I wish I could find the first time he's said writing was his favorite, recording was his second and touring was third. It was long before his voice started to slide, and was said more to reinforce how much he loves songwriting and wasn't meant to downplay him enjoying being on stage. I know he's said being on stage is great, he hates the lead up time.

I think it was somewhere around the Crush era where he said that he was waiting for someone to invent a teleporter that would beam him out of the house onto the stage and then back home again, then stating that he liked the moments on stage, but that the other 22 hours of the day sucked. It might have even been in 1995/96 that he said it.

He hate play concert and always on his free time he play special shows with band, jbj solo shows, Runaway trips and covers with KOS?? Don't write your own story about Jon.
Jon said in Fahrenheit era that touring isn't best thing to do and it was main reason why they all had problems with familys at that time.
He love playing concerts and last show from Gdansk is only proof that I need from him :)

And he always said that makeing music is what he love most. And of course he want to be big like Rolling Stones ;)

Comments like the above I'm familiar with... how the 21 hours of the day suck but the 3 hours on stage make it all worth it... There is no secret that Jon hates touring but when he stated the other day that he hates performing, that's totally different. Nows he's also mentioned that he's not an applause junkie so maybe that's the direction he was going in...

Bottom like, if you excel at something, you'll most likely enjoy it or at least tolerate it but if you suck at it, you'll like it the least. Point in case...

Do you think that Jon have fun here?

I don't think so.

Man, you're attributing your own opinion to what the guy said and starting up this theory based on your opinion. He said performing is the least of his favourites. That does not equal hate. If your favourite ice cream flavours are vanilla, chocolate and mango but you like mango the least of those it'd be insane to say "well RD hates Mango ice cream".

No, it's like... I love being a police officer but arresting people is my least favorite thing to do... You see what's going on here?

I love being a rock star but my least favorite thing to do is perform... And my favorite thing is making records....

My take is, Jon loves his job but performing isn't his favorite part of it... Okay, maybe he doesn't hate it but not enjoying it is still pretty ironic (I think that's the word I'm looking for)

I can't believe no one sees or no one has mentioned the painfully obvious thing here. The difference between Jon touring 30 years ago and Jon touring now is 30 years.

While he's still a very physically fit man for a man his age, he's still a man his age who has put his body through hell for 30 years, not only through touring but through his own fitness regimen of jogging and what have you. His knees are shot; his legs are shot; his feet are shot. It physically HURTS HIM to be onstage putting on the kind of show he tries to put on. That's why it's his least favorite part of the process. Add trying to be physically entertaining while you're in pain to trying to sing when your instrument isn't what it used to be and it's a grueling process all around. It's not lack of passion or lack of love of the audience or lack of love for act of entertaining. He wants to bring his songs to the world, but it pains him to do so.

Again, I just don't think he's talking about his time on the stage. Obviously as he's getting older it's more of a wear on his body, it's the time away from home and travelling gig to gig and spending hours in hotel rooms. I think it's taking him way too literal to say he hates performing.

Just to get the exact quote and reaction, I watched the interview again... Here are the questions and answers...

Q: What excites you most about the music that you do
Jon: Songwriting to me is the greatest thing I'm able to do much more that recording anything or ever performing.
Q: I am so surprised, I thought you would have said being on the stage
Jon: It's the least of my favorite things to do... When I write a song, that's where the magic happens

After watching it a few times, I'm going to retract... He's talking about fulfillment. And Songwriting fulfills him the most. Not Recording or Performing...
