So I'm going to conclude that when Jon mentioned the newspaper influence, he was referring to the world disasters happening hence the title, God Bless This Mess...

Now that we have the title for the first single, I don't think Jon meant politics or a specific event per say... I think he means in a more literal sense that every time he picks up a newspaper, there is something happening in the world...

My thought of the title "God Bless This Mess" could be about the mess with the band situation, Richie walking out, etc.. You really could go many directions with that title. There are so many messes in the world and in everyone's individual lives (including Jon's) we won't know what mess God's blessing until we hear the song!

And there it is... I was waiting for the about Richie post... If Jon admittedly said that he was asking for God's blessing to fix the Richie situation, I would actually laugh out loud...

I think terrorist, school shootings, and evey other crazy mother fukcer is more title fitting than Richie.

God can bless it without "fixing" it. Sometimes change is for the better and therein lies the blessing. As I said there are many different ways the subject matter could go.

Thank you!

My guess is that God Bless This Mess will contain 2 parts. The first part will be about tragedies from all around the world, then comes the chorus, then the second part which will be more Jon/band oriented.

Is anyone with me on this one? :D

It's possible, and would relate nicely to the title. But I doubt that Jon would mention specifics regarding the band's situation, though he may very well be alluding to them in the title etc.
I'm so so pumped for July to come around. I'm still holding out for a Jovi lead single to be another (relative) hit. Optimism, I know...

The lyrics will be held as shallow as possible in order to make them "universally appealing", as always. One will probably be able to interpret them in any way he/she wants to.
Jon's lyrics almost never get specific about anything.

Exactly, he'd better write songs to be enjoyed and understood by anyone, not only by those who care for his personal problems / band problems.
