I initially thought this was going to get as much promo as Bruning Bridges considering the fact that no one cares about rock acts anymore, Richie is gone, and Jon's not as pretty as he used to be but it seems as if, they are going balls in... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

Wasn't it reported on the woman with cancer that Jon surprised that he played her the new record? We don't know how much of it though I suppose.

Jon probably play the first single or two and/or Jon had 30 second samples ready to go prior to her visit... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

They said something similar before the release of Because We Can, and honestly, this song is not Rock and not anthem stadium. Don't take the opinion of nearby circles to the band, they tell you what you want to hear, but the reality will be very different. |
Well the album must be excellent if Matt says so :).

We all want to be proven right, as simple as that. That can be "proven right" as in being right about the album being crap, being the best thing since sliced bread, or just being meh.

Common sense needs to take over here... we're not going to get another These Days because Jon's not capable vocally. We're not going to get another I'll be There For You type ballad because Jon's not capable vocally.
Based on the facts stated leading up to this point in combination with common sense, and knowing the history of this band, I'm anticipating and album full of rockin tunes... Songs that aren't vocally challenging that Jon could pull off live (somewhat)... An album like We Don't Run... I'm anticipating more edgier songs with better production... Fast, Guitars, Drums, Attitude... A modern 80s Bad Medicine meets IML style album... When I pop this CD in, I'm anticipating and 2016 Hey God to kick it off... I don't think it's going to be all 100% non stop... I think the lead single and the majority will be but they'll be a few Teardrops in there as well... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

All I can see is, bring it on. It could be an awful album, it could be actually very enjoyable. All I gotta say is that another Burning Bridges ain't gonna cut it for me. But yeah, those were previously unused songs. But there's five songs top that I dig from that album (Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning, Who Would You Die For and Teardrop To The Sea are all great in their respective ways, We Don't Run is okay, and Fingerprints is a tad too long but has a nice atmosphere. But stuff like We All Fall Down is awful.)
I definitely am curious about the results of this, though. BB was a sort of test run of BJ without Richie (the lead-single was even co-written by him, after all), but this time, this is gonna reflect the A-game Jon can bring on his own. Maybe that'll give him some extra incentive to deliver. |

Take Dave and Tico's tracks out and replace them with session players and you have the same album... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |
We don't know how much of the keys are already done by guys not in the band anyway. Bobby played guitar, even a solo, on HAND, too. It's not exclusive to BJ, though - they're a huge band, and when you're in the studio with producers like Shanks, session players are gonna be around.

What I always found odd was Phil X doing session work on What do ya got, pre his band involvement and Jon not even being involved in that recording session, per an interview Phil gave. Really, I don't know. I agree with the comment about Crush. Jon replacing tracks from solo with band is 50% of what Crush is and 80% what the Crush b-sides were so let's not act like this is new behavior. 2000 was the turning point or when the lines starting getting blurry. Maybe even 1997 if we're including Drive. |
It's Hard Letting You Go is just Jon, Richie and a drum machine as well. "Band album" has become synonymous with "Richie was very involved" after the 2000s (see Bounce or The Circle), which is why him leaving has a much bigger impact than anybody else's departure.
Hell, I suppose Hugh's creative input has been greater than David's ever since HAND, considering he writes his own basslines. David is usually just adding textures, and I'm pretty sure the "important ones" (WWBTF's chorus) were written before he got into the picture/studio. |
Keep The Faith is also based on some (half?) Jon solo songs which he wrote before he get band back again.
For many years we didn't know that Hugh recorded bass for BJ as a session musican. And we don't know how many others sessions players played on their records before Crush. So this is nothing new. Now situation is little different because they said that they back and play demos on studio again with the whole band |
