I'll be buying it as soon as it's available tomorrow, no harm having a radio rip for today though. |

Someone mentioned Bruce Springsteen because of the guitar sound in the intro + solo, it also makes me think of this song by Little Steven:
And I'm not saying the songs sound alike, just the gtr sound and attack do. |
I don't mind it. The guitars seem more dynamic than they have for a while. Generic for sure, but a little more ambitious than recent output. I could give or take the chorus. I don't think it has the potential to be a breakout success, but that's Ok at this stage in their lives.
Also, Jon's voice still seems weak to me, in fact I would go as far as to say he detracts from the song. Once again, a Jon with a good voice would make this song very good, which is how I felt about much of WAN. It gives me hope for a rockier record. I wonder if the album will have a lot of guitar work to prove a point. Hopefully because it would then be more like the rock record I want. Single: 6.5/10 |
Lets see if I understand correctly the lyrics, can someone tell me if I am right
In the part before the solo Jon sings; "This house was built on trust Thats what it is and what it was No wrecking ball could knock it down This house was built on higher ground" |

Thanks a lot Jovifan93!
So, totally different from what I was expecting. I need to hear more, but it's a good song. And you can hear clearly the guitar on it. It's already an advance. The solo is good, but too generic. But it's a good single. |
hey guys, any chance of a PM with the link. Thanks :-)

Could anyone write down the lyrics , please?
Just understand a few words. Thanks |

These four walls have got a story to tell The door is off the hinges, there's no wish in the well Outside the sky is coal black, the streets are on fire The picture window is cracked and there's nowhere to run I know, I know This house is not for sale I set each stone and I hammered each nail This house is not for sale Where memories live and my dreams don't fail This house is not for sale Coming home I'm coming home This world is packing to the ground and I stake my claim Standing in the dirt where they'll dig my grave And I have built these walls, it's in my veins No time for looking back for hope is out the door This heart, this soul This house is not for sale I set each stone and I hammered each nail This house is not for sale Where memories live and my dreams don't fail This house is not for sale Coming home I'm coming home This house was built on trust That's what it is in all these words No wrecking ball can knock it down This house was built on higher ground I set each stone and I hammered each nail This house is not for sale Where memories live and my dreams don't fail This house is not for sale Coming home I'm coming home Coming home I'm coming home Coming home I'm coming home Coming home I'm coming home This house is not for sale |
Terribly sorry to jump on the PM bandwagon, but if anyone wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate it.:D

Its a perfect single for radio and its very catchy to the casual listener . Looking forward to the album now

The Band have got life in them still! ( not that I doubted that!)
I liking THINFS, could place it on a LH, HAND, TC. The Chorus is good, just wish Jon could sign a bit higher on song overall. But loving it especially with Jon's current voice, just imagine what this would have sounded like back when he's voice wasn't shot! That's not a dig, I think it would have sounded really great it does as now but can't helping thinking what if..... Roll on THINFS as an Album! :-) |
getting a 404 error with the link, anyone else?

Working link, full song. Oh, and I like it a lot. |
After 3 back to back listens -
Certainly a relative of HAND but that's a good thing. Vocally stronger than almost every track on WAN. I'm hoping the raspy delivery of the lines in the outro is a more prominant feature on other tracks on the album (and hopefully more prominant on the album mix of the title track), a welcome return for the rasp! My biggest problem with this song is the lyrics. As a song, melodically I really like it. But the lyrics are just so bad. I know we're not into the band for Jon's wordmanship but during the peak years, the lyrics were basic but much easier to forgive. Perhaps it's the subject matter he's writting about these days. I'm sure there are all sorts of meanings and analogies behind the lyrics, but singing about houses, nails, foundations...grates abit. Still, I like it, i'll probably have it on a steady rotation for the next few weeks and i'm very much looking forward to the album! |
So it's "Have A Nice Day" meets "Lost Highway" meets "We Weren't Born To Follow". Not too bad.
Familiar, halfway fresh... kinda what you can expect from them these days, so I'm positively surprised. And I'm not going to waste energy in complaining about stuff like lyrics, production, solo etc. It doesn't change the way this band works... and this song actually managed to put a smile on my face. I like it more than "Because We Can" and "Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning" combined upon first listen. |

Well instead of And I have built these walls, I hear I will build .... The guitar at the beginning and at the end of the solo remind me of HAND. Well I think they are not offering something new with this track. It's similar to other songs of them. |

Guitar intro and solo is a lot like HAND, but that's not a bad thing. Like the thumping drums, soaring backing vocals in parts. Jon even sounds better than he did on WAN to me as well.
However, the big issue for me is the subject matter. I can't connect with the house thing. If someone can help me interpret it in a different way I'd be very happy to hear it. I think I might be taking it too literally. I know it sounds stupid but having always rented, never bought or built my own home I can't empathize in what the songs about (if its about having your own home). I also looked at it in a sort of hometown pride way: "Outside the sky is coal black, the streets are on fire The picture window is cracked and there's nowhere to run I know, I know This house is not for sale" That says to me even though this neighbourhood is shit I'm still sticking here cos I love this town ;). But I don't really empathize with that either cos I moved 200 miles away from where I was born and I'm happy living elsewhere! Maybe its just one I'm not going to get a feel for! |

It has the Bon Jovi formula big time but that I'm Coming Home hook. Holy crap, that's good.

@Matrix, I guess its a reference to the record label. |

Of course there's as many interpretations as listeners, so I'm just telling you how I take it. It isn't about the house. It's more about something you've "built". Your family, career or simply your life. It's all part of you and defines who you are. There's no plan to throw it all away because of things you can't influence. Kind of the world is burning but you're still who you are and you don't want to change. Well, I hope I chose the right words to explain my thoughts about it. |
Just me who loves the slight rasp at the end to Jon's vocals during the outro?
Hoping that's a teaser of the vocals we will get on the rest of the album. |

I really dig the new track. The main riff is dangerously close to Have a Nice Day though, especially as it starts the song and is played solely after the chorus.
I like it very much. Don't get why people are bashing the production? I find the guitars being very highlighted and actually think they sounds pretty raw. Sent the link to a friend whose a working engineer. He likes Bon Jovi, thought not even close to my fandom. He said he was suprised that Jon sounded so good on this recording. Unlike the previous releases he doesn't sound as doctored as before. The bridge before the solo is a completely waste of time though, doesn't really add anything to the song. They could have banged out the solo right away to make the song flow better. Will be interesting to hear this live, sounds to me like it could be a potential live opener? |
The "house" is a metaphor for the band. Lyric wise, it is VERY similar to The Scorpions' We Built This House

yeah...
Catchy but if i heard it accidentally without knowing its the new leading single my guess would have been that its a Have a nice day b-side track. John Shanks; Please God let it be the last album with him.
