield. They really did look unstoppable. Will be interesting to see what happens with their loan signings as they have really helped them this year. I seen something earlier saying they would be 8th if it wasn't for their loanees so they really need to get them snapped up. Especially Lukaku. If they get Europe and get the bonus, Lukaku should be the first person they go in for. They still have money from the Fellaini sale if I'm not mistaken.

So surprised with Man Utd this season. I had a feeling they would drop, but certainly not like this. I still can't put my finger on what it is. Is it Moyes as a manager? Is it poor squad morale? Is it because the squad is ageing? Is it all of them things? I really don't know. I think it could be all of these things. The rift between him and Rooney before he was in charge probably put a downer on a few players as I'm sure Rooney wasn't quiet about it. Signing Fellaini for almost £30m was a huge mistake. The man is definitely not worth it. He was just about living up to his £15m price tag that Everton paid for him. It will be very interesting to see how they do after 5 or 6 games next season because if they lose say 2 and draw another 1 or 2, that will be a poor start for any team, let alone Man Utd. Will be very interesting.

Just hope we win on Sunday. I know that we have another 'gathering' to greet the players as they turn up and what not, so hopefully the stadium is in full swing like it was at Spurs. Never been to a game like this before. Closest one I probably went too is last season in Europa League when we got knocked out by Zenit at home. That had a great atmosphere but I'm sure this will be 10x louder and more important.

I've said Liverpool will win it since January. They are playing stunning attacking football and even though their defence can be leaky they just have a "You score one, we'll score one more" attitude which is always refreshing to see. Rodgers has got something very exciting happening at Liverpool and I don't think it's just a good run. It still is Man City's to lose but I reckon they'll drop points in the run in.

Man Utd's decline has been great. I've waited so many years to see the smug smiles wiped off their glory supporting fanbase. I think the problem is with Moyes. What has he ever won? he was successful at grinding out results at Everton, he won nothing with them. Now look what Martinez is doing there. Moyes simply isn't a winner and Man Utd need a very strong charismatic leader. If he went to any other club he would have been sacked by now but Man Utd seem to be sticking with him to save face. I say he'll be gone by next Christmas.

Yeah, that's the determination I'm loving. When we were getting beat by Cardiff, I didn't panic because I had a strong feeling we would get a couple. We ended up getting 5.

True about Moyes but I felt the same with Rodgers. Although, Liverpool hadn't just won the Prem when Rodgers took over so I can 100% see what you mean. It's what I said myself. Moyes did well with the 'little' money he had at Everton (I do think they have more than they say, personally) but Man Utd are a team that NEED to spend. Whether it be £20m a season, they need that to go on a big player. They will always be linked with big players and that is something that Everton (no disrespect to them) haven't been.

Nerves are kicking in more and more.

I think everyone knows deep down that the really big news is Burnley's imminent return to the Premier League...

nickolai 04-12-2014 10:30 AM

As a Villa fan living in the city of Liverpool - working with a lot of Liverpool fans, having a lot of friends that are Liverpool fans I can honestly say the expectation is still low! Fact is that Rodgers should be manager of the season. He's done a cracking job this season. His best signing by far is signing Suarez to a new contract. It seems that his man management is just bringing out the best in the players. Who would have thought Jordan Henderson would be the unsung hero of this season?

I think City will win it with Liverpool finishing 2nd. At the start of the season you would have snapped my hands off to finish 2nd, but to have Champions League football at Anfield again is fantastic. I saw a few Champions League games the season Liverpool got to the final in 2007. I really want Liverpool to win it though. I just think it will be incredible for the city and the atmosphere in town will be unreal.

Ah I think we'll surprise a few people ;)

Bit like this in our win over Man Utd last time we were in the Premiership four years ago

mo_rizwan 04-13-2014 12:55 PM

As an Arsenal Fan, I desperately want Liverpool to win it. I just prefer them over Chelsea & ManCity :)

liljovi93 04-13-2014 08:36 PM

I went to the game today and that atmosphere was simply something else. I got to the ground about 11.30 to be with the fans outside to greet the team when they come in on the bus. I thought that it would be a few thousand fans but it was literally the whole stadium waiting outside for them. Was unbelievable.

Got into the stadium about 12:15 and had such a buzz as soon as I got in. Wasn't many people in their but to see so many flags being brought in and everything else just gave me a buzz.

From kick off we absolutely bossed it. Had so much control and our fans didn't stop singing. Deafening in all honesty. Never heard anything like it and it was just like the old Liverpool. Fantastic to go in 2 goals up and we fully deserved it. We could have been 4 or 5 up if it wasn't for poor finishing (mainly from Coutinho) and then a great save from Hart when Gerrard had the header.

At half time I was saying to an arl fella who was sat next to me that we need to get a third because if they score one, it is wide open and they are back in it. I was right. They got one and they were back in it. We looked pretty poor until they went to 2-2 and then we stepped it back up a bit. Coutinho was simply brilliant. His tackling for such a small guy was faultless. Didn't stop running.

When it was 2-2, I had a feeling we would get another. My girlfriend predicted 3-2 and I said 3-3 before kick off. I just had a feeling we would get a third. Thankfully we did and even though his finishing was poor in the first half, that was a fantastic finish from Coutinho. Didn't even look at the goal, just hit it first time bottom corner. Superb. Celebrations just blew me away.

Sterling is just class. Watched him from the u18's/u21's and loved him then. For his age, he makes such good runs and has a lot of confidence on the ball. I wish he would shoot more as we have a lot of openings for him to do that but he decides not too.

Gerrard's passion speaks for itself. The way he was crying at the end and that talk he gave in the huddle just proves how much he wants this. He hasn't got long left and knows that this could be his last chance because anything can happen next season or the season after that. We deserve to win it and he knows it.

Bit gutted with the Chelsea result as a loss or a draw would have been brilliant. Just hope we beat Norwich now and take it to Anfield against Chelsea. We really need to keep it up. Didn't expect us to be in this position at all.

DevilsSon 04-13-2014 09:02 PM

Nice review. Seems like it was a very special day and well done to Liverpool.
And well done to the team to be in that position. 10 straight wins, that is close to incredible.

Incidentally, I am in Bucharest this weekend and was just walking aimlessly around the city, and got straight to that point from where the picture in your signature is taken. Took out my phone and took a snapshot and it looks pretty damn neat :P so here it goes. Not meaning to hi-jack the thread though. Just saw the signature and though I should post :P

Yeah, 10 straight wins is brilliant. Another 4 will do nicely. :p

That's cool! Now all you need to do is the pose Jon is doing on it and it could be your sig?!

Glad you had a great time, man. My brother came up from down south as he was offered 3 season tickets for this game. He took his half brother and 5 year old son to his first ever Liverpool game. What a way to watch your first game - the little fella was made up and got interviewed on Sky Sports News! Huge huge couple of games. Its mental that you're still top, but completely deserved. Never seen so much passion from LFC and every fan (bar City, Chelsea, Utd and a few bitter blues) wants you to win this. Its the most capitulating conclusion to a Premier League in its history, in my opinion. No-one expected you within a sniff and to even finish in the top 4 would have been a massive achievement.

ezearis 04-14-2014 12:44 AM

I've been a Liverpool fan for almost all my life, I care more about them than about River Plate, the team of my country that I follow. Hope they'll win the Premier, I've never saw them win a league title as I was born in 1993 and they need to show why they're the biggest team in England.

I know, a lot of teams seem to want us to win the league which is mental. A slip up v Norwich and it could be out of our hands. It really is mad how close it is but I just want us to keep going. Only 4 more games. We can do it.

Gutted that Hendo is out for 3 games and it looked like Sturridge could miss a couple.

steel_horse75 04-14-2014 03:11 PM

Chelsea bar Lfc have a very easy run in.

If LFC beat Norwich and then Chelsea I think we (LFC) will win it.

Its been too long since we won it and we deserve it.

samboraisgodUK 04-14-2014 07:15 PM

Liverpool could very well do it, with the form they're in I can't see them slipping up in their easier games (though the defence isn't as solid as it should be). The Chelsea game is absolutely enormous, obviously. I've never been particularly keen on Liverpool but always like Gerrard and it'd be great to see him get to win the league after remaining so loyal over so many years when he could have moved away for (almost) guaranteed success.

brighton84 04-15-2014 12:02 AM

Speaking from experience it will only get harder for Pool from here on in. Granted no one expected them to win the league this year, but now they have it in their own hands the pressure will build.
Pressure can do strange things to people, how they react to it is what counts. The young players Sterling,Coutinho etc know no fear being so inexperienced and that may prove to be an advantage. That said Chelsea have experience in spades and that could be a deciding factor.
Norwich and Chelsea are games that I think Pool will win comfortably, the banana skin game for me is Palace away.Pulis has them set up to stifle teams and play on the break and they dont concede many.
I work with Pool season ticket holders and a couple of them have been in to work today with bruises all over their shins and sore throats, its pretty wild on the Kop so they told me.
As a neutral it would be great to see Gerrard lift the trophy,at times during his career he has carried the team on his back.

Yeah, it will. That's why I am not getting carried away because I agree that Palace could be a tough one. A very tough one. Their home form is pretty decent and Pulis knows the game and is a decent manager when he wants to be.

ticos_stick 04-15-2014 12:48 AM

The pressure has been off Liverpool up until they beat Man City on Sunday. They were admired but now they are feared. It's up to them how they react to the pressure but I think the team spirit is great and Rodgers won't let them slack off. The neutrals want Liverpool to win it and hopefully that extra bit of will can push them over the finish line. Chelsea will be tough and will try to park the bus but Liverpool will find a way around that.

I think that's the worst thing Chelsea can do. With Henderson out, our work horse is gone. He is the player who is doing the running for Gerrard whilst Gerrard is staying a bit back and almost playing like Xabi Alonso.

After Gerrard's huddle talk after the game yesterday, I don't think anyone will slack off. They all look hungry!

Mourinho is strange at times. Maybe at this stage of the season he knows Chelsea need to take points from Liverpool and just go all out or he might want to save face and go with a draw or play defensive and try to scrape a win.

Yeah they look really up for it. If they've got that on the pitch then Rodgers job is made so much easier.

Yeah, Chelsea are a really hard team to break down, though. Whether they sit back or not. Thankfully, so far, they don't have the best attacking line. Can almost guarantee that will change when they come to Anfield :p

I also don't think our defence is as bad as people make out. Set pieces we are really poor, we just cannot defend them and have never been able too. Apart from that, I actually think we have a pretty strong defence. Sakho is a great replacement for Agger. He isn't as good on the ball as Agger but he puts in some vital tackles. Skrtel has been excellent this season, just wish he would stop dragging people in the box or handballing!!

ticos_stick 04-17-2014 12:08 AM

Man City dropped two more points tonight. Looks like they're bottling the race.

steel_horse75 04-17-2014 12:20 PM

Liverpool need 2 wins now. They can even afford to draw with Chelsea.

ticos_stick 04-22-2014 12:00 PM

What have Man Utd fans got to say now? No more smug self satisfied "In Moyes we trust" or "We stick by our managers" rhetoric I assume

I predicted Moyes would have been sacked by February when he signed up. I wasn't too far out.

He knew his time was up on Saturday.

This interview from UTD Supporters' Trust is interesting:
http://www1.skysports.com/watch/vide...s%27-dismissal

Still, as an Arsenal fan, I'm gutted. I was hoping he'd stay for at least 25 years. He's brought lots of goals & action to every match.....just happened to be at the wrong end :D

RS8MB0R8 04-22-2014 10:36 PM

As an Arsenal fan, surely you should be asking what of Wenger's future if Everton pip them to 4th?

It's all Arsenal have managed since 2005 as a realistic goal come the end of the season. Moyes went after it became mathematically impossible for United to reach next season's CL. Given that this is also a minimum requirement at the Emirates, I imagine Wenger might be looking cautiously over his shoulder right about now.

liljovi93 04-23-2014 12:53 AM

Gutted that Moyes got the sack. I really was loving every minute of him being in charge. I would have give him at least the season and seen how he done 3 or 4 games into the new season after a summer of trying to buy players. He knows he flapped it in the last window so this would have been the opportunity for him to step up and try and prove people wrong and make his wrongs turn into rights.

Can't say I am surprised that he got the sack, though. Had a feeling it was coming, just a shame that it has happened. Giggs in charge won't do much either and they will need a new manager ASAP in my opinion. I think that Giggs is too familiar with the players and they won't look up to him as a coach. They didn't do it with Moyes and I certainly don't think they will with Giggs. Would have put Phil Neville in charge for the time being, personally.

In terms of the title race, Sunday could decide it. I was hoping that Man City would drop points on the weekend as that could mean that we could have won it on Sunday when City play Palace. Not to worry.

I really don't want Everton to win it for us, though. They play City soon and I just know that all we will get is 'If it wasn't for us...' from them.

Didn't half panic v Norwich, though. Again at half time I said that we cannot afford to sit back. That is what we done after the second goal anyway I thought. Sterling was unbelievable again. Really has been a revelation this season and deserves Young POTY.

Made up that Cech and Terry are out (or look like they are) so we just need to keep going on now. Silva is out for City and it looks like Aguero's season is over so if we can hold onto our players, that could be very very vital.

RS8MB0R8 04-23-2014 02:11 PM

I didn't want to see him go before the end of the season but disagree that Giggs is the right man to take temporary charge.

He might be one of the players but that means he can talk to them on their level and knows exactly how the team ticks. He's also heavily respected - nobody's won more than him in English football so it would take a stupid and arrogant individual to try to argue with his methods, not to mention the fact that he learned from the best. He understands Fergie's tactical nous and attitude to the club so I think this might be an opportunity for him to really stamp his mark on the team before he inevitably relinquishes control to someone with more managerial experience.

You think?

**** knows what his severance will be but he isn't going to be hitting up the brew any time soon.

He no longer has to stress having one of the biggest jobs in football.

He no longer has to stress about running Man U into the ground.

I think when the dust settles, he'll come out of this a lot better than Man U or the Glazers - when you take away all the schadenfraude, a lot of people feel he should have been given longer and the whole media circus that started on Monday will work in his favour too.

He took up the challenge and didn't quite make it but it doesn't mean he's a bad manager, after he's sick of spending his money he'll find a job somewhere else and do a decent enough job like he did at Everton.

ticos_stick 04-23-2014 08:52 PM

Moyes will do fine at a mid to lower league club or maybe the Scotland manager's post where nothing spectacular is expected.

I agree with the above post that he won't come out of this the worst. Man Utd have shown that they are just another ruthless money obsessed club. The idea that they're some kind of close knit family is beyond laughable.

They're all the same.

I've pretty much gone off football because money is at the root of everything in it and this is coming from someone who loves boxing!!!

I was watching the game with my dad on Sunday down the pub and the chat inevitably got round to Moyes tenure and someone cracked out the classic "Fergie had a rough time at the start"

I pointed out that he was talking about nearly 30 years ago and Fergie didn't have the Glazers or the kind of money riding on initial success to cost him his job.

City, Chelsea and Liverpool are in the same boat as well as a bunch of mid table teams - they've got rid of perfectly good managers just to try and grab instant success / cash / delete as appropriate.

That won't happen (lol), but I still want Wenger to go regardless of whether we win that FA Cup or not.

I've always said that one day I hope we don't get 4th....coz maybe then our ambitions can change. Majority of fans agree. It's the Board that see it as a Trophy. This is what happens when Clubs are run by people who don't know a thing or 2 about the Sport.

I would have give him at least the season and seen how he done 3 or 4 games into the new season after a summer of trying to buy players.

I think the bottom line is the Club couldn't Trust him with the £100 mil+ budget they have this Summer.

Well Jose just went and did it again. Liverpool were made to look quite ordinary today.

Now it's anybodys.

Nah, its City's. 2-0 up at the mo. Better goal difference. And their game in hand is against us (Villa). Everton are on a downer so there's 3 points with West Ham at home last game of the season. Cant see them dropping points now

Everton are no mugs, especially at home. I can see a few more twists but it's there for Man City to take now.

I hope you're right. But I thought Liverpool were gutless in the 2nd half and that Gerrard error just knocked all the belief out of them. Gerrard was taking long shot after long shot and not even getting a sniff. Then towards the end of the game the confidence went and the passing was all over the place. Rodgers needs to work his magic in these next two games. Palace should be fine, but Spurs are not going to be easy. Its City's to lose but when was the last time 3 teams were within a shout at this point of the season. Possibly the most interesting Premier League in its 21 years of existence.
