All good, just hoping people go into it with an open mind. The track record has been spotty with lead off singles so I'm really hoping for a rocker this time out.

Meh. why some people still think it will be big loud rock song??
Shanks didn't put information that song is in major key with no reason
Welcome twya, Captain crash, Who says, Destination anywhere, Life ibeautiful or We all fall down. I think that that kind of single we'll get . Nothing rocker that this . Personally I think that it will this song like I' m Yours by J.Mraz. Summer pop-rock song not rock song (not in major key).
Listen on youtube rock hits which were change for major key. Nothing else matter sound like soft fun song and Loosing My Realigion in this version sound very optimistic (not sad like original).
Give me list of songs in major key which are big rick and loud to proove that we can get anything more rocker than We all fall down :)

That is some crazy logic, you're really focusing on the hashtag he used when it's pretty clear the guy has no idea how social media works. He constantly tweets incorrectly.

Bad Medicine and Have a Nice Day are in both in the keys of E major. There's more to songs than keys, there's tempo and aggression and how much he's putting into the vocals. There's drum beat etc.

The argument about major/minor keys is irrelevant and seems like more of a joke that someone would use as a hyperbole of the whole situation (I hope). Anyway, let's all just remember how the leading singles have been these past few releases, and also keep in mind that it should be something that Jon can convincingly pull off live. Even if the music has a harder edge, HAND style vocals are not something we should expect. If we get them great but let's be realistic with our expectations...

Jon couldn't pull off a lead single convincingly since Make A Memory :D

He pulls of Born to Follow as good as he always has, and by no means am I defending that song. Blech.

Lol I like that song. Loved it when I first heard it but wore off a bit. He also pulled off what do you got and because we can quite well.

This is completely laughable how people are judging, critiquing, and criticizing a song that has not even been released or heard. More laughable is how u are analyzing old songs and seeing if that will be the sounde of the new single/album. Lets take a deep breath, relax, and lets wait until Friday, it's only 4 days away! U guys can make it! ;)

I forgot about What Do You Got. He did a good job on that one live! WWBTF and BWC were rather disappointing to me since he couldn't deliver the energy which had enhanced the studio recordings. The last uptempo song where I felt that he was able to give it some edge live (only considering lead singles) was HAND for me.

So should we all stay away from our keyboards until Friday?

I'm with you that we shouldn't discuss the quality of something that we haven't heard yet, but speculating about which old song it might resemble is part of the fun since during the last 15 or so years there have often been quite obvious similarities to prior releases.
Maybe they'll prove us all wrong though and the new single will sound nothing like anything we had heard from BJ before (like on WWYDF).

I have the feeling that the new album will have some song like "We Dont Run".

steel_horse75 08-09-2016 12:34 AM

This, for me, is the most important album for Bon Jovi since Crush. It needs to be rock record. They need to prove they don't need Richie.

Javier 08-09-2016 12:40 AM

It may have some rockers and have a harder edge than WAN or the circle but I'm not really expecting a big rock album. And I'm not expecting the single to be a big loud rock song, not to be the downer here but I'm trying to be realistic. The lead off single is the song that has the most chance of getting airplay and have crossover appeal, I'm half expecting it to be a reflective mid tempo song. But that may just be because I'm reminded of the Ryan Adams song lol....

Blood On Blood and In These Arms are in major, though.

Rdkopper 08-09-2016 04:12 AM

Even if Jon could write a These Days 2, he could never vocally deliver one... One of the elements that made that album so great was Jon's voice... He sounded youthful, his tone was clear, and then obviously his range... Without that, we'll never get a These Days 2 and considering the fact that all three of these elements can't be produced, even in a studio, the odds of us ever getting anything remotely close will never happen...

Because I'm smart enough to not only know this but understand Jon's capabilities, I'm not expecting him to churn out miracles... My expectations are not high and that's how you all need to go into this because otherwise you'll be disappointed... I was very happy with Burning Bridges and even Beautiful Day because I really thought Jon had nothing left in the tank...

Burning Bridges are the demo's for something bigger to come so we'll see and her in a a few days...

Someone posted earlier about Joe Elliot hearing and praising the new album! One interesting comment he made was that Def Leppard and Bon Jovi were supposed to tour but it got cancelled because Jon was busy making this album...

First, I think that would be awesome!!!

10 years ago Jon would never even associate those two bands together but I think, as time goes on, Jon should revert back to the 80's. I don't think it's a big deal anymore. Rock in general is dead so why not join forces with whoever is still around...

Everyone keeps talking about how they want to hear upbeat rock songs like HAND and WDR. Am I the only one here that wants to hear another slow tempo song like Teardrop To The Sea or Fingerprints?

Livin With The Ghost and Touch of Grey sound promising slow tempo rock songs to me :D.

I also really like "a teardrop to the sea". it got stuck in my head. i sing it along almost every day. one of my fav bj songs ever. fantastic one.

but as the first single i'd prefer smth like "we don't run" or better :)

I think it was cos Richie left but agree theres no way JBJ would do this tour.

BonJovi100 08-09-2016 11:01 AM

I hope you have right about new song (not me) but I still think that if it will be song like HAND or Bad Medicine then Shanks would give us that information.
He did it before WWBTFollow and BWCan. I remember he said before them that they will be Big/ Rock/ Stadium/Anthem ecc.
Now we have only... "Major Key".

For me also this could be slower song than HAND or WWBTFollow. It could be another Destination Anywhere which I love or WWYDFor.

For me in songs like Saturday Night GMSMorning, Teardrop TTSea or WWYDFor gave us his best vocal in years. He deliver this song to me. I don't need nothing more.

Certainly not the only one. WWYDF was a very welcome surprise, that is the type of vocal delivery sorely missed over the last album or two. Very listenable song, as was Teardrop. They were slow but not ballads, they sounded modern(ish) and were generally solid effots imo.

It does concern me that this album for whatever reason, won't have highlights like those two songs. It would be typical of the band to put some gems on an album they don't support properly, thinking the songs they've recorded for their next 'official' release are stronger and more worthy of their support...only to turn out they're not!

I do keep my fingers crossed and remain optimisic but it'll take a big album to divert my attention back onto this band in the way it has been previously. I'm certainly not going to listen to samples of the full album, or read too much into screen grabs from the THINFS music video. I'll listen to the lead single then patiently wait for the full album in October and make judgements then.

Some music theory for the layman:

You can find many more songs reworked to major key on YT (not for the better):

me too, only the single...
i have faith in this album because they/jon really took their time with it, i have faith in him as a songwriter and looks pretty pretty confident without being in a promo cycle...teardrop was a highlight but i believe jon thought the lyrics fitted bb best. bj especially jon usually makes bad song decisions for singles etc but they had time and usually thrive when they are underdogs

Walkerboy 08-09-2016 12:12 PM

Had a dream last night that, after coming second in a canoeing competition, I encountered Jon sat at a picnic table. We were old friends and he said I could have a quick advanced preview listen to the new single.
I had to listen to it via headphones so that no-one else could listen to it, until my wife turned up and Jon said she could listen to a bit as well.
I hated it.... but didn't have the balls to tell Jon.
My wife had the same opinion, but she didn't hold back, simply standing there shaking her head in disbelief.

JOVI7826 08-09-2016 12:25 PM

Maybe they want to prove they can do it without Richie...My hopes are high because of this...

Im extremely excited for new song friday . The title scares me , but i guess you dont judge a book by its cover ;) I loved the style of Teardrops , We dont run , and Who would you die for . If similar will be stoked ... Maybe to make up for no Richie they include lots of Daves keys .. Hoping for a massive intro like Pink flamingos !

liljovi93 08-09-2016 12:46 PM

I'm excited for the single and album but I am a bit weary of how the single will sound. I'm just basing this on their usual first choice singles. Last one I really liked as a first single was 'Have A Nice Day' I think. The others I can kind of see why they are the first singles but they aren't the best songs in the world.

Hi all,

I am a BIG BJ fan!

Jon is 54. His voice is shot, if he was capable of a Rock Album he would of released one by now.

If the new album, isn't well recieved does anyone think Jon will call it a day?

Or fans who want his voice to be like the past just have to accept he will never have voice surgery, as Jon seems comfortable with where he is at now.

Also if Jon did have his voice, like past I couldn't see him singing a full-album like that.

At best I am hoping for BB, worst WAN.

I have been listening to 2013, and 2015 tours on YT, Jon's voice is so thin, I am just worried if he will not have a voice at all come the end of this tour.

Interested to hear fans thoughts on after listening to single/album if Jon should carry on? or quit?

Regardless, I will always remain a BJ fan for life!

P.S I accepted that Jon's voice isn't to revert to the past, and would be happy with a BB type albums till they call it a day. Not that I think they should, it's just Jon is OLDER pardon the pun! And isn't young anymore.

Jon will carry on recording whatever happens but maybe the touring side will change. He's always said that his first love is the writing and recording and the downside is the touring.

I hope Jon realises he needs to help his voice, by resting his voice this upcoming tour, or be responsible until retirement like this.

What I mean is sing 2 times, a week a break, then tour again, repeat.

Let's say he tours England sings London, 1 night, a break and then returns to finish London, a break then returns to Manchester repeat like this to help his voice.

Come on now...don't be such a downer...I think Jon will bring back the magic once again...he has done it before...he knows the way...regarding his voice...I think we all grow up as the time passes by...I am positive about the new song.
