So... These Days is a Richie song?

Clearly on this video he says that. Well, I don't know for sure but the way he speaks seemed to me that it was all his song. Let's be honest, the arrangement and parts of the lyrics just screams his name.

Just remembering that this is a discussion board, all right?

Maybe. The fact that in the credits there's also Jon's name doesn't prove anything.

The most possible scenario is that Richie wrote the most of it and Jon changed a little bit here and there.

I just wish the band would learn the f*cking chord progression so they wouldn't balls it up so often! They've been playing it for long enough now, they should be able to play it flawlessly by now. Great tune though.

Musically it sound very much like Richie. However, given the lyrical matter and metaphers, and the fact that Richie sings the second verse differently ("I'd rather die than fade awaaaaaaaaaay", he also did this in 2012) make me believe that Jon contributed as well.

I'm with you on that theory.

I'm not. Back when Jon was in full force promoting the These Days record, he kept mentioning the title track, saying it was his latest masterpiece. Although This Ain't A Love Song was the lead single, These Days has been played way more often, even before the album was released. He spoke the same way about These Days the way he did in regards to Lost Highway back in 2007/2008. There's no way he'd talk about it that way would it be a Richie song.

I don't know if it's true or not, but honestly, if Richie wants back in the band, he has a funny way of showing it. I really wish he'd just shut his damn mouth. Just goes to show what we've always known. Jon is a professional. Richie isn't.

So true, he acts like a spoiled little boy.

So, are you basically saying that the cowriter of the song, in this case Richie, says bullshit? I didn't understand the argument, not making funny or anything, just asking to clarify your point (regarding what Richie said, not what Jon said in the past).

Richie was messing around with those sus chords and Jon had the melody and parts of the lyrics already (with also I'm guessing the title). It was a true collaboration from there, and this was also said by Richie around the These Days release in that guitar demo they made of him. He's just at a stage in his life where he feels the need to inflate his ego, it'll pass I'm sure, everyone has insecurities, and he's been in Jon's shadow for a LOT of years.....
