How about waiting until you've listened to the title at least once?

And it may very well be in the vein of something like WDR - Bon Jovi loves to beat dead horses, they do it all the time :p

God Bless This Mess, indeed. Words cannot express how much I hate this title and how disappointed I am that after all the hype we’re back to square one, but I’m not here to rant because the truth is I DON’T CARE. I’ve only liked one single in twenty years (Memory). ONE FREAKING SINGLE IN 20 YRS. My bar is so low I can’t see it anymore. I know the new single won’t make me hate or dismiss the new record like it did in the past, Jon is hopeless when it comes to making/choosing the first single (he can bitch about the label's involvement as much as he wants, but I doubt they made them write Everyday, or HAND, or Follow, or…) and he has to cater to the casuals and the radio stations so I finally accepted that. I’m expecting a cross between “What’s Left of Me” and “The More Things Change” *shudders*

Being excited in the past only led to disappointment. I’ve switched from being very very optimistic about THINFS to more cautious to pretty indifferent but strangely excited at the same time. If it’s another WAN, so be it, we have BB which is what I’ve wanted since Crush. Not the whole album, of course, but a confirmation at last that the lyrics and the passion are still there. I’ve come to terms with what to expect from this band. Album wise they don’t have anything else to say and I’m perfectly fine with that. This won’t be another KTF or another Crush; being the no.1 tour for the past years almost guarantees that Jon won’t care about this new album’s sales. Which should really translate in an “artistic” album but won’t. We all know this band (ie Jon) doesn’t take risks anymore. I’d rather they concentrate in getting ready for a memorable tour FINALLY. They will drop the new songs after the first leg anyway, whether they are the best thing since the 90s or more WAN-style crap. We’ll get another Greatest Hits + LH tour, let’s face it, it has worked very well for them so why change now? Again, I’d rather have a great tour where Jon shows passion. I know we can’t have both, unfortunately (good album and good tour). Jon’s far too detached from his day job and has been for a very long time.

BTW, why do so many people think that the single is going to be an angry song? Or related to the label departure? We already had the angry-defiant songs (WDR&BB) and the serious ballad (Teardrop). They won’t beat that dead horse again, specially since
- They’re back with the label (I still can’t believe it… oh well…)
- The name of the single was announced AFTER confirming being back with the label so if they did have another angrier single it was probably discarded to “bury the hatchet”
- Jon’s new motto since TC is the dreaded “power of we” (Follow, BWC) which in my book is even worse than “life your life, stand your ground, bla bla” but it’s here to stay… The title of the new single, all that has happened, the reconciliation with the label, all points to another uplifting “the power of we is stronger than we think, we made it through it all thanks to you and me” (I may have a chorus here lol)

So yeah, the last thing I expect with THAT title is a rocker and I’m really surprised anyone would think otherwise in 2016 after the last albums/singles. Truly curious, not criticizing really

Oh come on! When a simple thing like a title from an upcoming song (things change all the time, it might not even be the first single) causes you to write such a lengthy reply with speculation that doesn't show indifference at all. Admit it, you're excited! :p

I guess as long as they're working on it. But I was just hoping recording was done, but they have always done some last minute tweaks here and there so who knows....

The Hand You Hold was added to Ascap with the writers:

JBJ
Dominic Miller (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominic_Miller I assume)
Paul Thorn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Thorn) "Paul Wayne Thorn (born July 13, 1964) is an Americana singer-songwriter[1] whose style is a mix of blues, gospel, and rock music.[2]" I like the sound of that.

EDIT: Nevermind, I already said it got added weeks ago. Did I list the writers then? MAYBE MAYBE NOT.

Please, please, PRETTY PLEASE let it NOT be a song from the new album

The only thing I want, I hope, I desire is NO MORE acoustic singer-songwriter stuff in BJ. I'm not against it, but Jon needs to get off his high horse and stop trying to make it happen and concentrate in the band. Do the fun clichés again. Make plain old rock and roll. Stop with the artistic stuff, STOP!!

We need another Crush. This band has aged 15 years in the past 5 years and they don't realize that nobody is going to take them seriously after 30 years if they try to be a serious/artistic band. Trying different things in a solo album is OK, it won't hurt the band, but they are going to lose the casuals IF they want to be something different at this stage of their career.

Now, "Rage of Angels" sounds like something BJ would do. I'm all for it ;)

Call it intuition, I'm usually pretty good at it. But like I said, I don't care. I wasn't expecting another WDR once we knew they are back with the label. Jon will want to kiss and make up, he's nice like that

I would be SO HAPPY If I have to eat my words in a couple months. I would put in in my signature if that's the case

"Won't judge a song by its title"
"Won't judge a song by its title"
"Won't judge a song by its title"
"Won't judge a song by its title"
"Won't judge a song by its title"

If the title was KTF I wouldn't in a million years expect the actual song in 2016. Imagine how HUGE my surprise would be hehe. Won't be that lucky though

Oh, but I've been mulling over that for some time now, I didn't just wake up today and decided that I didn't like it :D I have like 10 spare minutes every two weeks so I have lots to say in so little time. I don't even know if I sound disjointed, crazy or make sense at all. Not enough coffee today.

Excited? I don't know, specially since I'm so crazy busy I don't have time to overthink and overanalyze. Which is a good thing or I would be here every day anxiously waiting for news and writing 50-line posts every hour.

I was that person before Crush (not here, I was active in other boards). I'm sure some people still remember and hate me

I have strange feelings towards this one

PS. I love seeing pics of their setup! Wish we could see more of Richie's live and recording set ups as well as Bobby's and Jon's....

He followed up with this https://www.facebook.com/therealphil...type=3&theater

I'm guessing practice, surely you wouldn't need that setup for recording... even for crazy hands Lemma...

Forgive my ignorance, cos I don't FB and I know nothing about studio interiors, but did Phil actually say he was working with Bon Jovi there or is that just an assumption ppl are making? I saw some questions about that in the comments, but no answers.

It makes me wonder if he could have been recording with someone else when that picture was taken, since he's a session musician. I get the impression he works with lots of different artists as well as BJ. Plus, around a month ago, didn't Jon say (again) that the record was finished?

Of course, as you said, it could be a rehearsal situation; not necessarily recording.

Yep, he's said he's recording the album but that was a month or two ago. I wonder if it's for the album or, hopefully, some b-sides! That would be mighty cool.

He's teasing and not right out saying it but the only situation that he's used the talk box is with Bon Jovi, hence his comment "well if there's a talk box". And his caption on the other pic "well if there's a dual keyboard set up", and that's basically David's live set up so it's leaning more and more to rehearsal time! :D
