I think this is main reason why Jon isn't excited about this album.
They put here all kind off different type of music which they have done for years. I don't see they fit on any normal Bon Jovi album. Jon can be affraid what fans will be thinking about spanish style, placebo feeling or drinking song. But for me it's fantastic "special" album. I want that kind of different songs on albums like these. I would hate Blind Love on HAND or Crush like I hate many slow songs on Bounce but on CD like this I can accept that song. And it's strange but I wake up and I heard on my head chorus of that song ;O Snippets? I'm Your Man, Life Is Beautiful, WWDFor are best for me Fingerprints - I want hear it full. 1 listen was - WTF? Second - It's catchy and funny. I'm waiting for this CD even more now! |

I'm very happy with the previews honestly. I'm a little skeptical of We All Fall Down, and I don't really get Burning Bridges yet, but it's only 30 secs.
Who Would You Die For sounds amazing as far as I'm concerned, as does Fingerprints. But the standout has to be I'm You Man, it rocks! (based on the preview only of course) |

I remember reading in a book around 2005 that Jon had written a song for a Peter Pan movie that "was really great", but he pulled it from the film.
I'm starting to think that this might've been "Life Is Beautiful". |

What have I just heard???
I think Burning Bridges is a boxsetwithupdate-late90sJBJ-mix with an above average band album song from the recent past (SNGMSM) and near future (WDR). So far (with the exception of We All Fall Down) I like it a lot for what it is. The term "fan album" makes sense now. |
Wow, I will love this album. That's for sure. :D

Finally seeing what the fan album definition meant, it didn't mean that we'd be getting great tracks to reward years of being faithful fans but rather that you'd really need to be a blind fan to be wanting to buy or listen to those tracks hence jon's enthusiasm about it!

Bon Jovi "Fan Album": Burning Bridges- Out 21 Aug
This album will make the haters hate even more. You will have to be real fan to accept it

This is not a band album, man. This is just a quirk of Jon Bon Jovi. Anyway, waiting to hear everything in its entirety. My hopes for the new Richie album have risen , can not be worse than this. |
I'd consider real fan stuff the sessions from the vault but not those doctored new tracks without the inputs of the historic second most important member of the band, anyway after releasing something like wan and a tour like the last one the band (can we still say that?) has lost a lot of the credibility that they'd acquired through hard work and great music...

Well the reaction here sure changed sharpish despite the "can't judge a song on a 30 second clip" rule.
Yeah, quite a few slowies but for a group of bonus songs it is interesting and more importantly- different. I'm Your Man sounds like it could be a decent upbeat tune, not sure what the hell Burning Bridges will be. Jon turning into a Pogues tribute band on St Patricks Day. |

The snippets don't sound like Bon Jovi thats my problem. I'm a Bon Jovi fan not a Jon Bon Jovi fan hardly ever listened to Destination Anywhere and have never bought a Richie solo album.

100% with you on that. Although I do own Richie albums but never listen to them bar a few tracks on stranger. |

Difficult to judge on 30 second snippets, but first listen feels like JBJ ouput, not Bon Jovi.
Was hoping for some rock songs but sounds like the remaining album will be heavily acoustic. I don't think anyone should judge this album too much, nothing on here was intended for release and its simply a contractual album. If there are a couple of good tracks then great, if bar WDR and Teardrop its pure rubbish, so be it. Its just nice to get new material to tied us over until the proper album next year. Its more than anyone thought we'd get in 2015 so its a nice surprise. |
I'll take the optimist in me. After my great disappointment to discover that this is a pop album as crush, I'll try to take the positive side of this.
1 A Teardrop to the Sea - I love this track. 2 We Don’t Run - Good but missing guitars 3 Saturday Night Gave Me Sunday Morning - Classic Jovi post2000. Its ok, i like it. 4 We All Fall Down - I do not like, sounds very cheesy, these songs are those who hate. 5 Blind Love - Boring. 6 Who Would You Die For - Waiting to hear whole. 7 Fingerprints - Waiting to hear whole. 8 Life Is Beautiful - Crap. 9 Im Your Man - Sound like a Mick Jagger song, its ok. 10 Burning Bridges - It has a southern touch, I like that, it can be fun and cool. 11 Take Back The Night - ....? |

It cost money to be these releases together. It's not as simple as just opening the vault and picking songs. Even the box set needed to be completed. Songs need to be a certain standard of quality and musicians don't come cheap. These are not Jon's decisions, the record company has the control. |

What is your obsession with Beautiful Day being on a Bon Jovi album? Jon didn't write it. The day it shows up on a regular Bon Jovi album is the day I drive to Tennessee, find the nearest gas station, and buy a lottery ticket because that's the day I'm going to win the power ball. |

Who Would You Die For reminds me of a song but I can't figure out which one! It's a new one, wasn't released before 2010 for sure I think.
Not a fan of the snippets but it'd be stupid to judge a song for only 30 seconds. Quote:

Here's my opinion on these songs and where they come from.
After TC, Jon did mention that he might possibly be doing another solo album. He also mentioned that it would be an acoustic style type album. I think that's what this is and where most of these songs are from, especially the second half of the album. I think Jon planned on doing a simple acoustic style album with songs like "Blind Love" in his home studio. That's when he was doing 'The Stand Up Guy' tracks of which some of these songs could be part of that session too. Jon might have had a bunch of songs in different stages and then scrapped the idea for WAN. With the exception of We Don't Run, SNGMSM, maybe Teardrop, and a few others, most of this album is what was supposed to be Jon's third solo album between TC and WAN. I also made a comment that some of these songs sound like they were written for movies and I wouldn't be surprised if Jon did get his hands on another script in between that time too. It's just a combination of a few things that Jon was working on that was never completed. That's why Jon doesn't know what to call these songs. They aren't old enough or weren't completed enough to be considered "vault" tracks. |

My thoughts:
We All Fall Down - The melody is nice, the lyrics make me want to drive nails into my skull. The conspiracy guy in me notices how close the melody is to What About Now, and both have "Stand up and be proud". Who Would You Die For - Ahhhh. What the hell. This is....left field quirky. Fingerprints - Really interesting to hear how it's almost 6 minutes. Love the time signature. Life is Beautiful - This one seems the blandest of the new samples. Is that Dave singing with Jon again? I'm Your Man - Mid tempo fun. That chorus will get stuck in my head. Definitely hear some Teles in there, sounds like Crush-era mixed with current radio. Burning Bridges - THIS is the kind of stuff I was waiting for. I'm absolutely loving this one, the tip of the hat to Wanted Dead or Alive was a nice touch. I don't know, I'm baffled. This sounds like such an un-band album. Or a mix of Jon solo and band. It's a completely new sound if it's a band album that preludes the next one. The lyrics aren't even as bad as past releases which leads me to think it really was Jon's proposed solo album with tracks like Amen and The Fighter replaced with some newer songs. Zero uptempo rockers until a new song got added. Out of left field songs, different styles, the return of love songs. We were begging for something different and a serious change and this is it. It just wasn't the change a lot of people were expecting. Flop or fail, this is in This Left Feels Right territory, it's going to divide a LOT of fans, and a I don't know how much the label pushed Jon into this but I'm glad they did. |
