Maybe the album is so good they can't stop getting together and listening to it. ;)

Could be. It's just that with every other studio shot we've seen, the assumption was made that they were still working on the album. Just kinda raised the question for me, that's all.

My only question was why would Jon and Tico be in the studio on a Sunday, and on a holiday weekend. Listening party, rehearsal for promo, is there something u know that we don't?

Captain_jovi 05-30-2016 03:57 AM

He's saying just because Tico is in the studio it doesn't mean Jon was wrong for saying the album is done and gave some examples of what it could be.

That's just another picture from the other day... Shanks is wearing the same outfit plus it's 95 degrees in NYC and Tico wouldn't be wearing a jacket...

Just a theory but I think Jon is out wearing that shirt for a reason... I think he is either using the paparazzi (sp) or has professional photographers making it look like the paparazzi. This is the start of promoting this new album...

Shots of him by paparazzi happen often enough during non-album cycles, I don't know...If this is routed around that t-shirt, it's such a small small selection of people who know about that situation, is it really worth all that work?

Only to a Bon Jovi conspiracy theorist. No one in the general public would even get that Mercury stood for a record label much less the story behind it.

Nobody in the general public gives a shit about a new Bon Jovi album except for the people who know what Mercury stood as... See what just happened there???

I have a brilliant memory and I do remember historically (the past few albums) of Jon taking certain strolls down his NY street looking like a million bucks right before album release dates... Go back to the stalker blog Facebook and look at some dates...

You act like he stops existing and isn't in photos no matter what point in the cycle he's in. http://www.gettyimages.ca/photos/jon...t=best#license He looks no more or less "like a million bucks" than he's looked for the last year or so. He's had plenty of pictures of him standing outside or on vacation taken and it wasn't because an album was coming up.

And for the love of pete, why do you get so aggressive about being the number 1 fan that knows eeeeeeeeeeeeeverything.

Yeah, you're being ridiculous again.

jovifan93 06-01-2016 03:16 PM

Maybe he bought/took over Mercury records? He's had his own label before. Just a thought, but would bring additional (artistic) freedom and so on... ;-)

Bounce7800 06-01-2016 04:26 PM

Mercury records technically doesn't exist in the US, being swallowed up under the Universal umbrella according to Wiki

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Records

There is Mercury & Mercury Classics within Virgin/EMI in the UK though.

jovifan93 06-01-2016 04:40 PM

Yeah, but it used to exist, didn't it? Or was it just Europe? Maybe they offered Jon his own label under the Universal umbrella, and resurrected the Mercury name for it... (yeah, may sound a little crazy at first, but think about it. Unless Jon's a notorious lyer, they had to offer him something to come back (unless he crawled back to them, but I seriously can't see him doing that))

jovifan93 06-01-2016 05:52 PM

BTW, Bon Jovi are listed on Virgin/EMI under Mecury? Is that the same one (i.e. beloging to Universal Music)?

Your correct, Mercury records did indeed exist in the US. I am so guessing here but I think it went away after the These Days record, so late 90's or so. If you recall, that was one of the reasons given for the big gap between These Days and Crush.

Becky 06-01-2016 09:20 PM

Mercury went away and later they got put on Island Def Jam with some bunch of rap artists. It's one of many reasons so long passed between TD and Crush. Jon was waiting to see how the new label fit among other things.

Didn't that get reorganized? Mercury being like a division under the Island Def Jam label? And Island being under Universal's distribution? This whole labels and umbrella's under labels confuses me....

Rdkopper 06-02-2016 04:17 AM

It might just be a cool little vintage tee made for Jon being that he is one of the few, if not only, guy let from the Mercury days... Maybe after his Burning Bridges rant, someone from the record company thought it was a cool idea to have a handful of tee shirts made for Jon as a gift and a way to laugh it all off...

Please don't over think any of it.. As someone suggested above, I seriously doubt Jon purchased part of the record company and took the Mercury name... He tried that back in 1990 under Jambco (Jamco) and failed miserably... He helps Cinderella, Skid Row, & Color Me Bad, which all go on to have huge successes then goes at it himself with Billy Falcon & Aldo Nova and they totally tank.. Talk about shit luck...

Solo projects was the reason for the gap.

True but I do remember (unless my memory has really gotten bad) that Jon had said the delay was due to the change at Mercury and the death of Bruce Fairbairn so how delayed who knows. :)

Yeah from what I recall it was the day Jon got home from filming U571 when he call the call about Bruce so that would put that delay at....around 98/99 I guess?

Yes, thanks Matt. Bruce, died the middle of 1999 if, again, memory serves.

Thanks!

And the amount of material they had slowed things down too. The batch Jon brought and the batch Jon wrote with Richie. It's naive to say it was just the solo projects that delayed everything is what I'm saying.

I think I remember Jon saying they sat on the album for a while during the change to figure out where the band fit in with the whole label buyout change. That could just be pr talk for negotiating until we had the label's full support for promo. Memory is a bit bad lately but it sounds likely....

Interesting. I'm not sure how complete it was. I know when they did the album launch for press at Jon's house It's My Life was only just recorded and Say it isn't so had alternate lyrics. I guess It's possible an early version was completed and then tinkered with up until release.

When you think that will release the first single?

I think that will happen next week, maybe June 15th.

I think maybe when he does his next Runaway Tours, I think, but he would need the whole band.

Speaking of such, anyone else notice that they used a picture of Jon with dark hair this time. Last time it was a blond pic, now a dark pic (it's the Just For Men look)... Someone should twitter Matt and let him know that Jon now has grey hair and people accept the qtip look

Of course! And Jon was the first on the list, Richie wrote his name up there!

I remember the run up to Crush's release the lead single was always slated as being Say It Isn't So, which only changed last minute to IML. The record company change may have played some part in the delay from Sex Sells in 1999 to Crush in mid-2000, the record company may have wanted a "Hit", brought Max Martin in and there was IML.

Sounds about right... And I wouldn't mind if that happened again...

Some people are so hell bent on having Jon write 100% of everything but imo, the writing it just half the battle... Having the artist deliver the vocal, passion, and, right production is the other half... You can't just give a song to anyone and expect it to be an instant hit... The song and artist has to be one... If the record company handed Jon a song to do in hopes of a hit, that wouldn't bother me in the least, especially if it did become a hit...

In a reverse sense, there are so many Jovi songs that I think could have been huge hits if sung by other artists...
