If jon wants to write a song about a record label/industry he need look no further than chainsaw Charlie by WASP.

I'm thinking Burning Bridges is about the label. Hence the part where it says like maybe you can sing or even strum along. Even Richie can do that, the bigwigs at the label probably can't. They order bands to write these songs and do this and that, but yet they probably can't sing or play guitar.
My dos centavos on that. |

Would explain why Jon isn't thrilled with the album and isn't excited about it. That theory makes me like this song even more. I love the lyrics. |

I doubt they were dropped. Whats probably happened is the contract has expired and the label has chosen to not renew it. The days of BJ selling 10m copies per album has long gone.
Bon Jovi dont make them money anymore i remember reading around the time of Hand I think it was that they didnt expect to be with their label for much longer due to how the industry was changing (and that was 2005!) and they would go down the Indie route |

But... sorry I can't decipher "I'm Your Man" unless you provide a link to the song because I have none. Quote:

Just listened to the previews, really liked Life Is Beautiful, We All Fall Down, and Burning Bridges. I was surprised about the last one as I hated the 30 seconds snippet and with 1:30 sounds way better. Considering the lyrics, I think too that it's for the label. We'll have to see under which one the next album is released.

I just made an edit of Burning Bridges. I looped a few verses and repeated the chorus. Nothing crazy because we'll have the album by next week or maybe even sooner but just something to enjoy! It's now 3:15
How do I share this? |

I haven't checked them against the others word for word but I think they're close. Burning Bridges (From the previous sample and this new one): … friends in hell (I assume is the end of the chorus…) Someone shut the lights off, turn the page. The stories I could write. I’ve seen a million faces and I’ve lived a couple lives Here’s our history for all to see The smiles and all the scars First the rising and the falling Call this chapter "Shooting Stars". (Must sound good from where you are!) Sayonara, adios, auf wiedersehen, farewell, Adieu, goodnight, guten abend Here’s one last one you can sell. Let’s call it “Burning Bridges” It’s a singalong as well Ciao, adieu, goodnight, guten abend Play it for your friends in hell. Ah, check the box, yeah, mark this day. There’s nothing more to say. After 30 years of loyalty, they let you dig a grave. Now, maybe you could learn to sing or even strum along I’ll give you half the publishing You’re why I wrote this song (Everybody, sing along!) Sayonara, adios, auf wiedersehen, farewell, Adieu, goodnight, guten abend Here’s one last one you can sell. Let’s call it “Burning Bridges” It’s a singalong as well Hope my money and my (mad… or mat…) I really like Burning Bridges. That right there should tell anyone who's paying attention that I don't think it's a dig at He Who Shall Remain Nameless. :) While both the 30 years and half the publishing could obviously be directed at either Richie or the label, the tongue-in-cheek FU vibe reminds me a lot of The More Things Change which was clearly a snipe at the industry, if not specifically the label. And someone asked if the sing and strum along is a dig at Richie and all I can say if it is, it's a really bad one because even on his worst day Richie out-"strums" Jon and, as far as I'm concerned, he can out-sing him any day of the week as well. (Repeat, in case someone missed it, that's MY very subjective and highly biased opinion!) Also, IIRC, Richie didn't have anything to do with this one so he wouldn't get any of the publishing nor would it be "one more [he] could sell." So my vote goes to the record label as the target for BB. |

Burning Bridges is awesome! :D:D:D
At first I thought it's against Richie as well. But a dig at the record company makes more sense. - Jon's quote, that this album is only to fullfill commitments - his quote that it ends a cycle - his very limited enthusiasm about this album - the whole metaphor of "Burning Bridges" - the line from We Don't Run "I ain't afraid of burning bridges [...] like a Phoenix from the ashes", - and the line in this songs about one more song to sell It's just shouting out that he's sick of the record label. But what makes me wonder...why the hell would a record company agree to put such a song on the album? |
Am I the only one that hears Tico's backing vocals on Burning Bridges? Or am I on drugs or something?
Can't stop listening to the snippet! |

A serious question: if all this speculation (about album title being a dig at the label) is true, what do you think is the reason that's Jon unhappy with it?
He always brags how he's been there his whole career and I always felt for someone like him it always makes sense to stay under that big umbrella, where they throw him a bunch of cash to record an album and then some more to do a bit of promoting (enough to land the no. 1 Billboard sales), but no real expectations for hit singles (I would assume at least). I personally never saw Jon as some hipster experimental artist who would be willing to fund the recording with his own money to make an independent album that would be more 'artistic' than one under a major label. |
It comes down to sales. They land at number 1 but drop to 89 by the second week...
They probably didn't renew his contract and said, 'oh bty you owe us one more' I think it's comical that they approved the song Burning Bridges. Jon's a pain in the ass too. He doesn't want to do Greatest Hits and does shitty albums like WAN instead... This might be the kick in the ass that Jon needs. Apparently it's working. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

I'm glad jbj don't want to do Greatest Hits. I don't see the point of GH unless you've split up.

I like the lyrics of BB but not the way it's delivered

I am completely in love with the extended sample of Burning Bridges. And reading the lyrics makes perfect sense into the why of Jon's attitude towards this release. It also pretty much makes it the ballsiest thing Jon has done in a while lol....

Just read that it's on Australia iTunes. You have to search it rather than go on the album.

What other site? I used the link provided by Savvi.
