We're baaaaaaack.
I haven't slept enough to write a proper review... It wasn't a perfect show and yes, there is sloppiness, but the energy in that room was great and that's enough for me. I could have lived without Sugar Daddy and I don't think Voodoo Child is a good choice for the final song. The show definitely wasn't the disaster I was afraid to witness after reading several reviews of other shows. All That Really Matters was a lovely surprise, though it wasn't really a proper surprise for us since we heard it being soundchecked. |
Too lazy to write a proper review, but the show kicked ass. The best out of the 4 Richie shows I've seen 2012 and 2014. His voice was in great shape, the energy from the band and the audience amazing. Much better than Stuttgart, and that was already really good.
No matter how sloppy the playing was, I had tons of fun. |
The Answer & Taking a Chance of the Wind
No Who Says ;) |
My ears are still ringing after yesterday. :) Loved the strong drums but the volume was a bit too loud for my taste, I could barely distinguish the guitars from the vocals on Vodoo Child. I agree with AnnieKTF it's not the best song to end the concert.
The concert should end on a high and for me that was a cover of Clapton's Wonderful Tonight. It reminded me of all the songs and artists I discovered through Bon Jovi doing covers and making them their own. Wonderful Tonight was one of those moments and I'm glad I was there to witness it in person. I once wrote RIP Bon Jovi 1984 -2001 so I'm not a huge fan of their latest albums and live shows. The main reason to see Richie's concert was to see him live at least once in my life. Wish I had been old enough in '91 or '98 but I couldn't miss this oportunity this time. My expectations weren't high but I was hoping for the best. The concert opened with the classic opener on this tour but Richie's voice seemed much stronger than on the youtube videos from the previous concerts. I noticed fewer mistakes and mumbling of the lyrics so I guess they did some rehearsing. I wish Lay Your Hands On Me and Stranger In This Town had a faster tempo. It was like he had just learned the songs and did them way too slow. I guess more practice could fix that but I noticed the same thing at Bon Jovi concerts in the recent years. LYHOM is a rock song and should be played fast! It's funny how I'll Be There For You has turned into such a singalong song that Richie's having problems stopping the crowd from singing it endlessly. :) These Days and reggae don't mix well. I missed the guitar solo, no idea why we only got the keyboards instead of a proper solo. I didn't get into Lean On Me with the local singers. It was kind of pointless that they had guitars on stage since we couldn't hear them anyway, they just got in the way when they wanted to huddle around the microphone. Midnight Rider was another high for me. More of this please. :) The Answer is one of my favorite songs but Richie messing up the chords kind of took the magic out of it. More practice and it'll be perfect. I was really hoping Richie would play Rosie but after watching the butchering the song received the night before, I'm glad he didn't. Acoustic version of Rosie in a proper tempo would have made a great addition to the setlist, I think. All That Really Matters was a nice surprise. We definitely need more stuff from the Undiscovered Soul album. All in all it was a great concert and I had a blast. What would have made it a perfect one? Fewer mistakes (not improvisations but plain mistakes!) and replacing Song for you, Lean on me and Vodoo child with songs from the first two albums. Richie's voice is still very strong and the magic is there but he needs more practice. |
