This left feels right is the best. . .
produced Jovi album post 00. You can say what you want about the arangment and music but it got dynamic, space and warmth. Wich all the other album lacks exept Lost Highway. Highway and TLFR is neither overcompressed or cold and it dosent feels like knifes cutting through your eardrums listening too them.

I opened this thread and really wanted to argue this but...I...agree. It's tough saying good things about that record but it's produced far warmer than anything Ebbins/Shanks/Parshar/Benson did.

I remember Jon at the time saying the producer (was it Pat Leonard) was definitely producing the next album. That Jon would crawl over hot coals to make it happen. Seems he dropped that when TLFR flopped. Shame. As much as I like Shanks' production on HAND, Leonard deserved a shot at a proper studio album. I agree with the OP, his production on TLFR was very good.

Shanks is actually a good producer but he makes all Bon Jovi songs sound the same in my opinion...
For me, it's all about Jon's vocals which I think Shanks handles well. I think he sounds lazy on TLFR... And on Bounce and Crush too for that matter. I don't know how to describe it but Jon sounds twangy, scratchy, rough, with a bad tone which is close to his natural voice. Shanks knows how to tune that down. For example, if you compare LTOR studio to the live version, you could hear the difference |

Shanks is problebly easy to work with and surly an effective music maker. The Jovi coporations succes depends alot on efficiancy and not that much on the art. Cook, eat, digeste and shit it out too the public who dosent think that much about what it swallows.
Now I must admit that I think the TLFR version of Keep the faith is the best Jovi song post 00. Im not saying it beats the old version but compared to the rest of the "newer" realeses this song got heart and feeling. The arrangement are a bit cocky with the accapela but its kind of cool. The cello is awsome and the drumming beutiful. And you get the sense that Jon really means what hes singing. I could easly have this played at my funeral if it werent for Blaze of Glory, the perfect song to end all things. |
I think This Left Feels Right is fantastic! Love the reworked versions of already awesome songs
