Starting All Over Again

Didn't realize I actually LIKED this song until I got my hands on the original B-side version a few months ago... When I first heard it on the box set I couldn't help but cringe hearing it. Thought it sucked and I never heard Jon so...whiny, I guess.

Don't understand why they put that awful version on the box set! The original version is actually quite good!

Agreed. The box set version just feels naked, whereas the b-side version has much more punch and drive. Sometimes I feel that the band has all the materials to be so much better, but strange decisions take that opportunity away.

The sad part is, no decent remastered recording of this one exists. Just crappy 1992 sound.

I was under the impression that the remastered albums weren't much different from the originals and in some cases worse due to dynamic range compression?

Yea the remasters are quite smashed. I have this song on my Japanese Keep the Faith and it sounds great. Very alive and punchy.

Actually "Starting All Over Again" is also on Cross Road: Deluxe Sound & Vision so if you want a louder, flatter 'remastered' version, get that.

KTF Japanese edition brings back memories of going into Tower Records in Glasgow and paying £17 for the CD for that one track :p

Youch! I don't think I quite paid that much. Mine was a reissue I bought on Amazon.co.uk back in 2005 (thought it's only dated 1992) as I remember someone here mentioned it. I didn't 'officially' own the album at that time so it made sense to get that version.

Considering we already had this song as a bside, I'm glad we got the 'on the floor' version on the Box.

There was a story as to why this version was included... I believe they called it an 'on the floor' recording which is different from the usual demo process. It was to show off the songs incredible vocal depth as well as Jon's ability to get through it.

I'm sure when the guys were going through the vault and stumbled upon something like this, it makes for an interesting find... and then for them to think it's cool enough to share, makes this a treasure in my book.

The box set was never meant for easy listening per say. It was to give us something different then the usual.

The reason why Radio was so interesting was because of Jon's cold. I'm sure they could have found a different vocal or just had Jon re-sing it but they choose to keep it. Something they would never do on an album.

I thought the version on the Cross Road Deluxe was the same as the box set, no? I don't hear a difference, then again I haven't listened to Cross Road Deluxe in a while. Now that you say that I'm going to have to compare them!

Actually you're right. They used quite a few box set songs on the second disc and this was one of them. I honestly couldn't remember as I hadn't listened to it in years, so I had to check.
