It's not DA, nor would I want another one anyway. That album is wayyyyy over rated on here. A few great ones but some real snoozers too.

It's got that solo feel, with the band's touch, and a modern sound. For a 53 year old Jon, I'm quite impressed. This totally exceeded my expectations.

When I first heard Sat Night, although I liked it, I thought 'here we go again' but the other tracks are definitely my kind of music. This album is on its way to being the best since the 90's...

I agree with some points. But friend, I can not stop loving Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning, yes, it's the same old shit , but it is irresistible to me.

Agree with you Rolo, SNGMSM is the kind of song I usually say "Why again?" but this time I really like it. There's different ways of doing a nice pop-rock song, this is the right one.

What disappoints me so far is that out of 10 songs, we already have 4 with zero imput by David. He's an amazing songwriter and I dig most of the band's songs he co-wrote.

Really hope that the is more involved on the songwriting process of the next album.

I think Jon said once he and David not be a good team. He had tried to make songs with David but failed to reach fruition. Between this and that Jon is not very proud of their first two albums ..... but David is now winner 4 Tony Awards :D Who knows.

Hate to disagree with Jon, but he co-wrote:
  • Love Lies
  • Breakout
  • Only Lonely
  • The Hardest Part Is The Night
  • (I Don't Wanna Fall) To The Fire
  • Borderline
  • In These Arms
  • Unbreakable

... and those are pretty good songs. Maybe even more if we check out the demos and the boxset.

Maybe sit with Child, Shanks or another new songwritter and add David to the formula. He might have some good ideas.

steel_horse75 08-07-2015 11:59 PM

I wasn't a fan of DA. Loved some tracks but got bored with most. Hated midnight in Chelsea and still do.

Where/when did Jon say that? Because in the thousands of interviews I've collected through the years, he's never said a negative thing about David and this is the first allegation anyone has ever made of him saying such a thing.

I do not remember, but I think even had a video of it. Jon highlighted the chemistry he had with Richie, and said of David that sometimes behaves like a child, and when they argued, David left the room. I think he made a reference to the song The End, who composed in the house of David.

TheseDays2005 08-08-2015 12:20 AM

Teardrop to the sea, if the last 'Nobody grieves' would have replaced the first two this song would've been even better.

There's absolutely no reason why a fininished version was not good enough for any previous (or future album)

- Jon, can we PLEASE not use the line "living my life" again?
- No, this is great.
- But here I wrote some lyrics that...
- I said no.
- And what about some keyboards?
- No, I'll add some background guitars for Bobby.
- **** it, I'm out of here.
- Stop behaving like a Child, Dave.

SN/SM is the best "pop" song the band has done since Misunderstood.

I don't know... Summertime it's pretty good but sadly it wasn't a single. Every time I play it in my car, people asks me the name of it and say they like it!

Maybe I should give Billy Falcon's solo record from the early 90s another listen. I remember it being super boring, but the guy has co-written a ton of great songs in the last couple of years.

It both inspires hope and aggravates me that the band probably COULD have released better albums, but just chose to go in the direction they did. I mean, most of these are unused old ideas/tracks.

Musically, I really like Beautiful World. (Awful lyrics, though.) Props for giving Misunderstood the respect it always deserved but somehow never got. Great track.

I highly recommend "When". "When Sunday comes" "Fall to Me" "When" and "Flying" are great tracks.

I own the record (bought it for a buck once), I guess I'll just have it playing when I get up tomorrow morning. Hopefully it won't put me back to sleep! :P

Has he ever done anything on his own after that? The guy co-wrote the two best tracks on Bounce, which were anchored by heavy riffs and shouty vocals. He pulls that style off very well; I'd like to hear in that vein from him.

Yeah, I debated between "street" and "scene" because it seemed to describe a (literal or metaphorical) "car crash" and I couldn't decide if it was a "chalk line" they draw on the street for a sobriety test or "chalk outlines" they do around bodies at an investigation "scene". Jon was of no help whatsoever because he clearly thinks the word is "schreen". :) I could go either way.

And after listening in the car today, I also think the person is counting "tips" rather than "chips", although either would work for that line, too.

Another interesting thing I noticed while traveling: I was listening to Crush (which I'm not as familiar with because it may be my least favorite studio album), and I was surprised to hear these references in Two Story Town (RS, JBJ, Mark Hudson, and Dean Grakal):

"Sick of dreaming dreams that never come true on a one way street ..."

"Seven days of Monday morning in this two story town..."

And in Save the World (JBJ), I heard
"They can say it's blind love but it's a fool who don't believe..."

When I got home and checked to see who was credited with the writing, I saw that the "new" one-way street and Monday morning references show up together in SNGMSM, which is credited to RSS, JBJ, and Shanks; while both STW and Blind Love credit JBJ as sole writer. I know there are some words/phrases that are used over and over in their songs but I don't recall the overuse of "one-way street", a month (or week) of "Monday mornings", or "blind love" being among those. It made me wonder if SNGMSM and Blind Love might both be Crush outtakes. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't put phrases they tend to use as a qualifier for what period it came from but I see where you're going with that. Skies shining a different kind of blue/a different kind of blue was scattered throughout These Days, D.A AND Crush.

I agree and if they were some of the more commonly used phrases or if they had been re-used on different albums, I don't think I would have paid any attention. It was just that these recent releases were the first time I remembered them using these particular phrases and then to realize that all 3 had been used on the same album made me wonder. (Of course, I didn't notice them on Crush either until today, so they may have shown up on other albums as well.)

Becky 08-08-2015 05:54 AM

I know Jon was talking about wanting to do a song with just piano and violins on DA. I'm not saying that song was definitely what became Blind Love, just that he had that notion since at least that time frame.

Oh, BTW... Matt tweeted that I'm Your Man is not a cover song. He said none of the songs are cover songs.

I agree! It sounds reasonable but I've been searching high and low for as much information as I could find (and a leaked version) and never stumbled across any credits.

Apparently whoever is updating Wikipedia is a Dry County stalker because as soon as the info is posted here, that site is updated just as fast.

Well, thanks for that!! Nothing really jumps out except for 'I'm your man' but I really shouldn't be judging songs based on the snippets. I'm really hoping 'Who would you die for' builds up towards something, sounds really weird for this band. I'm seeing this album as more of an experiment.....

Adam D 08-08-2015 09:47 AM

Listened to the snippets and I have decided that I'm taking this record as Jon's unofficial third solo album.

There's nothing inherently "Bon Jovi" sounding about any of these tracks outside of We Don't Run and Saturday/Sunday.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Just different.

Savvi 08-08-2015 09:47 AM

Oh, I like the sound of We All Fall Down, despite it sounding lyrically to something along the lines of Welcome to Wherever You Are. Could be vanilla but I liked the snippet.

Who Would You Die For sounds NOTHING like any Bon Jovi song I've ever heard. I don't even know what to make of it. I don't think I like it.

Fingerprints sounds a little spanish/italian. I like it, though I really need to hear more.

Life Is Beautiful, another upbeat one. I like the drum beat. Sounds like something out of a disney film like Tarzan haha.

I'm Your Man sounds a little more old school rock n roll, and Burning Bridges sounds like a classic pub/drinking song.

We All Fall Down
Shattered dreams, stand up and be proud
I'm telling you now, yeah

Climb Every Mountain,
How high doesn't matter,
Don't ever be afraid to fall,
Walk out on the wire,
Climb every ladder,
Keep you back against the wall...

Who Would You Die For?
For just one look I'd crawl across the floor,
Who would you die for?
Who would you die for?

You right me lipstick letters,
And miss me when I'm gone,
Wake up tangled in the sheets,
Still aching for my arms,
The way you move it's almost holy,
I hope you...

Fingerprints
Heartache is the only proof,

I gave you my fringerprints,
Now just like you they're gone,
A man invisible,
I'll be him from now on,

The last time that I saw them,
They were running through your hair,
You will walk between your...

Life Is Beautiful
...stay too long

You've got all the answers,
but the answers are all wrong

I can't save you from my sins,
Innocence my long lost friend
No ???, No ??? can wash away,
These hallow words my mouth...

I'm Your Man
No one asking questions,
No need for alibis
No need for wasting words,
I'm who I am
I'm your man (Ooo Ooo Ooo)

No job that I can't handle
There ain't much that I ain't done...

Burning Bridges
...friends in hell,

Someone shut the lights off, turn the page, the stories I could write
I've seen a million faces and I've lived a couple of lies,
Here's our history for all to see, the smiles and all the scars,
First the rising, then the falling, call this chapter shooting stars
Must sound good,...

Thanks for the link!

BMF 08-08-2015 10:19 AM

30 seconds are not enough (or maybe they are)
Blah! I hate them all :-|

BMF 08-08-2015 10:19 AM

But that could change tomorrow :p

Savvi 08-08-2015 10:33 AM

I still don't know what to make of Who Would You Die For. Not only does it not sound anything like a Jovi song, but it doesn't really match the other songs on the album (maybe Teardrop would be the closest). One thing I've noticed though is that in the sound wave, the song seems to get louder in the second half of the song.

Demonbred 08-08-2015 11:05 AM

The snippets are scaring me. I dont like the sound of any of em. They better not represent the new sound of 2016 album

steel_horse75 08-08-2015 11:12 AM

The more I hear of these songs the more I dislike them, can see why they were never used and JBJ isnt fussed about them.

Yes they are 30 second clips but they are all slow mid tempo songs and Im not into that kind of song/music.

Teardrop is amazing and We Dont Run is new so also ery good. The rest judged on 30 seconds sound quite dull.

I hope Im wrong and they all turn out like Teardrop if not its an album ill never listen too...a bit like DA!
